Post Council Meeting Thoughts

Fairly large attendance, that is for a Peru Council Meeting. Public Comment.....NONE. But the mayor plans to proceed with his plan to have an ordinance put in place to put rules in place because most major cities have one. This will stifle any in Peru unless it s a project with an agenda to promote

Aldermen Perez wants a vote scheduled for video taping the council and hiring and buying what is needed through Connecting Point. The mayor thinks we need to talk some more. I am not sure it has the votes to pass.

IML convention coming up in Chicago in October. It is supposed to be a learning experience for the aldermen and they bring their new found news back to Peru. They should be required to share that news with the city who paid for their jaunt to the big city. Last year we patiently waited for a summary of what they learned, and while they plan for this years new experience, we have not heard even one word from one alderman that attended last year about what was talked about at the conferences they attended.

Alderman Perez brought up the additional traffic surveys he had done with volunteers on 38th and Venture Drive and noted the continued same results of U Turns, Hobby Lobby turn arounds and in the bank lot also plus continued downturn in business sales. I heard about a semi truck who had difficulty navigating the intersection to go north. No comment from the mayor or council, except that Mayor Harl asked Super Bleck if the additional signs directing 251 traffic were in. Super Bleck said no that it takes longer to make special signs.

No further discussion on the intersection and the old power plant problem did not even surface.

Why would we taxpayers expect anything different? Perfectly understandable that this conference is paid for by we taxpayers, food and soda, gas, and hotel. However not for the alcohol that will be flowing. Do you think Mayor
Harl will pay for all the alcohol with his campaign contributions (money)? Can't wait to see the Itemized bill! Also, maybe their transportation to the conference can be
In one of the newer city vehicles from any departments. Cheaper to use those vehicles than to pay per mile to use their own personal vehicles. Better yet, a train from mendota or Princeton will surfice. Save us taxpayers money. Or rent a van !

What's this I read on Facebook about the fiber optic network the city paid for and put in only for Connecting Point to be making money off of it and selling the cities internet access for profit. And Peru makes no money off of it. Connecting Point should put our council meeting on the website for free!

If this project has been for only connecting points usage how much did
they pay for the project and how much did the city pay?

Once again time for the annual IML Convention. If you find fault simply include it in your bucket list of Peru politics distribute your reasoning publicly at every opportunity you get and remind others why next April you intend to cast your vote as you do. Lets all assure that April showers bring May flowers.

Peru's in a drought! We do need new seeds in April 2013.

Agreed, but who is running?

I want to see the proof about the fiber instead of just people starting rumors. If it's true then the city is just stupid and if it's false then people that spread the rumors are.
From what I heard, the city receives money monthly for the fiber and that should be easy to find out from the city records. I've also heard that the city sells fiber usage directly to companies to connect multiple locations.

The city can't legally sell the services from the fiber. And we get no money from it.

Check the city books. I know for a fact that our company is billed through Connecting Point with part of that charge going to the City. I also know from another company that they have 2 locations connected together and that was done directly through the city.

Whoever is running is a good question but rather early to declare. Although it is a good time to start thinking about running if you have the vocation.
Does anyone have any good suggestions to whom they would like to see run? Wouldn't it be great to see people who are qualified, honest, fair and have Peru at heart.
It appears that 150 has made itself very unpopular within Peru and Peru Twp. by its representation. Remember when you go to vote vote with your pocketbook not your bank book.
