Peru Park Equipment Not Being Repaired

Here I am at the same park again and I am not even going to mention it by name. This park should be the pride of the city so please look at the broken equipment we give our children to play on. The first picture of the slide has a broken piece of railing, other pictures also show broken equipment. If you live nearby, go and check it out for yourself. The Recreation Commission has 50,000 plus 25,000 to spend and 20,000 will be spent for 20 minutes of entertainment next week. We have people visualizing new baseball fields, soccer fields and pickleball courts and you can see from the pictures that children are not included in the priorities.

The last picture is the sign at pickleball park, yes we found money for that. BTW tonight I was invited into one of those adjacent backyards and this is what I can now say "I Went, I Saw and I Heard". On days that pickleball is being played those backyards have become unusable. What a shame that the people who control this city have allowed this travesty to take place! It is now a private playground for friends and friends of officials.

This playground equipment requires more than a coat of paint by the summer help, so please don't try and apply that fix.

Has anything been done to any of the other parks besides resurfacing the courts and changing a much used court into something else.

Here's some more food for thought. The police chief and the assistant police chief both got new vehicles (at no cost to the city). The assistant chiefs used vehicle went to SPW whose vehicle in turn went to Frank Taylor. Mr. Taylors used vehicle now sits in the city hall parking lot.

The police chiefs used vehicle is supposed to go the assistant fire chief. However, the city had just purchased a new 3/4 ton pick up for his use. I've seen it parked at the fire station lately in the same spot. Don't know who or what that vehicle is going to be used for now.

It seems as though the city should have an abundance of vehicles yet the SPW just recently stated he was short of them. I'm stumped.

I was under the impression that any time you wanted to use a city park facility you had to get council approval. Does anybody recall the pickleball ambassador requesting permission to reserve the court for 2 hours on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for the entire year? Or is this just another incident of the ambassador doing what he wanted or another perk of having a relative on the rec commission?

Regarding monies spent on unnecessary expenditures!! Last night on channel 2 news there was a segment on GARDNER.ILLINOIS VOLUNTEER'S FIRE DEPARTMENT BEING SHUT DOWN BY SHERRIFFS DEPARTMENT DUE TO $47,000 being unaccounted for. VERY INTERESTING. GOOGLE IT!! It was a WOW MOMENT. This really isn't the title blog to bring this up, but there wasn't another one to do so!

That sliding board is disgusting and that didn't happen over night. That deteriorating has been going on for quite some time. I wish we would put as much emphasis toward our youth as we do satisfying some individuals.

The daytime use of the new pickleball courts is virtually non-existant, even on the weekend. The neighborhood has been depleted by the selfishness of a few, who use the court for their personal pleasure.
Shame on the Park Board.
Shame on the City.

Make that a bumper sticker and I will put it on my car.

Click on the pictures above and enlarge them. It gives you a very good picture of the true condition of this equipment.

"COURTS ARE RESERVED DURING CLINIC HOURS"
Why if there are set clinic hours are they not posted? Where are these hours posted? Whose establishing the clinic hours? Is it possible for someone to conduct their own clinic? Why not we are all citizens of Peru. Therefore I do not believe anyone has the authority to reserve these courts anymore than anyone else.
Really should not be a debatable subject since the many who are watching the pickle ball courts say that they are seldom used if ever used beyond the ambassador and a few politicians.
What is the correct word or words to describe someone who to gain the vote of one would displease many unjustly?

I hate pickleball.

The clinic hours have been changed several times already. I guess the ambassador has the approval of the rec commission (which seems to have total control over this pickle ball court) to do as he pleases. The current clinic hours are posted on the city bench located outside the court entrance. I agree with you 10:14, no one else has the authority to do this without council approval.

The recreation commission needs to be revamped and make them more of an advisory board with the council either approving or disapproving their actions and also their expenditures. Their actions regarding pickleball have proven to the community that they are showing favoritism and not speaking for the community. The road block to this being done will be Alderman Ankiewicz.

When I hear the word repair I immediately think of a product or structure which has been broken through deterioration or negligence.
When I hear the words preventive maintenance or maintenance I think of short and long range planning and have confidence that I will very seldom hear the word repair.
Peru is putting way too much money in the personnel in charge of maintaining its equipment such as playground equipment, infrastructure etc. and not enough into the actual maintenance costs.

Lois, thought you might find this interesting. Apparently other cities can find other sources of funding for splash pads:

Well, the minutes of the May 8th rec commission meeting have finally been posted. However, there seems to be some discrepancy in them. The secretary states that only 3 members were present and that the April 9th minutes could not be approved because of a lack of a quorum. However, that meeting was actually held on April 10th and those minutes have been posted on the city web-site for quite some time. As a matter of fact those are the minutes where we found out the ambassador was turning the tennis court into 4 permanent pickle ball courts. Strange!

5:48 As a matter of fact those very minutes were posted on the blog on 5/9 the day after the May Recreation Commission meeting. How can that be secretary if indeed there were only 3 members at that meeting and you haven't yet approved those minutes?

Hey 4:31 if the pickle ball courts are not used very often, then why all the complaints about noise?

You sound like one of the special interests tooting your own horn.

12:03 You haven't heard real complaints about the noise. NOT YET! It may be coming so watch out!

I do know from people who have seen them that both Ald. Ankiewicz and Ald. Radtke were at the 28th Steet Park but that was not to check the playground equipment but to try their hand at pickleball.
Ald. Radtke this is your ward, give us a report on the condition of the playground equipment the next time you are at the park or does this job belong to the recreation commission?

Great that Ald. Ankiewicz sampled pickle ball. Wish he'd hold off for cooler weather. May be a lot safer. Awful big boy too move on a concrete court on a blistering hot day. Bet you won Bob!

Bloggers the meaning of Ald. Ankiewicz sampled pickle ball is that he played it, not that he ate it. Quite a confusion over this at the local coffee shop this morning. Still not as comical as him and Harl making a tee ter totter out of that plastic bench at Washington School this spring.

What park is that?
