Venture and 38th Public Works Tomorrow 8/13
Among the topics scheduled for tomorrow is the INTERSECTION. If you are free join the committee and offer your suggestions. The more there the better it will be. Everybody's opinion counts, I hope. Scheduled time is 10 AM

Is there a specific set of procedures for submitting written protest, impact statements, citizen studies, business studies, video, suggested alternatives diagrams , traffic light proposals and quotes, petitions, questions from corporate counsel, etc? May these types of things be presented to the clerk prior to the meeting? Would they be distributed for review by committee members? Will there be a formal public q and a session and if not can that be requested during the public comment segment? You have attended more of these meetings than most of us I am sure, so I thought you might have some idea of the rules and procedures.
Meetings are pretty informal and should follow the published agenda. Sometimes they ask you to sign a sign in paper which they should always do. And then you listen until they are ready for your public comment. The more people that attend, the more formal it becomes. If you have written paper work, please ask when you get there if you might pass them out to the people you wish to have them. And if you feel that you did not have the opportunity to present to this committee, get in touch with one of your aldermen and see if he will get you some presentation time at the council. Although I must admit that last suggestion is becoming more difficult to do as the Mayor will only give you 3 minutes. I am hoping for a fair number of people to come tomorrow and if it rains, we will get someone who knows his business on engineering roads because he will not be able to work. I understand that Ald. Mayszak and Perez cannot come because of work and no the powers that be will not change the time.
Lois, since most cannot attend a meeting at that time of day, would it be possible for you to video the meeting? Or if that not a possibility could you do audio so at least we could listen? Thank You

Thanks!...but I wouldn't say we are "traffic control specialists." However, I would say we try our best to be " Specialists in communications amongst our constituents, and business partners." people with common sense, and a vision,that can seek input from a wide variety of resources can design a successful future through teamwork.
9:02 As a general rule of thumb, the city might want to try the least dramatic and drastic changes first to see if they alleviate the problem. This minimizes the learning curve, and as long as there is not extreme expense involved in doing a phased in approach, it would be preferable to doing a complete no left turn from any direction, no north south traffic approach. Sorry if you think this approach advocates chaos. I don't think the two representatives are advocating chaos either, although it seems that anyone who questions the city elders is considered a radical around here. In this case I think they just want to get plumbing supplies and other consumer goods , have a peanut buster parfait and go home. Sorry if that overthrows the kingdom.
It is no secret that alderman Dave Waldorf desperately wants to keep Public Works committee meetings in the a.m. so that public attendance will always be minimal at best. Waldorf wants as few citizens as possible to witness the ease at which he is influenced and manipulated by Chamlin personnel. You can't really blame him for wanting to hide that from public view. It is quite sad and humiliating for the citizens of Peru.
Why not add "at 38th street, not Dairy Queen. If you want to go to Dairy Queen go ahead and turn left right now, but watch for cars. And when you leave maybe you should head north first and go all the way round then down to the south , turn left and head out to 251."
I was going to add "and give it a rest" but I thought that would just be silly and would make the sign too long.
We went to the public works committee mtg and we heard from the mayor, the committee and the Chamlin engineer. And I can say with petty much certainty that no changes will be made to the current setup. Kristy was able to video some of it and not sure but it looked like her WI FI connection was locked out. The business owners again expressed their dissatisfaction with the current intersection. I asked if the mayor had checked with our police dept to get a record of accidents because this is such a dangerous intersection. No he had not. We had lunch at DQ today and since we came off of 251, it was easy but coming from the opposite way, you cannot enter without going to the last Peoria St intersection and back down Venture Drive and wait until northbound traffic has cleared to turn left into their parking lot. Semi truck traffic which today knocked down a Stop Sign at Venture and 38th was not adequately addressed. Last week it was the post on the opposite side that got whacked by a semi. These businesses depend upon truckloads of merchandise delivering to their business at least several times per week and now have no easy way to get there and this was not adequately addressed.
I am glad you are visiting your thoughts and inviting us to come along. I am sure thoughts in your head must get pretty lonely without much company. Let's wait until the transcripts are reviewed and a full IDOT FOIA inquiry is completed to crown the King's common sense. Not everyone in your HOST of engineers agrees with your overly simplified assessment. How many engineers does it take to make up a host, by the way? Just curious. No one should be surprised at the results of today's meeting. It was anticipated, irritating, but necessary for documentation.

