I read the brochure on the Maude Powell Festival. Someone forgot to include the location of the pickleball tournament, beer tent, farmers' market, and the fireworks.

I have not scene a beer tent for many years. The CSO has a booth for the fireworks that sells beer. The last tent was on Water street for the Peru Heritage days. It was a great time! The fireworks are held on July 3rd and have been popular with many in the area. The fresh vegetables markets are held in LaSalle on Tuesdays and Mendota on Saturdays. In addition Peru HyVee has a great selection of local market favorites. Why duplicate that because a few in Peru won't drive their horse and buggy to LaSalle or HyVee? I don't think enough people have played pickleball to gain enough popularity for a tournament. Peru does host a nice tennis tournament and some great baseball tournament during the summer. If you don't like the Maud Powell festival don't go. Anon 8:01 why mock Maude? You can still drink a Falstaff under a tent while you complain about a pickleball court. Let us enjoy the festival and you enjoy complaining about nothing of importance like pickleball.

I must tell you that people are much smarter than you are giving them credit for, in fact your comment makes you look rather silly.
Whether it is called a beer tent or a beer garden, it makes no difference, it exists to sell beer.

About "why mock Maude"? People are expressing their opinion and that is just the way they feel, no mocking intended.
The game of pickleball is not the problem, it is the people who organized and put it together and the people who allowed it to happen where it did. Your perfect organized world may exist for you but it certainly does not for many others I suggest you get off your high horse and take your Falstaff and enjoy it because you sure don't relate to most people in Peru.

Anon 3:20 : Ever hear of a technique called "satire" Making reference to pickleball, markets, tents, and fiddles is an example of holding things up to ridicule to prove a point. Sorry you missed it and the humor.
