Just got back into town to see this horrible disaster. Read all reports. Where was The Peru Fire Chief in all this? I heard he was out celebrating out of town. Some leadership!!
8:42 p.m. - Trying to capitalize on the misfortune and misery of an entire community by making stupid comments is the last thing we need right now. Knock it off!
I thought the paper stated that when the firemen got to the scene it was already engulfed in flames and out of control. If the picture above is one of the first pictures where are the flames?
Thank you Steve....I guess if you're the fire chief you can never leave town on a holiday according to some.
If you look just above the headlights that are facing you...you can see the orange just above them.
Where is the Superintendent of Public Works?
Why 8:52 do you have to know where the SPW is?
It was News Year Eve, are you not allowed to go to a party or have party, because you hold an office in the city. Even the Pres. gets to go to parties. Quit critizing people.
Ignorance, pure ignorance. One, who could have POSSIBLY foreseen someone setting fire to this building on New Years Eve, it's not like any of the firefighters are physic and can foresee these things to know if they should stay in town or not. Two, if he was not on duty that night, why on earth WOULDN'T he go celebrate the new year with his family and friends, I'm sure you did. Three, the second a firefighter starts drinking, he has to turn off his pager immediately, which, considering it was the new year, I'm sure that was the case for him, meaning even if he had been in town that night he wouldn't have been allowed to go there to work anyways. BUT, if you haven't noticed, he was there every second afterwards making sure the fire was taken care of and everyone in our town was safe.
Think before you leave careless, idiotic comments like that.
THE FIRE WAS IN THE BACK OF THE BLDG!!!!
And it took four days after the chief returned from his vacation to explain as to his whereabouts and to give praise to where praise is due.on radio wlpo today. In Monday's paper several statement were made by chief king in regards to the fire.it nice that he was updated on the fire and speak on it when he was even there. If one would like to know that we taxpayers pay chief king for his position as fire chief, as well as $32 dollars per call he makes, as well as $1,800.00 a year to be on a emergency management committe, plus he has a command vehicle he drives around town . Vacations? We all need, question is how many a year and still being paid a nice salary. Ask the firemen and firemen that are no longer on the department their knowledge into this matter. The honest ones will tell the truth. We taxpayers are not getting the full service. Several issues have been brewing and it inevitable that a horrific incident brings these things out. How about our our two alderman Ferrari and Perez who are in charge of the fire and safety check into some of this after the smoke settles. To see if we taxpayers are getting a bang for our buck! Happy New Year.
