Fourth of July Week in Peru.

Fireworks Display on Water Street at dusk. Come early to enjoy music, food and drinks. Rain Date for fireworks is July 4

July 3 is an ordinary work day for most people. Does anyone know what the schedule on Water Street is for the day as it was on the calendar as I posted above.

No pickleball this weekend, it looks like as the Ambassador is involved with the tennis tournaments at Washington Park or so I hear.

What do you think about the new "NIFTY FIFTY" citizens of Peru?
How do you think it will help promote our city? I personally can't see it!

Yea and guess who was running the tournament H. Tom - the person who said tennis was a dying sport and her husband the ambassador.

I honestly cannot believe she would make a statement like that, and then be in charge of the tennis tournament at Washington Park. But then some people want it all, and are able to get it. How do they do that? Some one please tell me their secret.

I don't care many signs they put up, the section of Shooting Park road to LaSalle that has been repaved is outstanding. Good job.

5:07 I agree the road is finally as nice as La Salle's section but you should care about how many signs there are. They were paid for with your tax dollar. Who else do you think would repave Peru's road besides Peru? Do you need to be told that we take care of our own roads? Those signs are tax dollars being wasted.

Does anyone know if we can still park our trucks down there night before? The CSO is not providing much information as in years past?

Day 2 of the tennis tournaments at Washington Park with not only the courts full but also many many watchers in chairs about the courts. I heard ot was was a full day at the tennis courts yesterday also.

There was nothing at the 28th St. Park yesterday, people have said, it was empty all day. Not one pickleball player. In fact the only time the pickleball players come to the park are when the ambassador is present at his private court donated by the city of Peru.

Last year the tennis tournament was combined with the Fun Fair and it worked out really well and then the fireworks in the evening. This year it did not seem to be coordinated with anything else and instead of one great Fun Fair Day the events are going to be widely scattered.

Lets see, we have already had fireworks at the LaSalle Speedway (last night), and doesn't Oglesby have theirs this evening?

No one here in Peru that I have contacted seems to know anything about the Peru fireworks except they are scheduled for July 3 at dusk and the CSO will be there with a beer tent.

Lois the only way we can get better answers is if we vote in better people, plain and simple. Remember that when the ballots come out

For the last few years myself and my girlfriends have waited for that magic year when we could be old enough to attend fireworks in Peru and have a couple of alcoholic drinks. Finally the year has arrived and because of fully grown immature adults which are called politicians we are going to leave Waterstreet as soon as the fireworks are over and go up the hill and have a couple of drinks. We would not cause or have ever been in trouble but because of all the unforseen demands of the law and this boundry and that boudary it will be easier to move on, have a good time and keep everything simple. After all why stay if it is not going to be fun?

Regarding the signs for the road work being done in Peru..IF they had to spend money on signs, they should have thanked the shoppers from Peru and surrounding communities for the supporting the businesses. Just my thought on this matter, as I was making my way up to Target, Home Depot, Hobby Lobby, MC, Goodwill, and the Dollar Store. Oh well, maybe next year when they have to change the signs.

Lois, are the ambassador and his wife really running the tennis tournament at Washington Park? I hope you are just trying to be funny about this whole situation! Could you please find out for sure and let us know?

12:10 PM

From the N.T. 5/17/12
Janice Grabowski, recreation commissioner and president of Illinois Valley Tennis Boosters, said she had no objection to altering one of the city’s tennis courts.

Judging from that comment, I believe she was involved in the tennis tournaments, perhaps not playing herself but being involved otherwise in the tournament and promotion of at Washington Park yesterday and again today.

I saw Janice Grabowski at the park under a canopy. It looked like she was helping with the tournament, not playing.

Lois 4:48 Thank you for that information, and all that you do to keep the VOTERS informed. Keep up the good work!

It does not matter whether she was playing or not, what matters is that she must feel that this tennis tournament should be held at Washington Park. What I do not understand is why she would want to eliminate a frequently used court at 28th St.

Anonymous said...

So now it sounds as though they control not only 28th street tennis court but also Washington Parks?

Anon 8PM The closest distance between two points is a straight line. Location, Location, Location. That's why a frequently used court at 28th street was converted from a tennis court to a pickle ball court. Just proves there is no I in TEAM but there is a ME.

What were the delivery charges this time for the Nifty Fifty? The delivery charges for the signs for the road construction was $150.00. $150.00 for in town delivery for 24 signs.

The information given was that Apple Press obtained the 24 sign bid or was this a bid job. No matter Apple Press is a Peru business and a $150.00 delivery charge is immoral.

I can't wait to re-elect these people!
