Peru Township leaders respond to high salaries - LaSalle News Tribune - LaSalle, IL

Criticizing people because of their relationship with twp personnel solves no problems. Please leave Matt and Joe Jr and Sr out of the conversation. The problem is not who is in the employ of the township, it is the structure and how do we get rid of it. No more personnel negativity, I won't print it.

Who are the trustees that are voting in these high salaries? To me, it seems like a lot of excuses given by Mr. Hocking and others regarding the amount of money the township spends on salaries and benefits.

In today's NT Peru's Township road commissioner Joe Oscepinski is shown in a picture driving North on 2550th Road. WHERE IS HIS SEATBELT?? Shoulder strap? After reading yesterday and today's articles in NT, there seems to be alot of shady things happening with Peru's Township! This is going to be interesting what the outcome is going to be.

maybe he was parked????????????

"The economic environment is tight right now so I'd like to keep our salaries constant." You have got to be kidding me! Everyone in the entire world is cutting back and slashing budgets. Why is this township exempt? Too many people knowing too many people. Absolutely pathetic! Family hiring family. Friends employing friends. Golly gee, sounds like a few of the old Peru departments. The name Peru is becoming a sour grape lately. Also, out of curiosity, if you have a catastrophic insurance policy to back losses, why are you reserving funds at the same time. In my opinion, this entire operation is nothing more than a tactic to keep a few employees highly paid by a few trustees that do absolutely nothing. Assign the budget to the City of Peru and/or Oglesby and reduce those costs with a bit of economies of scale. Thank you Mr. Reporter for digging up another wasteful disgrace associated with the Peru name. This insanity has got to end! As for the comment about "retaliation" as a result of a lost election, I say GOOD!! If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to worry about.

What has been the progress with getting a time clock for the city and does the township have one?

Anonymous said...

i am pretty sure if he had something to hided he wouldnt of ran and won the election. i do like the time clock idea though

Anonymous said...

That door swings both ways. YOU SHOULD BE WOORYING IF YOU ARE HIDING SOMETHING. Think of Dixon, Illinois! Some stupid and I mean STUPID TAXPAYERS AND ELECTED OFFICERS
UP THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

HE DOESN'T HAVE TO CARRY A SHOVEL---- SEEMS TO ME AN ELIMINATION FOR HIM AND A JOB FOR SOMEONE ELSE OR MAYBE HIS JOB IS NOT NECESSARY AT ALL!!! MONEY SAVED.

Anonymous said...

he is there.... i will definately credit him with that----cant say that about the clerk or appraiser.

Anonymous said...

So you are know Rorie Schweickert does the books for the township.

Anonymous said...

great headline lois- shame on the ppl who did that.

Anonymous said...

Hummm, Rorie does the books for Liberty Fire too! !

Anonymous said...

didn't she use to keep the ambulance service books too?

Anonymous said...

Someone needs to contact the Peru Police Chief for a full blown investigation!!!

Anonymous said...

I would like to congratulate LaSalle for being the New Leader of the Valley.
Peru is a joke from the river to north of the sandman motel. It sure sounds like Peru and Township are ran by wanna be Mobsters. This new Peru group calling out these thieves is organized by Perez. Alderman Perez for Mayor!!!

Anonymous said...

they aren't thieves- its the structure that is bad. be respectful

Anonymous said...

perez probably organized the meeting at the fire dept for them....that worries me

Anonymous said...

its the structure- not the ppl who are bad

Anonymous said...

calling the ppl themselves those names i believe is wrong- its the way illinois govt is that is the bad part.

Anonymous said...

5:19 I believe the Peru Police Chief is a trustee on the Township board.

Anonymous said...

11:02 Are you sure? Lois, could you get us a list of the trustees?

Anonymous said...

Yes it is a a fact the Peru PC is a trustee he was appointed to fill the vacancy of Hocking when he became head of Township. And yes he was contacted previously and said to go to the States attorney is LaSalle County. States Attorney said go to Peru Police Chief.

It may also be of great interest to see where the public assistance went to or who owned those properties!

Anonymous said...

not the ppl- just need reform and better structure

Anonymous said...

I believe that you have your Dougs confused. The CP is a demanding full time job which pays over $90,000 per year. A position paying $90,000 per year in Peru, Illinois would not leave sufficient amount of time to fulfill any other occupation. Next you will be stating that he has more political positions than CP and Trustee.
The only thing i've learned is that at a pay of $250.00 per meeting of 27 minutes you should be hiring high scale lawyers and CPA's to fill these positions for the township board.

Why do people in town have to support Peru Twp.?

Anonymous said...