2:18 I don't think Rodney is looking for publicity on the venture drive issue. Chamlin and Harl created this mess on their own. Perez is listening to the people and trying to help. By the way, what instigated the change anyway? Has it been proven how dangerous the intersection actually is? How many accidents occurred there in the last 10 years? Might want to reconsider rerouting the north side of the 51 overpass by Arby's. Now that's a mess. Might want to consider rerouting by Fulmers and kmart. Very dangerous based on the debris on the road. What about shooting park road and 51? accidents there too? Just my opinion.
I propose that the state get busy and plan a bypass around Peru instead of right through the middle and causing us all this high traffic issues because we can't deal with it.
Does anyone recall the very original design of 38th Street? From memory I believe the road was never intended to curve but go straight and technically be across from Wendy's. This story goes way way back but apparently the rumor was when Chamlin was engineering the development someone wanted a corner lot in that area and that is why the road curves. Anyone else recall the story?

Kristy, are you talking about the bank properties? I don't recall that issue. Pull up the plats. Signatures of relevant interested parties should be on them.

10:55 You should of sold your stock in 2007. Home Depot is still a good buy with many going the remodeling route as oppossed to new home buys. A few new lines won't have any effect on Home Depot. DQ should be easy to get to in the wee mornings hours, but they don't have that free or cheap coffee that your looking for. And you probably have had dinner by 3pm and won't want to get on road north of the Shooting Park after dark. Your be Ok. If they bring back those 99 cent parfaits you will be driving through the stop signs regaurdless of the new route. A engineering student? Lets hope we have hopes for the kid, don't limit their education on this simple change.
I'm 10:55--- I read these blogs and do take an interest in where my tax dollars are spent. Also, I work 60 hours a week, unable to attend very many council meetings. Yes, through the years I have spoken to some alderman regarding issues with Peru, which were unanswered. I don't know Lois, Kristy, Brian, etc.. personally. Actually, my husband if truth be told is a city of Peru employee. I wish I didn't have to hide behind "anonymous". And I hope an intelligent person would understand why. Lastly, intersection is a fiasco, it's a shame that nobody had the common sense to see that it was going to be. A LITTLE LAUGHTER GOES A LONG WAY-GET A PERSONALITY!
This is 10:55 again. This intersection is what my adult engineering student was taught not to recommend in their first two years of schooling. And, he/she hasn't graduated or gotten a paycheck yet. But, I guarantee you he/she will not work in the Illinois Valley upon graduation. Lastly, I was at that intersection again today to take note, and I will avoid it at all costs. I guess no more "chili cheese dogs," until it's fixed. Kudos.
It seems some people are not happy that Kristy and Lois and others who are involved and speak their concerns on issues and situations regarding taxpayers money, and how our city is being run. Some may agree or disagree with their views. But, an intelligent and unbias person can and will make their own valuation. Anybody who takes an interest in their city, town, etc... should be commended for their efforts. Living in the U.S.A. and beiing involved citizens is what America is all about. Thanks to all who show interest. Keep up the fantastic job to all and don't be intimidated by anyone. Callled "freedom of speech."
Hey 10:55 a.m. LMAO! Makes me wonder if DQ will start a delivery service. Maybe that would add a few jobs to the area. Better yet, the summer help hired for the city can move on up to the northside for a job and save the city some money being that too many were paid to goof off. It's same old story, it's who you know and your last name.
10:55 do you know that the first two years of college are core basic classes? The student of yours may be very advanced to be working on traffic design in year 1-2 of college. Its a shame that young people with so much talent are forced to leave our area for better jobs. Most of us will go to great lengths to get one of those chili cheese dogs. If your going up for another dog, go to the intersection and take a right turn. That will get you into DQ. I do admit if your are driving a Motor Home or the hubby's city truck you will have to be careful. The old model T should not have a problem. Don't forget when you get that cheese dog make sure to tell the owner that you will never come back. That's always a good way to slam the city planners. And when the city fails to provide the sales tax you will be at City Hall complaining about wages and benefits. Take a pill or grab a peanut butter parfait and relax.

You have attended more of these meetings than most of us I am sure, so I thought you might have some idea of the rules and procedures.
Perhaps you could suggest they move it to a later time. People who work the typical 9-5 Monday through Friday can't attend. Ever.

Lets visit these thoughts. Rodney vs the experience of IDOT and a host of traffic engineers. The Mayors common sense vs Rodney.
