I am so deflated about the goings on of Peru City government. And, as an aside it is not limited to City's only, ie.....county, state and fed too. But, because I live in Peru it is more of a "hurt" that our neighbors, who run the city, cannot think above their own pockets. How can these extreme payouts, lack of vision or insight and just plain "don't care" attitude continue on? They were elected based upon their willingness to represent our wants and needs. That does not say that they were to make the decision "for us," but based upon the residence wants and needs. To me it seems as if our politicians are thumbing their noses as us and I have seen more than 1 laugh at statements made at committee meetings and city council meetings. It is so sad and definitely deflating. I can only vote and I hope you will too in the coming election - and not for those incumbents.

Anon 9:51. What part of this agreement did you not like? After all the closest neighbor to the concert is the cemetery. I don't think its the same arguement as Dalzell. I do think that some of the old conservative group demanded that the City get a bigger cut of the event. That wasn't right to do this after the Mayor had a agreement in place. Those old school guards need to move back to Germany. We want the concert.

Anon 9:51 AM Your comment is very well stated and I am in 110% agreement with you as are many others who I believe will be more vocal as time gets closer to elections.
Lois, who is the local politician who expressed that this blog has no power in politics. Would you please state what was exactly said and who said it?

The wording that says the $1 goes to the city is in the ordinance. This is what the FAA said would make the concert not happen. The city cannot profit off the airport. When the feds read that the concert will not happen. Slight typo will end it all!

Why does Peru's Mayor constantly stay in the gray matter, always leaning toward the edge doesn't he understand what the majority of the towns citizens prefer?
Peru has been exposed to one constant dog sled pull for the last three years instead of what the majority voted for and deserved to get. Now that three of the four years of this administration are over, in looking back to get televised council meetings would be a waste of time also as very few would watch them a second time. SAD!

Cast the promoter in a bad light? I think she managed that whole process on her own. Exactly how much money has been given to charities in the last 7 years? And just how many places has she held or tried to hold events that don't want her back? Possible a bad habit of not paying her bills and cleanup costs? And just how many people did not get refunds but found out later that she possibly had rain out insurance? and just how many entertainers wrote her a check for a donation because she didn't make enough money on the largest country singer in history? I, for one, will not patronize her or her supporters for dragging the taxpayer into her messes. Who were her sponsors again?

Does she have to give to charities? No. But she does. Sounds like some sour grapes from somebody looking for a handout. She takes a risk and earns a profit. The community has some entertainment and brings in some interest. We have too many critics that complain about anybody making money. Anon 4:00, why don't you bring in your favorite band and give a portion of the proceeds to charity? You won't! And if its the Doobie Brothers, they won't sell.

@4:21 So who should Peru bill then? LaSalle? The school? Donate that much cash to a business? Why should the city incur the costs when the residents receive nothing from it? Give the community free tickets then since you expect us to foot the bill!

Maybe noonan should buy some land, build an outdoor amphitheater (like in Tinley Park) and have as many concerts as her heart desires. Then she can reap ALL the profits and she wouldn't be bilking any taxpayers for her personal gain. Wait a minute, tax write-off for non-profit cause wouldn't work for the tax man then. I will say noonan played her cards right. She got a couple hands of blackjack for a few years on the taxpayers of Peru.

WELL ME FOR ONE DON'T CARE OR GIVE A ---- ABOUT HER CONCERTS . I JUST DON'T THINK PERU SHOULD GIVE HER ANYTHING AND ALL MONEY SHOULD GO TO THE CAUSE . MAYBE HER BATH HOUSE WILL GET SIDING NOW AND WON'T BE AN EYE SORE .I MEET HER ONCE AND DON'T CARE FOR HER . SHE NEVER DID PAY FOR REPAIRS AT CEDAR POINT SPORTSMAN CLUB . NO WONDER THEY DON'T WANT HER BACK . GOOD LUCK PERU .