1:31 the picture of chief bernabie shaking the hand of Hocking when he was appointed was posted in the News Tribune-it is the same person.

Anonymous said...

Oh that's right chief bernabie was also appointed the hat of civil defense for another several thousand a year. Hats thus far: police chief, township trustee, civil
defense! Seems like "Little Chicago" all over again!

Anonymous said...

Isn't Bernabei also on a committee with fire chief of Peru? Where each gets paid $1600-$1700 a year!! ESDA???? Wow!

Anonymous said...

Thank god for whistleblowers!I had no idea this existed. We need to be sure the citizens of Peru keep on this topic and educate them for the next election.
This sickens me.

I vaguely remember a float in the Peru Centennial Parade with a group wearing bright tee shirts. Is this the group which is presently active in investigating the local governments shady areas?

Anonymous said...

The Peru Centennial Parade was in 1935. ;)

Anonymous said...

its the system thats shady- all of illinois needs total reform

Anonymous said...

The current structure of the township is as follows:

Michael Hocking Township Supervisor

Bob Vickerey Peru Township Clerk

Doug Biederstedt Township Assessor

Joe Oscepinski Township Hwy Commissioner

Donald Koehler
Douglas Bernabei
Jack Hyson
T. William Radtke

All Peru Township Trustrees

I've also head they all receive free medical benefits, and anything not covered by the major medical is reimbursed up to $1200 a month for all full time employees including the full time secretary and the full time hwy employee. Also, the trustees get paid per meeting, and they get a medical reimbursement and contribution to their retirement. I would say as a tax payer these people should prepare for reform. Full time office manager?? She cost the taxpayers well over $80,000 a year and change is coming for sure. I believe in spit of this article they will go in and think they will win again. Does anyone know how to contact these reformers and investigators?

Anonymous said...

As a picker upper would someone name one government body that is being run right and the information which makes you believe this.
There was a saying years ago that was something like this, "Don't vote for any incumbent because they will cost too much".
Now it appears that you can't get rid of the incumbents because they are multiple office holders drawing many paychecks, benefits and pensions. Democracies do not have a history of lasting a long time. Reason being the greed of a few ruins it for all.

The group was a PAC. a public action committee. The sole mission was to support the newly elected Mayor. Nobody knows what the agenda of this group was. Most were involved to raise money to support those candidates that would be loyal to Harl. Maybe they became disinfranchised with the product they bought? Did they move to Wisconsin to support the failed recall election? You have to love the country we live in, we have the opportunity to assemble and meet about anything. We had a great bondfire and still have those bright shirts. Can't wait for the next big parade in 23 years.

Anonymous said...

Keep complaining and you will get a property tax increase. How much does that township assessor make? And does he also get a paycheck from LaSalle County and Chairman of the Democratic Party in Peru. And does he also have a position in Peru?

Peru Town Forum said...

11:25 AM

He is on several Peru city committees, important ones like the Zoning Board of Appeals and the Design and Review Committee.

Anonymous said...

And he also runs the Harl re-election campaign?

Anonymous said...

OMG!!! You people actually think any of this will hurt their next election? The only way the city, or the township will see change is if the people get out the vote by bringing people to the polls that never vote. people of Peru need to be educated of the political strong arms in office and why they need to go. If anyone thinks this will be an easy Mob to oust you all are in for a surprise. It has been tried in the past and has failed everytime. It's the same people going to the polls everytime. This entire valley is ran by the crooked politics of the Democratic Party that has controlled this town for years. They empowered themselves more by bringing in Harl with Union backing which only intensifies their security. The old regime leaders ( supporters ) saw the ending of Baker coming and knew if they didn't get behind Harl they were doomed. Harl will be re-elected along with the current township members. As I said the only way a change will happen is by getting out the vote and message to people that don't, or seldom ever vote. Start the drive now or things remain the same.

Sorry ald can. Was the statement above u

This topic died a quick death. The taxpayers don't seem to care and its was a 24 hour headline. We have become immune to public greed! The new topic is the lost organ at LP high school. For the above lost soul who believes that they will get out the vote to change to township, your out of touch. The Democratic Committee Leader with those Union backed campaign wages/funds will stop you real quick. Thats all it takes is one of those letters to the brotherhood endorsing our Democrat Brothers that are for the working man. People in out small city have been buying that crap for years. If you think you can win a election without the dirty tricks, good luck. Ask Matt, Art, Baker or others what you need to win. I bet it won't be good ideas and strong character.

Anonymous said...

thats for sure. nor hard work. as why they didnt succeed

Anonymous said...

