The Learning Curve for the 38th St Intersection

This was the first time, we ventured up to watch how people react to the instructions for maneuvering through the intersection. I see no way this will turn out the way the officials hope it will without actual physical barricades to prevent cars from going into business parking lots to turn around and that cannot be done. We saw the people in the bank lot and strip mall parking lot do the expected drive through. Surprising the number who did U turns in the roadway. Actually a few of them turned left when there was not a car on the 38th st, coming in to make a right turn. We actually had quite a laugh watching how creative people were when they wanted to go east after coming down Venture.

Plan B is what?

PLAN "B" ...

NEW MAYOR AND 3/4 OF THE COUNCIL REPLACED! !!!!!!

If it is as bad as you say, there will only be one solution. The bank will not accept all the uturn traffic. Intersection monitoring with video ticketing will need to be implemented. I am guessing it is mostly locals, since I have had to take worse diversions at major malls in the US to get back on the main roads. If the local motorists refuse to follow the markings unless a police car is there, I can't see any other way to enforce it. Someone had mentioned a roundabout, but I don't know if there is enough room considering the van trailers that use the intersection. I never read what the major problems were before this? Accident frequency, back ups into the North South roads? Are traffic lights too expensive?

Plan B is obvious. Shovel more money to Chamlin.

Funny thing is the traffic flow hasn't been decreased at this intersection at all, which was the main objective of this. This idea was originally brought up at a public works committee?! Thank you alderman Waldorf and lukosus. You have both done a wonderful job. So glad I have the opportunity to vote lukosus out of there. He wasn't the mayors best choice when he got appointed and this only reinforces that notion. If anybody knows somebody who will be running for 4th ward alderman I would like to meet them and get there thoughts on various recent topics, I can't wait to cast my vote to get this bozo out of office.

Am I the only one who remembers Venture Drive is not a dead end? Are people really so lazy that they aren't unwilling to follow Venture drive to where it meets Peoria Street? It's five minutes out of your day at the max, and probably less.

I'll concede the Youtube video was humorous, but these are probably the same drivers that disobey the "Mall Traffic Use Second Right" sign and forced the change in the first place. The new intersection pattern isn't dangerous unless drivers don't follow the rules, but you could say the same about any intersection (naysayers, please google "left turns are dangerous" before you comment on this one). The signs aren't there for decoration and the paint isn't there to make the road look pretty.

When Christmas comes it will be nice to drive South on 251 and not have cars backed up half way to I-80. Maybe the city could add some orange flexible pylons like they used to have at the intersection of Plank and Peoria (or build some curbs if they are feeling more devious) and make the pattern more visible to those who juggle a latte and a cell phone while they drive.

Too bad that eyesore west of BurgerKing isn't closer to this fiasco. City could have it cleaned up and used for making u-turns.

Going from Dairy Queen to I-80 via the old route was 0.5 miles. Via the new route is 2.3 miles.

10:10 AM Don't walk it. Drive It. It wouldn't seem nearly as far.

Just went by that intersection. Saw 3 cars turn right at corner of Venture & 38th. 2 of the 3 failed to obey proper procedure.

IT'S A JOKE! I JUST CAME FROM THERE AND WILL FIND SOME PLACE ELSE TO SPEND MY MONEY!

3:31 You must be a member of the city council. That is the "screw you if you don't like it" we've come to expect. Why should the residents and businesses of the community have to sacrifice because of the stupidity and lack of planning of the government and city engineers?

Someone earlier suggested putting in a right turn from Rt. 251 about have way down the mall parking lot similar to what you see in front of Kohl's and Wal-Mart. Why not do this? In the time it takes to put this in the city will have paid less than what they will end up paying to Chamlin for this fiasco.
Also...where's the input from the PD? Most of the other towns/cities with similar commercial properties utilize resources with the PD traffic divisions. Why not have the Police Chief work on this instead of paying Chamlin?

@4:53 & 5:49
The owners of jalapeno's must be outraged at all the newly rerouted traffic discovering their business for the first time.

I'M TURNING AROUND IN THE CLOSEST LOT---LIKE IT OR NOT!! CAN'T WAIT TO SEE PLAN B.

Plan B is obey the trafic signals and quit bitching.

Something must be done. Present timing is perfect. Plenty of daylight and five months before the heaviest traffic during the holiday season and sleet, ice and snow. Five months for the majority of drivers to learn the new traffic pattern.
If the present plan is inadequate please submit one of your own which you believe is better.

Why is it that so little interest is taken in Peru government? Except for local office holders, city employees and a few citizens there is no outward interest. Major evidence of this is the lack of attendance at committee and council meetings.
School Superintendents are now following the footprint of city governments in making a effort of raising money by getting their areas to raise sales tax rather than increasing property taxes. Peru having paid a school and road improvements by such a method. It must be remembered that a increase in taxes is a increase in taxes no matter how it is disguised.

PLAN B IS TO SHUT THE LEFT TURN LANE OFF NORTH 251 DOWN AND THE RIGHT TURN LANE OFF SOUTH BOUND 251 DOWN ! PROBLEM SOLVED ! THE BILL IS IN THE MAIL CITY OF PERU !!!!

We need trafic lights installed to work in sync with the lights on
38th /rt251.

Good luck with that. It is to short a distance and you would still have traffic backed up.
