Old Broken Equipment for the Other Residents and Children,

First is the lack of sand to provide a cushion for children going down the slide.
Second. For safety reasons the swings are attached with chains to the pipe below. These are heavy and could easily hurt a child if aimed at them.
Third is the broken picnic bench with a missing side.
Fourth is the porta potty which i also consider a safety issue for small unsupervised children who might be in the park.

Peru used to be known for its parks! Now we are the laughing stock of the community because of them. When was the last time Black or Harl were even in a park? Poor leadership leads to lazy uncaring workers.

I hope our new mayor gets our priorities straight when elected!

Well, Lois who would leave their small children alone to play in the porta potti and for the other problems did you call or tell any one with the city about the problems as you see them or did you just put them on here to try to grand stand like you and Stunning Steve have done in the past. you probably won't put this post in anyway because you do not post anything that may shine light on what you and steve are really about,

Just like the city spend our money where they want . Pretty soon their will be court cases around here !

Locating the port a potty next to the children's playground equipment is horrendous. In placing it in a safer location remember that the pickle ball courts are next to homes. I am positive that these family's would not want the unpleasant odors nor the appearance of a port a potty permanently in their back yard. I nor you would want to be confronted with this situation.
My goodness! could the location of the pickle ball courts be deeper than Mr, Grab's desires. Is this location the Mayors method of getting even with a couple of women who have disagreed with him in the past? I hope not!
If and when play starts at these courts there will be complaint after complaint since the game and the crowd will be noisy and irritating to the neighborhood.

Anon 3:06 you mentioned women who disagreed with the Mayor and how he is getting back at them. I guess he forgot who got him in office! Its the same ones.

3:37 Thank you.

Why, with the backing Mayor Harl entered the office with would he turn his back on his original supporters? It appears his only goal was to get elected. Upon being elected he seems to be intent upon doing things his way whether it is what others involved want or not. Sadly he has become focused on being a politician rather than a steward of Peru.
Judging from decisions he has made in his three years of office there is doubt whether he will even attempt to run for Mayor again.

2:10 You can rest assured that many complaints have been registered with our city officials regarding this park and others and they usually fall on deaf ears. The excuse usually is we don't have enough city workers but it seems as though we had plenty when Mr. Grabowski needed them to prepare his special court.

Does anyone remember the scene in "Field of Dreams" when the little boy stares at Shoeless Joe Jackson and says "Say It Ain't True Joe"?

Or when Mean Joe Green is walking the corridor and the young man says "Mean Joe" and hands him his bottle of Coca Cola and Mean Joe takes a couple of steps and says Hey Kid and gives him a big smile and throws the kid his jersey.

In Peru, Illinois things are done a little differently. In Peru the little girl and boy are walking off the tennis court and the Ambassador is directing the work crew to where he wants the pot a potty located. The children look back and a tear starts to run down their cheeks as they see the Ambassador throwing pickles all over the tennis court. The girl and boy yell back to the court We'll see you in three years.

We as adults can only see that the rumor that this park is not renamed Grabowski Park as supposed to be done in the future, or that in three years it is the sister to Nickeloid Park. Speaking of Niceloid Park whatever happened to the $4,000 given to the city as a donation to update that park?

@2:10, Your exactly right about having a lack of workers in some departments. Its just not in the street department.

But that's the department 6:54 that we are always told is short of workers.

I'm going to take your comment a step further. Many in the city always complain about the fact that our children don't return to live in Peru, at least most of them.
Our swimming pool has been closed and that left few summer activities for the teen and preteen kid in town especially if you were either not interested or talented enough to take part in baseball.
Tennis you learned as a child could be played all through your adult life, I know because several of my children still play as adults.
The location of the 28th street park is where many of the young families live and stands to reason that many have children of that age group looking for summer activities and not only that it is a sport that parents and children can play together close to their home. Well at least they used to be able to. This used to be a neighborhood park but now that that has changed.
With all the activity by the city in preparing for this event, they didn't even bother to remove the barrier around the basketball courts to indicate to the kids that it could be used again.

I feel bad for the young people who have been displaced by the whims of adults.

Lois, do you know if the city is reimbursed by the rec commission for the hours the city employees worked on the pickle ball court?

Life itself is a teacher of tradeoffs and ability to make smart decisions. Often times we have to decide what we want the most of many options. If a brand new pickle ball court was built in Grabowski Park and the tennis courts were not disturbed I am sure there would have been no objections. Where could the money have come from to build a new pickle ball court?
Someone with vision, financial savvy, and intellect enough to realize that the government does not support private one night concerts. Therefore they option out by saying NO to such a idea and presently they would have $19,000 plus more that they would have not spent, preparing the airport for a concert. This isn't even a tough decision.

Well said anon 11:13. We need more thinkers like you on our council. People who will listen to the people not to individuals.

According to the news tribune article Mr. Grabowski is quoted as saying he will have 50 plus morning leagues and ladies and men's leagues. WHEN DO THE KID'S GET TO USE THEIR PARK?

Anonymous said...

If any of the above comments are true, it should bring shame to our mayor and his council for allowing this to happen. I voted for our current mayor because he promised to do what was "right" and not buy votes. I guess I was wrong. Won't happen again.

You might add some of the aldermen into that group that we ae disappointed in.

Latest report from Grabowski Park is that the wording on the new blue buildings is "AMBASSADORS THRONE".

Anonymous said...

Would the village of Dalzell be interested in a seven member Park and Recreation Board, $3,000 of pickle ball equipment with a pickle ball ambassador and blue port a pot titled "Ambassadors Throne".

What really bothers me about this whole pickle ball issue is the fact that the first ward aldermen should have put their foot down and said absolutely no to this change in courts. If only for the fact that that court is so close to the homes up there. I do not believe any of us would like that in our backyard and certainly the ambassador would not like it in his. If the courts had stayed tennis even if four players are playing there is only one ball. With four courts now, there is the possibility of 16 players and four balls bouncing at once. Yikes! No the ambassador certainly would not have put up with that in his back yard. Too bad he did not consider the the families that live up there.

I understand that the grass was cut at the 28th street park this morning although it was not needed. Yes I did walk through last evening.

Bench is still not replaced, equipment still not fixed, but the grass (that did not need cutting), is cut. Go figure!
