Peru pickleball clamor still in play - LaSalle News Tribune - LaSalle, IL

Peru pickleball clamor still in play - LaSalle News Tribune - LaSalle, IL

The city of Peru continues running around in a circle about many of the projects that they have undertaken.
The Public Property Committee chaired by Ald. Ankiewicz was more of the same and his continued controversial statements. First he states that he does not want to take the problem of pickleball noise to Sunset Park and then he reverses himself and states "if there is a problem" because only a few number of people have voiced complaints. Evidently he has a horse in this race and I believe he should remove himself from the issue.

When brought up to the council meeting, Ald. Radtke tries to make light of the matter stating those residents had the opportunity to  clarify the issue previously back in May. Doesn't  he know that the residents live in the ward he represents and he should be part of the solution, not part of the problem.

How long have we been preparing the closed swimming pool for demolition? The asbestos was removed, the  equipment was sold.  Now all we needed was someone to haul away the debris and out of the blue, we now find out that Chamlin Engineering are the parties going out bids on the lead paint possibility? Why did we give this to the engineering firm instead of seeking bids on our own?

It is no wonder this city accomplishes nothing, even the video recording of the meetings is not of good quality.
On the bright side there are some very bright, intelligent people running for seats in our Peru government and I am sure you could contact any of them for their positions on anything of concern to you.

Does Peru use an environmental attorney, like Spring Valley does?

I thought we had the pool figured out long ago. Wasn't someone supposed to knock it down voluntarily and then we got a very reasonable price to have it hauled away? Lead in the paint has never been mentioned as a concern until this meeting.

Who is running and how do we contact them?

With a election in the near future how is it that a alderman at large seat is being appointed rather than elected? When was a alderman at large office created on the Peru City Council and was it established by vote of the citizens of Peru? Previously the council was in balance with a membership of eight and a tie vote decided by the tiebreaker, the Mayor. With a alderman at large the council will be out of balance and manpower costs will be increased with no evidence of improving efficiency.
Less than four years ago term limitations was a main thought during the elections by the present administration. Now it appears that this administration is creating thoughts of establishing life long ownership of these same seats. Possibly this is what was meant by "Change in 09" if so beware because it could be a very dangerous thing for Peru.

To 10:16 p.m. - You ask some pretty misleading questions.
I have only one question for you?
Could you possibly be any more "mis-informed"?
Well?

Anon 4:48 Mr. Hart is making himself available to meet. Possibly Lois could supply all of us with a means of personally meeting him and/or a phone number to speak to him. I am sure Mike would appreciate meeting you and having you sign his petition to run for Mayor.
Presently he is retired and his occupation had been working for the Illinois Department of Transportation. Anything further I feel should be supplied by Mike.
Mr. Hart does not appear to have the organizational restraints that Mayor Harl has and displays himself well as a independent, positive, well thought out thinker with a pleasing personality and good leadership skills.
H. Tom be assured that although they both start out in a similar way, Har-, there is more difference between the two than a L or a T.

Mayor Harl hopefully learned a lesson from this election. A message was sent and well delivered.
The amount of $$ thrown into a campaign isn't what wins an election. Being a people person, treating others with respect, and putting others first while being true to your word....... is what wins elections!
If any candidate follows the path of Vickrey and Harl they will learn the hard way.

I would put up a reputable, respected individual with little to no funds against Harl and Vickery any day.

"BEING A PEOPLE PERSON, TREATING OTHERS WITH RESPECT, AND PUTTING OTHERS FIRST WHILE BEING TRUE TO YOUR WORD" Well put 11:48. I feel that that is what makes a politician great.

Vote for HART with a T not a l.

Anon 7:42 AM When you state that a person is misinformed cite in particular what they are misinformed about i.e. do you believe that eight aldermen are inefficient and the council needs a total of nine to be efficient or that the additional cost of having nine aldermen is more cost efficient than having eight?
Has term limitations gone the way of certain personnel changes, out of town city engineer and SPW, city manager and the payment of a $43,000,000 debt or is this the earmark which the city is going to maintain in sacrifice so every dept head and asst. dept hd. can drive a new gas guzzler? How do you propose to pay this debt off if Peru does not maintain its present great sales tax base? As a matter of fact the city appears incapable of paying off its debts with its great sales tax base.

Anon 7:39 Shame on you! These are issues no incumbent wants brought up. Starts voters thinking about unfulfilled promises from the last election. Next the comment "There was more to be done than we thought. We need another four years to get it all done", and if that works four years from now "we'll need another four years" etc., etc. etc will be heard.
The vast amount of interest that K.M's blog created in the last mayors race and the political knowledge that is shown in the two present blogs will and should be a foundation of expressing and learning determining factors in the upcoming elections. Thankfully the blogs are cost free mediums of communication which anyone can express themselves freely and are accessible to all. By creating interest in a election they will also increase voter turnout.

I believe he becomes alderman at large because he was elected to a 4year term. He gets to legally complete that term but becomes "at large" because redistricting moved him from the ward he was elected to represent....not a difficult concept.

Anonymous said...

Anon 6:44 No your statement is not a difficult concept as many made up concepts are. Read the entire interpretation of the law not just the parts you want to apply.

Nobody is harder on this group of leaders than I am, but the analysis by 6:44 is accurate and I believe was confirmed by the attorney generals office. These situations arise occasionally when redistricting occurs. It is better to focus on the many examples of waste and malfeasance than to beat this dead horse.

9:39 The last comment from the attorney general's office regarding this topic reads "this is not an official opinion by the attorney general". Leaves room for thought doesn't it?

Anonymous said...

Anon 9:39 The law is the law and not what you believe, nor was this decision confirmed by the attorney generals office. Please refer to the posting of Nov. 8 2012.
This issue of a at large alderman is a example of waste and malfeasance.
You are entitled to your own opinion and entitled to your rights to express it but it is only your opinion not a law. This thoroughbred is still in the race.

Anon 9:39 You have aroused interest in the many examples of waste and malfeasance that you focus upon. Would you be kind enough to share them with the rest of us? Always willing to learn.

After redistricting all the aldermen should be on the ballot if they chose to run again, whether or not they have two more years or their term is up. That way it is fair to all involved, and also fair to the citizens they represent. Does anyone know if that would be a possibility?

Anonymous said...

Anon 11:22 Sure it is possibility but not a probability. Peru is a town in which the most important thing is who you are not whether it is right or wrong. If you want to know who is important in Peru check the color of the persons nose not what he knows. If the proposed alderman at large was the man that many thought he was you can bet he would have to run and win to keep the position of alderman.

Anonymous said...

10:06 Are you serious? Read the blog for the past six months if you would like some examples of waste, malfeasance, poor judgement, environmental mistakes and general abuse of public trust.

As far as the official designation " opinion of the attorney general" , those are collected and available online. The AG responds to many inquiries unofficially, but if push comes to shove, I would not want to be betting against their written reply. I believe that caveat is a standard disclaimer line added to the bottom of their initial written replies.

I am not saying the alderman should not honorably make a different choice and run or resign, only saying I personally do not think it's a battle worth fighting to try and get him out. All the effort should be put into removing Harl, then you might see some voluntary resignations.

Anon 5:14 Finally the truth comes out all of this just to get you to admit that you dislike Mayor Harl.

I have nothing against Mr. Harl personally. I believe he has overseen a negligent , corrupt, dangerous and isolated administration. I review the evidence presented and draw that conclusion. He must be removed from office in the next election. After that, I wish him nothing but the best.
