2012 Girls Tennis Players of the Year (WITH VIDEO) - LaSalle News Tribune - LaSalle, IL
Not sure but possibly the Gunther family may have roots going back to Peru, if they are the ones I went to school with, anyway it is nice to see that Ottawa continues to promote tennis.

Lois, your right Ottawa does promote tennis.
You also don’t hear resident’s of Ottawa say they want to charge Marquette High School to play tennis in Ottawa.
Ottawa resident’s don’t suggest local sponsors of tennis tournaments pay to use the Ottawa courts either.

Robert & Judy Quick from Peru however suggested Peru should charge St. Bede Academy and I.V.C.H to use the courts at Washington.

If Mr. & Mrs. Quick are part of any group to suggest change in Peru, residents of Peru will further embarrassed by the Quick’s ridiculous suggestions.

As a supporter of all school sporting events I was not the only person offended that Peru residents would ever consider such a stupid suggestion. Lois, thanks for posting the video, though quite embarrassing for some residents of Peru.

I posted that because we have been hearing from Mr and Mrs Grabowski that tennis is a dying sport. The was the reason they used for establishing pickleball.

Lois you are writing about Pickleball again disguised as a tennis article?
That’s right in the beginning it was about you saving the tennis court for all your tennis friends.
Oh but that didn’t gather much support so it was about people had to buy racquet and balls.
Oh but that didn’t gather much sympathy so it was about the children crossing Rt. 251 to play tennis.
Oh but that didn’t gather much support so it became about a advertising bicycle.
Oh but that didn’t gather much support so it became “It’s not about Pickleball it’s about the  noise it produces.
Oh, finally you found a real concern.
Lois, here is your real problem:
Peru residents are coming together and enjoying themselves in a Public Park and it all happened while you fought it with one stupid reason after another and it still became a success.
Peru Officials, neighbors, and players will come together and solve this question: Is the sport worth spending money for a permanent court in Peru?

All the time you will do your best to pit resident against resident and mock and bully anyone who enters the conversation.
Congratulations on a losing tactic and good luck to those candidates for office who choose to align themselves with your pathetic methods.

I suggest you get your facts straight because your post is so incorrect, I actually found myself laughing at it and I would imagine that the neighbors are also having a good laugh.
You have no clue why I posted it and I have talked to people who do understand that a former Peru resident is probably family to one of the girls. To the people that pick up on that, hope you enjoy the article.

I was going to write a point by point rebuttal to your post, since it is beyond illogical. But I thought I would keep it simple.

Location is unacceptable for the activity under Illinois Noise Polution Regs, db recordings have shown that clearly. Location is worse than any other litigated pickleball case in nation. Decision was made in documented violation of OMA and admitted on public record. I don't need your support or any other members of the pickleball cabal, only the sitting judge. Oh yes, and my retainer. But I have already considered waiving that.

I am tired of talking about it. I am waiting on the neighbors to say they are ready to take this to its logical conclusion, but they remain steadfast in their belief that a compromise will be reached. Timing is everything.

Tennis players everywhere plead with you people not to represent us in your fight with the Pickle Crew. Your suggestions on charging people are embarrassing along with your lame reasons against the Pickle sport.
You probably don't even play tennis so keep our sport alone, your killing us here!!!!!!!  Especially the Catholic players!!!!

Our children all played tennis in high school and some still do, is that OK in your book? One even subscribes to the tennis channel, another travels out of state to watch tournaments. Is that ok?

Pickleball, Pickleball, Pickleball. Is this Harl's defense so no one talks about the important things? GET ON WITH REALITY, THESE PICKLEBALL JOKERS ARE A FRONT AND A BUNCH OF LOOSERS.

Whoever you are that is defending tennis and attacking Lois, Mr. Quick and the neighbors you have your facts all wrong. We are fighting to get back the tennis court that the pickle ball ambassador took away from our local kids. Get your facts straight before you attack the wrong people.

4:36 If you are indeed sincere in your postings I believe those against pickle ball are about at their wits end and ready to pursue the option you suggest. If you're interested get in touch with them.

Have you noticed IVCH charges fees for everything including their tennis tournament ? IVCC RENTED it's track. LP cuts grass and does the maintenance on Peru's diamonds during the season. And by the way, religion has nothing to do with St Bede. They just happen to be in BUREAU COUNTY.

Thank you. I will contact them soon ,as my schedule permits. If they choose to move forward, I believe they have taken a long time to come to the proper decision, but they really have exhausted every other option. No other towns where legal action was taken had such patient plaintiffs.

Seriously, to the people that live around 28th street park! You live next to a Park!!!!! When you live next to a park, expect noise! A couple of years ago, you complained about kids playing baseball. Here an eye opener. A lot of people don't go to parks to watch the grass grow! If you love tennis so much, then get in your car and drive to Washington park or sunset. Is that really that hard? To be honest, some or the people complaining look like they have never picked up any type of racket in their live. Much less ever played any type of sport! Grow up! You can't control everything. Having pickle ball in Peru is really not hurting anyone.

All Tennis Players see you all for what you are. Retired, Bored, Too much time on your hands, and what you really want is a back yard with absolutely NO ACTIVITY.  We are asking you to stop using Tennis Players as your pawns. We don't need Robert Quick making up these ridiculous suggestions that Peru charge St. Bede and I.V.C.H. For playing the sport we love and SHARE WITH OTHERS with in our community.

To the so called Attorney writing in. This case has not gone forward because it will be thrown out on the first hearing.

