What is the main goal of the representatives of Peru in reference to the 4th of July?

Is it to have a family event?

Is it to have a CSO Beer Garden?

The reason I ask is that to much ta do has been made over it when the simple solution is to have the family event honoring our Nations birthday on its birthday rather than a day before. If the fireworks were on the 4th people would be having to go to work the next day - problem solved because everyone would be going home and to bed after the fireworks. Think I am wrong, try it and prove me wrong.

In the case of this story by the N.T., I think that the picture tells the story. Looking at that scene of Water Street would discourage anyone from even stepping foot on the grounds.
My thought is why are we even fighting this because I can't think of a family who would enter the area with their children, nothing but a damaged street and railroad tracks. Even the family area location this year is not appealing to me.
especially when there are so many other places to go to see the fireworks either on July 3 or July 4 or watch from the parking lots of some of the local stores or even First Street in LaSalle.

Thats to simple of a solution ! You know our city goverment wouldn't do that , thats why after most city meetings they all and i mean all the big shots meet at their favorit watering hole ( BAR ) to decuse what they did that nite . NOW PROVE ME WRONG !!!!

Decisions made 3 blocks from city hall, just drive by and you will recognize most cars, even those who try to be discreet about their parking place. Not only council but also some of the contractors for the city.

The idea of celebrating the 4th on the 4th with the fireworks on that date is a good idea and more patriotic than the 3rd. I second that motion, lets try it. As far as the beautiful scenic waterfront, O Boy! just look at the newspapers picture. The family designated area is some real prime real estate especially the city owned property which would be a eyesore to any town and here are our decision makers of Peru showcasing it.

Having it on the 4th would be more patriotic but I have had several people tell me they would like to see it on the weekends(most likely Saturday) where it would be most convenient for the majority. Fourth of July is not a recognized holiday at most companies these days but several people do have off on Sundays.

The big shots meet at the campaign offices of the Peru Township Tax man on Saturday mornings. Thats where the big decisions are made.

Can't wait to vote in the next elections. Peru needs a complete overhaul of all department heads and council.

WHAT AN EMBARASSMENT WATER STREET IS. WHY SHOULD PERU EVEN BE SPENDING MONEY ON FIREWORKS? Allocate that money to peru's pool fund that is spent on fireworks. A joke for the 50/50 raffle for fireworks! Won't spend 1cent on it. There are 5 other towns nearby to watch some fireworks! As far as the "no alcohol zone" on waterstreet July 3rd, that's a total joke, and to anybody who actually is so brainless to think that can and will be controlled needs to have their brain examined ASAP. And that no joke. Everybody, get your cameras and videos charged and ready to roll and shoot.

You have made some very good points that I do agree with.
#1 is that Peru wants a new pool and probably that would be agreed upon by the majority of its residents. But the problem is that we as a city "want to have our cake and eat it too" meaning we want somebody else to pay for it and therefore we are on the prowl for either the state or federal government to give us a grant instead of giving up something expensive like the fireworks for a number of years and when we have the money for a pool and it is built, then you have some money for other entertainment.
Many homeowners are doing this year after year when they need or perhaps want something for their home, they sometimes have to give up going out to dinner very often, vacations are eliminated or changed to something less expensive like several day trips instead of a week at Disneyland.
It is a good feeling to work toward something and when achieved it is with a feeling of satisfaction that you can do it but takes some self restraint.

Is a new pool alot like fireworks? Is it something that you need or want? Do taxpayers of Peru want to pay for a pool. $20,000 a year for fireworks or $200,000 a year for a pool used about 45 days all year long. Would you pay another $150 a year on your tax bill? The silent majority will say no.

The majority of Peru residents said yes we want a pool and yes we will pay alittle more on our city bill to get it! That was the survey we filled out several years back.

With these next few days going to be sizzling hot, I sure wish Peru had a pool!

pool used 45 days?

Get a indoor pool so you can use all year long.
