Election Season - Petitions Being Circulated

Very short council meeting tonight with treats (bags of popcorn) provided by our city clerk.
Several petitions were circulated among the audience, prior to the city council meeting, including people running for township offices. Travis Nelson for Twp. Clerk, Art Rigby, Mary Landsiedel, Edward Mitchell and I believe one more, for the trustee positions.
Mike Sapienza from the 3rd Ward is planning on running against Ald. Bob Ankiewicz.

Mike Hart will be running for Mayor against Mayor Scott Harl.

Justen Loger will be running for Alderman in the Fourth against Jim Lukosus.

These gentlemen were all present at the meeting.

I was told that as of now there are 4 petitions out for the 2 Aldermans seat in the First Ward.

Why are there two aldermen seats open in the first ward and Alderman Radke allowed to be a at large alderman when there is a election in the ward he is presently living in?

It does not take a overabundance of political knowledge to realize that if those in power thought Radke could win a election against Alderman Mayszak thereby eliminating her from the council he would be running for the office rather than accepting a appointment.

Alderman Radke knows he would lose against the Alderwoman so I guess he would rather cost us tax payers $10,000.00 over the next two years by adding a 9th Alderman. Having Nine Aldermen on the council is a joke!
Just a guaranteed YES man for Harl.
They are too arrogant to realize Harls days are numbered.

Nine Aldermen would be a joke!

Who is Mike Hart?

Mr Hart was on the infrastructure committee but turned out not to be a follower but a leader within the group.
He is retired from IDOT and is a resident of the 2nd ward.

Radtke should do what's right for the city and run for the open seat. I'll lose all respect for Radtke if he forces the city with nine aldermen and the added expense.
If he loses against Mayzak the Mayor can place him on either Library or Park Board.

I'm voting for the Mike's!!

Hart and Sapienza!!

11:50 You will soon know who Mike Hart is because he will be Peru's next mayor!!

The Super Committee failed, who was the leader?

Anonymous said...

Why all the interest in the township positions - they would like to have the salaries they protested about so much.

mike hart be tough to beat harl

Is this a new team in the making? Put up the big signs and drive the big trucks around town. Will the slogan be Time For a Change? This sounds too similiar to the last campaign.

1:26 It was Mayor Harl.

The main problem with the Township is with the Commissioner. No one running for that position??
Looks like Vickrey will be in the unemployment line Afterall.

Now that Mr. Mclaughlin has his house on the market (again) who knows if he is running for commissioner. Who else is running against Vickrey besides Mr. Nelson?

2:02 Are you saying because people on the blog supported Harl in the past election, he is now Mayor for life? Get the hell out of high school. This is the real world. If you choose someone, then find out they can't do it, you seek out a new candidate. Then you support them as much as you can.

I never understand people who have that need to say, " well you voted him in, so stop complaining."

I backed Harl last time --- and let me say IT WAS THE LAST TIME!

The Harl Era "IT WAS THE LAST TIME" has a real country western twang to it. Every body dance to "IT WAS THE LAST TIME" sung by the Marryin' Mare.

Main prob is the supervisor. Not the commish. Not even close.

seems to me 6:19 the supervisor is the only one trying to change things. what do you perceive the problems to be!

Anonymous said...

Yea 6:19!!! Supervisor is the only one trying to change things. Don't you realize that's how politics work? Act like you care a few months out from your election. Out of a four year term they bust ass for 3 months prior to their election.
Sorry, but we are all onto those games. Politicians make that strategy to obvious. We will all see this clearly with the Peru election. Watch and you'll see recent changes in behavior.

I believe the odds are strongly in favor of the incumbent in this election. I wish it were not true.

Many who read this blog simply re in force each others opinions, but there is not any organized PAC bringing the issues to the general public.

Correction I signed a petition for Nelson for Township supervisor who is circulating a graph showing salary increase through the roof from the Township. Reach out to him to sign his petition!

Anonymous said...

and what would nelson do different or does he just want the money? how quickly they forget the harl lesson that just because it is a different name you aren't neccessarily getting something better.

Travis said...

I believe in cutting high salaries for elected officials, cutting wasteful spending, and removing costly medical benefits to township elected officials. If your interested in signing my petition please contact me at travisgnelson@hotmail.com

Is it so bad that the attitude taken today is that you can't get something worse?

Anonymous said...

you cant cut your own salary

Anonymous said...

dont believe u cant cut your own salary

Anonymous said...

cant cut any of that i believe

Anonymous said...

I would be leery of voting for someone who is clueless as to the position they are running for and who claims they will do this and that because there is more to getting things done than just saying you will do it.

Some people who want to cut payroll donate a portion of theirs back to the office and can change to have it officially reduced but won't ale effect untill the next term. For example Harl can reduce the pay for alderman and himself but it won't take effect untill the after the next election. And then whoever wins has to live with it.

Didn't the township elected officials just vote in another huge pay raise?

Anonymous said...

dont believe it was huge over exaggerating

you questions "Is it so bad"? I believe if it is bad in anyway, it is time to bring in someone else who might just make a little bit better which is better a little bit bad.

Nelson isnt the answer

Did you forget to complete your sentence as you comment is meaningless without more context.

Anonymous said...

Didn't the paper say they are the highest paid in the state? Yet they voted for a pay raise?

Anonymous said...

nope

Anonymous said...

3:16 makes perfect sense to me how much more context do you need?

Time to bring in Abbot and Costello with "Who's on First".
