Interesting. I guess taxpayers want to know what the fire department did with monies. Credit card being mis-used. Makes me wonder about Peru's FD (liberty fire company) fundraiser as to where that money really goes. Does
anybody know????

Could Liberty Fire Co., aka: Peru Fire Department show all the bills and receipts for that department. Don't they have a fundraiser with a mailer requesting monetary donations? Don't they have steak picnics? Several picnics a year? Do they use money for that?? How about alcohol??? Who pays for that if it's available at their picnics? I did see on the news last night and it popped into my mind about
what has been blogged several times. Who is in charge of fundraisers money? And is spending of it published for us taxpayers to see?

I'm not being negative about the PFD. But, at the 4th of July fireworks (The fire trucks, at Maze Lumber), fireman have a cookout. Who pays for food? This picnic I've seen not just fireman and their immediate family, but friends of friends, grandparents, grandchildren, girlfriends children and their grandchildren. Why does our taxpayingonies go to feed all these people?? If any monies is allotted for this event shouldn't it be for immediate family only?? Maybe the whole city of Peru's residents should be able to attend a free picnic. Personally, no monies should be spent from taxpayers. BYOM- Bring your own meat!

Really? Should I take my steak, brats, hotdogs or can I just show up and eat? I'm actually related to a fireman so under the above mentioned guidelines for the attendees at cookout, I qualify. Is there free donated food from area
Businesses this weekend at the FD?

On news last night, they seized a refrigerator too. I couldn't believe it. Gardner, Illinois isn't too far from the Illinois valley. I guess Gardner caught on to where money went and not being accounted for. Charges and debits isn't like an itemized receipt that shows actual purchases. Good for intelligent people in Gardner Illinois.

I was told the Peru township also has a Christmas party every year. They all eat on the tax payer's dime.

At the safety committee meeting last week it was announced Liberty donated $30,000.00 towards an upgrade to something but I don't recall what. Just the figure $30,000.00 because I thought WOW where did that come from! Maybe Rodney has further details since he is on the committee?

Alot of you people don`t understand that most fire departments have a not for profit fundraisng arm of their department to raise money seperate from the tax dollars. why do they do that? what if you decided to donate a large sum of money to your local fire department for the purchase of a fire truck. Instead the Mayor and city council take that money after you donate it and buy a street sweeper instead or pave a road in front of another persons house. Thats whats happened over the years. The polititions steal the money just like they have done with the pensions in Illinois. The volunteer fireman work hard to raise the money and the polititions swoop in and take the money. The departments start that not for profit fundraising arm to keep the money from the elected officials.

LaSalle has the same thing. They send out the dance mailings every year and host the wine tasting with Peru. I've even saw them at Celebrate LaSalle selling burgers. I'm pretty sure it was the donation money that bought and outfitted their three ambulances.

Done donating to PFD. Never again! For cookouts for all those people.

WOW! Complaining about a FD cookout. It would be more appropriate to complain about the heat. Many do not realize that family members of firemen are involved in many ways when the firemen have to respond to fires and emergencies. Now some want to begrudge them a hot dog or brat once or twice a year. Be careful who you diss, you may need to call the FD when you have an emergency.

That is and always will be the dumbest argument ever! If I call 911 for an emergency and they don't respond because we care about how our tax dollars and donations are spend, that's illegal! They will come. Get a brain

So the 501 annual report for Liberty fundraising would show atleast $30,000 raised? If it is being donated is must show somewhere it was raised correct?

Its really sad that you slam the men on the PFD. They are the ones that risk their lives for the citizens of Peru. I understand that these men want to do that. Just like a teacher wants to help children learn. The problem that I have is that, I don't beleive the line is rapping around the block to pick up an app to be a fireman. I'm sure that most people on this blog wouldn't be standing in that line! @ 1:55 pm, You are ignorant! Your are no better then anybody else in this town. I have no problem with the money that I donate to Liberty Fire Co. going for 1 cookout that they have on the day of America's Independance. They are the ones that fight to keep America safe. You don't!! Their families deserve to be there also. But whos to say that the food they cookout is taken out of our money? Maybe its donated. The PFD does one hell of a good job at protecting this city and the people who live in it! I know I'm not the only one who feels that way. Maybe our local grocery stores do too. Never the less, lets not forget that the firemen on the PFD also live in Peru. With their families. That would make them taxpayers too!!!!!