I have a job and I am not bored and neither are the Quicks or the neighbors. With your attitude, I feel sorry for your neighbors and/or anyone that works with you. Your atittude speaks volumes and I would guess you are one of the infamous pickleball players. Quite an atitude you all seem to have.!

7:17 You have no idea what you're talking about. I hate when people stick in their 2 cents worth and have no clue as to what's going on. For your information there was 1 man complaining about the kids playing baseball and the other neighbors fought for the kids. Can you figure out who won that battle? Obviously not the neighbors (plural) who fought for the kids (plural) but the business owner (1 individual). The kids played tennis. They are not playing pickle ball. Read up on it. It is a game basically played and enjoyed in retirement villages.

9:31 If you love tennis so much why are you not fighting to get the tennis court back at 28th street park? Why are you defending pickle ball which eliminated the sport that you claim you love? You don't make any sense!!!!

9:31 Maybe you had better check double check your information on court cases regarding pickle ball. We are in close contact with several locations that still have cases in court pending decisions.

St. Bede tennis players and parents recently found out that a LP teacher, Bob Quick is suggesting St. Bede pay to use the courts at Washington Park.  Now we are realizing we are pawns in a dispute over the Public Park on 28th St. In Peru.

Jill Bernal, are you serious? Why would you allow your friends at St. Bede become involved in your dispute in the park you live next too? We are disappointed with your decision and ask you to keep St. Bede out of your dispute with the City. You know full well St. Bede does not have the resources to build tennis courts. You are putting us at odds with the city of Peru. Your children have all graduated but St. Bede does not need to be involved in your dispute.

The neighbors of the 28th St Park and myself included are not making this an issue and it was not intentionally thrown into the mix. BTW, I have a daughter who is a graduate of St. Bede.
This has reached this point because the elected officials of Peru have allowed this to happen. The Recreation Commission illegally established this court and the city paid no attention. The issues began to develop about its location and the city did nothing. This decision was perpetuated by the Rec. Board because of undue influence by family and in some cases friends of family who sit on the board.
This problem is where it is and will remain unsolved until one of 2 things happen.
1. It ends up a legal issue and is resolved in courtroom.
2. Peru city officials open their eyes and see the effect of the continued turning away from the problem. Ignoring it will not solve it. Alderman Mayszak is the only one who realizes there is a problem, the rest have chosen to be silent or sometimes to say there is nothing they can do.

To:  7:55 PM. (Bob Quick)
St. Bede is in Bureau County as you stated in the video and in tour comment today?
I am however a resident of Peru and my parents of Peru pay taxes in Peru. Who are you to suggest I can't play tennis at Washington Park without paying a fee?
What is your motive? Are we ruining the courts in some way?

When Mr. Quick made that suggestion, it was during a discussion of different ideas being thrown around on how to make pickle ball work in another area besides 28th Street Park. I believe it was an idea of a way of making money to be able to afford to add a pickle ball court onto the courts at Washington Park. It was just an idea. I never want anybody to feel like they cannot bring a new idea to me, or that I will not listen or think it is dumb. I like listening to people give their ideas about things. Everybody has an idea and should be able to share it without being made to feel bad. Jill Bernal never agreed with Mr. Quick's suggestion. Whether we agree or disagree with somebody's idea, we should not make them feel bad for voicing their opinion.

I repeat that no one has said that any resident of Peru cannot play tennis at Washington Park. But you can no longer play at the 28 th St. Park which has been taken over by older people who wish to play pickleball. Many have been working for you and others to be able to play tennis at any of the Peru parks that have courts. Those who play tennis and those who play pickleball should be able to use the courts, the same courts for their intended purpose.
I believe the intended comment by a Peru resident was that St. Bede of Bureau Cty should not be able to take over the Peru city courts for any purpose while denying Peru residents the use of those same courts at that time.

I think it's an absolute shame that people cannot voice their opinions without being attacked by people who probably don't even have a clue as to the entire situation in question. This is just another indication of the problems that continue to exist because of a game that was introduced in a deceptive way. What I don't understand is why tennis players are commenting against the very citizens who want the tennis court re-established at 28th street park.

Hasn't the improper and illegal location of the pickle ball court caused enough animosity that the pickle ball court should be shut down and the finances needed to convert it back to a tennis court taken from the Park Boards annual fund of $75,000/yeear?
The simple fix is to move it away from established neighborhoods and into a park without already built homes. Guess what? There is a park in town that is already up and going with plenty of land for pickle bll courts. Vereans Park.
It is now time for Mayor Harl to speak up, back Ald. Mayszak and take leadership of this fiasco.
If he refuses to intervene it appears that Ald. Ank has the power of the position of Mayor and Mayor Harl has the title only.

12:38 Back in May when I heard they were converting the tennis courts to pickleball, I attended the city council meeting and tried to convince them to keep it tennis. At the time I had no idea the noise this game created. If you listen carefully to the video you will not once hear me say anything about charging St. Bede to use the courts. I would hope before you make those accusations you would know the the truth. I was fighting to keep the tennis courts for the kids. Just like I fought for the baseball years ago. I in no way shape or form involved St. Bede with the city. Feel free to call me with any other questions you have regarding this situation. Thank You, Jill Bernal 223-9429

To those who accuse me of complaining about living by a park, you couldn't be more off base. For 23 years I never once complained about any noise coming from the park until the pickle ball crew moved in. As a matter of fact I even went to the meeting and to my aldermen to support the kids when baseball was being threatened to be taken away from them. Learn the truth and get your facts straight before you post a comment anonymously.
