Public Property Meeting 12/11

DATE OF MEETING: Monday, December 28, 2011 TIME: 6:45 p.m.
PLACE OF MEETING: Peru Municipal Building
1901 4th Street, Peru, IL 61354
COMMITTEE MEMEBERS PRESENT: Alderman Ankiewicz, Alderman Mayszak
OTHER PERSONS PRESENT:
MATTERS DISCUSSED:
Meeting called to order by Alderman Ankiewicz
Alderman Ankiewicz made a motion that the minutes of December 19, 2011 be received and placed on file. Alderman Mayszak seconded the motion; motion carried.

New Business
Mayszak reported that she found information about seeking airport project bids and the qualifications needed by the engineering firm handling the airport projects. Ankiewicz was not in favor of going for bids since Chamlin’s has been handling the airport projects since the airport opened.
Landfill/ground water sampling – Mayszak asked Ankiewicz if he read the letter from Steve Weberski about going out for bids for ground water sampling. He stated that he had received the letter. He said he spoke to Chris Perra and Chris told him that his company does part of that testing for free, so there is no way another company would bid less that what TEST does it for. Ankiewicz was not in favor of going out for bids for the ground water sampling.
Frank Taylor sent an email to the owner of King’s Inn regarding the numerous things needed to be done there. We will ask Frank to keep us informed if there is any progress. Unfinished Business
Water Street road repair – Mayszak reported that Mayor Harl was having the area in front of the Peru Rescue Station repaired.
Swimming Pool
Marseilles is coming on December 29 to pick up the items they bid on and won.

Airport – We need to make sure we get the airport improvements in the budget. Meeting adjourned at 7:15 p.m.28/11

Looks like Ald. Bob likes the way it has always been, doesn't it?

Everytime Ald. Mayszak suggests going out for bids, what is his answer?

Did they go out for bids for the area in front of the rescue station? Looks like Steve found a new pupil and did she also take the minutes?

Yes, I took the minutes, but they have to be approved by our committee, which means Ald. Ankiewicz approved them as written. Seeking bids is a responsible thing to do in order to save money. I know when I make a purchase, I check prices. It's just common sense.

Yes Sherry it is the responsible thing to do and I wanted people to see that some of our aldermen are doing the right thing and others are not moving forward. I give you my thanks for trying to do things right in the face of obstacles.

Especially with what the city pays TEST yearly for water testing/landfill testing and certified operator

9:02pm--what does the city pay TEST yearly for water testing/landfill testing and certified operator?

11:05 I don't know what the city pays TEST but I'm sure it isn't cheap, must be why the city is checking other prices

There is such a thing as a committee of two! Does a committee of two have any actual decision making ability? And I'm confused in the minutes you mentioned Weberski. Is he on your committee?

11:34 Obviously you never attend city council meetings or you're just playing dumb but, whatever the case may be the answer is yes -there are committees of 2. And yes - they do havve some decision making abilities. If you would take the time and read the posts carefully you would have realized that they were referring to a letter sent by Mr. Weberski and no he is not on the committee of 2 (Mayszak and Ankiewicz).

Sherry: Being that you feel one way on the above 2 mentioned topics and Mr. Ankiewicz feels the opposite will you bring these issues to full council for discussion and vote?

Saving money is not always a bargain....we can only hope the quality of service provided by money saving low bid contractor is equaled or surpassed to current contractor. Just a thought.
