This blog is maintained for the sole purpose of allowing the people of Peru and those interested in the cities of the Illinois Valley to express their views.
“It doesn’t take a majority to win, just a tireless minority that will keep starting brush fires in the mind and hearts of their fellow men.” Samuel Adams
Second is the new porta potty near the playground which is quite a few feet from the court. Will the police be securing this each night like the parks and who is paying the cost of the porta potty?
This is where the city workers spent time installing the pickle ball nets.
So what now we lock the courts? Money well spent Peru leaders! You are all a joke and making our town a embarrassment . I'm glad elections are 10 months away!
Why not show a picture of the opposite gate which was open. The whole point of this blog find something to complain about. If you don't like the way things are going then get up off your computer and volunteer or run for office.
Yes the opposite gate was open but then 2 people were inside the court and I did not assume they would lock themselves in while playing the game. That would be stupid. I did not stay to watch them and see if they locked the gate when done. By then I was in another section of the park. By the way Jim saw me and could have explained about the temporary nature of the closure.
Just for your information, I volunteer every day and I also have a job.
Lois, to add insult to injury the tennis court net was rolled up and placed next to the fence outside the locked gate Thursday afternoon. There will be no use of it in the 28th street park because the pickle ball nets are anchored to the concrete. Initial thought was that the pickle ball nets were to be put to the side if someone wanted to play tennis. There is the possibility that a innovative group of tennis players could devise a method of using the pickle ball nets for a practice area for tennis. WLPO has been notifying its listeners to E-Mail the cities Jim Grabowski for the use of pickle ball equipment. Is Mr. Grabowski been hired as a employee of Peru and is he going to be compensated for his participation? With circumstances as they are it appears that the city officials should be having a audit of all funds including the $75,000 which is given to the Park and Recreation Board on a ongoing basis. When the money of all is taken to satsify the wishes of a few steps should be taken and one of many of these ateps is micro scrutiny of finances.
There is so much wrong at that park that I neglected to get a picture of the tennis net which was tossed aside kind of like trash. I should have done that.
I agree with you about investigating the funding of the rec com. and in fact I am just getting ready to do a FOIA on that. Wonder if the city clerk has that information available or is that also stored in the secretaries home along with the fireworks information
It does now appear that the video that was prepared as a promo was all wrong as they used a portable net and I see we have permanently anchored the the pickleball nets to the concrete. These individuals are very confident of the availability of funds as well they should be as they have such close connections to the source of the money. They are also evidently tied into the elected officials who could have mediated a solution but instead just sat in their comfy chairs and watched this all play out.
With crackpotts like you guys running around up there i would have locked the gates too, the way you guys complain they are most likely worried about someone vandalizing the place
1:00pm Yes the courts had been painted, but the fact is the ambassador was playing on them in the morning and then locked the gates. Why is he able to to use them? Explanation please?
Brian Hartman stated in today's News Trib "Regardless, we'd like to see it back to a tennis court. Why would you make a statement like that when so much time, effort and money has been put into this sport. The ambassador's video clearly shows this game can be played anywhere, but HE wanted it in a much used tennis court. Go figure!
2:17 For your information 28th street park was supposedly chosen because of the lack of vandalism. The tennis court has been there for a long time and has never been vandalized.
The people who border on the court were there before the park was even built and now they have to deal with arrogant and uncaring people who believe their wants are more important than their neighbors. I do believe the bordering residents have legal rights that have not yet been brought to light. I hope the electeds are aware of this but then again they seem to make decisions and then back track again and again and again and don't seem to learn from their experiences.
Not true, your just had a picnic bench in the park broken intentionally and I think that is called vandalism. I hate to tell you that you have as many car breakins and other forms of vandalism in that area as anywhere else in town. Perhaps even more because vandals think you have better items in that area than in other place.

I WALKED TO 28TH STREET PARK YESTERDAY, AND BOTH OF THE DOORS TO THE COURT WERE INDEED LOCKED.
Of course they are locked, they are the ambassadors. The city gave the courts to him, to do with what he wants. Sad day in Peru.
Yes yesterday the courts were locked because the courts had been painted.

I have never heard of a tennis court being vandalized anywhere in the Illinois Valley.
so how do I get use of the equipment to play if I want to bring my kids their to try it out?
Can someone please explain why the west gate at 28th street pickleball court remains locked? I think this might be a safety issue.
The tennis net was put back up but not for tennis, it was to keep the pickle ball from rolling into the adjacent court.