3:55 Nothing is stopping me!How am I out of touch? If you read between the lines I said pretty much the same thing you did. I'm not speaking of just any "Get out the Vote Campaign." Did you not see what just happened in Wisconsin? Union support came out from everywhere, from over a 200 mile radius with thousands of union dollars invested in advertising and campaigns to try and Oust that Union wage cutting thug. What the Hell happened there? I'm explaining what happened there-The people from all walks of the political spectrum from Democrats, Republicans, and the Independents and the everyday family man and wife were rallied by a populist and voted with their "WALLETS" I've been with my union local 710 for 18 years and about to retire, I’ve been paying attention to politics since i was 17 years old. Our union brotherhood is losing power and respect due to greed from the head cheeses. If you are a member of a union don't turn the blind eye of what is happening here, it’s not about "us" (the hard working) anymore! its about our bosses with the so-called muscle making sure their families are provided for. My brother and father have been with local 25 pipefitters for many years and they see it. My cousin has been a welder with local 1 out of Chicago for over 15 years. My whole family has been raised within the democratic union family and committed to the working people of this country. So I have great insight of how this all works. Turn your head and believe it or not but there are the good, bad and the ugly within my party. and the “ugly democrats” such as the one’s running the Peru City Hall, and the Peru Township are obviously in Greed mode, what we seen take place in Wisconsin will happen here with the right person running- regardless of party affiliation. The right populist with drive, energy, and the Ba**s to call out the names behind the greed and show up at the every-day peoples doors with proof and facts that person would win!! regardless of the number of signs and union dollars opposing. If you think this sounds crazy please refer back to Wi.

Maybe some of you are hard working, but a lot of you only know how to inflate a rat and wave around a picket sign, whining about why you didn't get this or get that, and those are the facts 557

It surprises me people think Harl is a democrat. I thought he was an independent but then I saw this. Harl gave money to Vickerey for his election.....

That is because Vickery is a RINO-look at his voting record on the County or how he takes advantage of township payroll.

HARL IS A CONFIRMED DEMOCRAT -- DON'T FOOL YOURSELF!!! UNIONS ARE DEMOCRATIC. I'M NOT FOR ONE SIDE OR THE OTHER, HOWEVER I FIND MYSELF MORE TO THE CONSERVATIVE SIDE ESPECIALLY BEING SELF EMPLOYED. PEOPLE WAKE UP-- UNIONS HAVE RUN BUSINESS OUT OF THE COUNTRY AND ACROSS THE OCEAN BECAUSE OF BENEFITS AND HIGH WAGES. IF ANYONE BELONGS TO A UNION MY ARGUMENT ISN'T WITH THEM-IT IS WITH THE ONES DOING NOTHING AND COLLECTING MONEY OFF OF A WORKINGMAN'S CHECK AND DOING NOTHING AND CALLING FOR A STRIKE BECAUSE OF A FEW DOLLARS BEING TAKEN FROM A PAYCHECK FOR INSURANCE!! DON'T START COMPLAINING, I'VE PAID FULL PREMIUM ALL MY LIFE AND AM DAMN GLAD TO HAVE IT! THINK BACK AND SEE HOW MANY BUSINESSES THAT AREN'T HERE ANYMORE WERE UNION AT THE TIME. WHAT WAS THE LAST,JEWEL? I BELIEVE THE FIRST MAJOR BUSINESS WAS WESTCLOX AND IT HAS MUSHROOMED SINCE THEN WITH JEWEL BEING LAST AND HOW MANY IN BETWEEN (DON,T FORGET CONSOLLIDATED FREIGHT AND OTHER TRUCKING BUSINESSES THAT LEFT. YEP THEY SHOWED THEM!!! WAKE UP-- IF YOU APPRECIATE YOUR JOB, GO TO WORK, CROSS THE LINE IF YOU HAVE TO--IF YOU DON'T SOMEONE WILL!ALL THE BIG MOUTHS SPOUTING UNION- UNION-UNION-STRIKE- STRIKE-STRIKE ARE NOT THINKING OF YOU--THEY ARE ALSO THE FIRST TO HIRE A SO CALLED SCAB WHEN THEY HAVE TO DISH OUT MONEY OUT OF THERE OWN POCKET AND TAKE HOME FROM THE JOB WHAT THEY CAN GET AWAY WITH. UNIONS ONCE HAD A NEED, HOWEVER IT HAS TURNED THE OTHER DIRECTION AND HIGH PRICED LABOR AND BENEFITS HAS WRECKED THIS COUNTRY. THIS IS WHY WE CANNOT COMPETE WITH OTHER COUNTRIES-AND DON'T START WITH CHILD HELP OR QUALITY, YOU GET WHAT YOU ORDER.