I'm not looking for a handout - I hand over plenty already to the city so they can continue to p*ss it away on private business ventures that slap a private religious school charity name on an event in hopes of selling more booze to create profits directly to her pockets. Hmmm.... Everyone has the right to make money on their own - NOT AT THE TAXPAYERS EXPENSE though. I don't want to support her projects. Period! I've seen her so called big contributions. I'm actually disappointed at how small the donation was. Actually thought a few went in the hole pretty bad didn't they. Why do it again? Must be money in it somewhere now huh??? We have so many wonderful charities in the area that make quite a bit more money WITHOUT the use of taxpayer funds. Don't flatter yourself.

9:58 There is money in the concert venue. If you go to work in the morning you may do it for money. Thats really the reason anybody does anything, to earn a living. According to last night's paper, the concert person Mary Noonon will have to pay for the cost of the concerts. She does sell booze and food. So do many others. What do you sell? The point is that some are disgruntled because they don't embrace hard work and creative productivity. Maybe you should take some advice from LaGrotto Mary and maybe you will have that pool house you seem to envy.

A concert of this magnitude may cost between $200,000-$300,000, its quite a gamble. Good Luck to Merry!9:58 maybe you would donate a portion of your six-pack purchases to a local school.

Just wondering if one of you anonymous people care to share with me what the taxpayers are exactly paying for? Seems to me that Ms. Noonan is doing nothing but bringing LOTS of tax dollars into town.

Anonymous said...

I believe the taxpayers have paid close to $20,000 up front already. I about shite myself when I saw $2500 for Chamblin. What the hell was that for? To scratch his head and say, "i guess 30 acres would be good for parking?" Why isn't the private business owner paying those costs up front if this is her project? What happens when she can pay us back, or pay her bills, like she did at the other place?

Loss of farm crops.
Seeding the plot.
Cutting and mataining the ground.
With the dry weather, a lot of water.
Cost of the workers who have to water, cut.
after concert, look to all the ruts and disturbed ground.
probably will have to be leveld...
Is that enough or did I forget anything??????

First of all, please get your facts straight about what happened at the sport man's club before you go making accusations. Next, you still have not said where this $20,000 is being spent. Also, you still have not addressed all of the money that is being brought into the city this weekend. Every hotel in town is booked, restaurants will be packed to the gills, gas stations, grocery stores....the list goes on and on the tax money going to the city goes up and up.

Also, with the city getting $1 per ticket, I am sure that is paying for the farm and seeding.

I believe the list of expenses paid by the city is in the minutes. why cant she pay her own expenses. why cant she rent the land. why cant she hire her own engineer. Why cant she buy her own seed and pay for her own lawncare. why cant she hire her own security vs our police members. Isnt that what real businessws do? pay their own bills? what if this event is a flop. does the city get paid back. she already said she estimated sales too high. i sure hope s
he is reportng all those cash and liquor sales accurately to the state. dont want to miss out on those sales tax revenues now do we. i made another funny.

I believe Ms. Noonan is paying her expenses by giving the city $1 per ticket. Did she or did the city hire the engineer and what was that even for? Also, for your information she is employing the police members AND a security company, all of which will be paid for through the concert. If you did your homework, you would of known that all police, ambulance and everyone else is PAID by Ms. Noonan thus creating more jobs. And for the record, that was not a funny. Your responses have been more than funny.

I think i have a pretty good idea why she isnt at sportsmans. Sounds like dalzell doesnt want the events either. Anybody from the eaglez know why they didnt have her back there? its to the point i really dont care. i looking forward to her announcement about the tons of money she is donating this year and i will definifely foi records at city hall for proof of reimb off all city services. P.s. how much did that big CP ad cost to run? Cant believe rb would promote this. oh well. Wont wven make my next comment. respect rb too much.

You obviously care K, otherwise you would not take the trouble to look for records. I care, we should all care what goes on in our town. I am just hoping we can lay this to rest and do something great for the community, wonderful for the students in the area too. I know many children have benefited with the new computers, play equipment, etc. It is a respectable position to put yourself in when you donate money to any cause. Whether it be $5 or $50,000, there are many causes out there that need help.
