Where are the numbers and how were the scant statistics that were presented validated? 20 local ambassadors keep being mentioned. I have heard of no other ambassador than Mr. Grabowski. I believe he also mentions the ambassadors will continue to schedule a group lesson for 6 players or more new players. How do we know that this has been the norm? I have heard that the rec board would not believe several neighbors of the park regarding the number of people who used to play tennis in the park. Yet, they took Mr. Grabowski's word as gospel? Would it have anything to do with the connection with a board member and her husband? Something smells rotten in Denmark me thinks!

So a core group of 20 outweighs the neighbors, with 100 new inductees. And Sunday afternoon is the most popular. Nice quiet Sunday afternoon.

Most reports at least reference some negatives, or issues. But not when you are POSITIVE in PERU.

The long term residents of the 28th street park have presented the problem as a situation in which they have no problem with pickle ball but do have a problem with the particular location in which pickle ball has been sited.
The Rec. Bd. as well as several Aldermen fail to realize the problem and give no thought to the presentation and to establishing any ideas to alleviate the problem.
The Rec. Bd. should perform the duties for which they are appointed for and Aldermen should perform the duties for which they are elected for neither being to enter the city into private enterprise.
Both groups have enough on their plate i.e. pickle ball, fireworks, swimming pool, business intersections, play ground equipment etc. that they do not need to endeavor into learning music promotions on city time and city expense. They also have no authority to include another non elected individual into Peru government payroll - a private business promoter.
Presently Peru is going to have one more aldermen on the payroll than needed because he refuses to leave the council and refuses to run in the next election for office. The Peru City Council is established for eight aldermen not nine so that the Mayor can be the tie breaking vote. After the next election Peru will have a alderman at large being the tie breaking vote and drawing a pay check from the city.

The OMG moment from Tues. night's rec meeting came when a 28th street neighbor asked Mr. Harman, the president, why they couldn't move pickle ball to another park next year? His response was "do you want to expose other residents to this noise"? This statement by Mr. Hartman validates the concerns that the the 28th street neighbors have been expressing since the game started - THE NOISE!

OMG moment was a joke to stir the crowd. No need to shout conspiracy. No need to cry fowl with statistics. The Board is doing their community service.

People are teed off because they introduced pickleball at the tennis courts so they complain the noise is the culprit. But, how about when kids are playing softball or football or just horsing around. Don't they make a lot of noise? I was a noisy kid so I should know. Why don't the neighbors take up playing pickleball and the whole situation will disappear.

And pray tell 11:35 what community service have they accomplished besides upsetting citizens and causing a stir when it comes to the fireworks?

Ounce again, the residents stated there problem is not pickle ball but with the location of pickle ball in Peru. What part of this is so hard to understand?

From my recording.
After Jim's presentation, a neighbor of his asked a question about what he said and Jim's answer was I don't want to answer questions and B. Hartman backed him up. In other words the pickleball ambassador did not want to give any public opinion on this successful program. Doesn't make any sense to me as I thought he was the ambassador, the official promoter.
Now on community service, the committee said after one more "successful season" they would look into asking the city to build another court. (watching your money) In response to audience questions about finding another location, one of the board members said, they could maybe put up a sound barrier and when questioned on cost, he stated $8000. And you figure this one out, the present location is the best because of the seniors there. I guess there are no srs in other parts of Peru. While the truth of the matter is that more and I say many more live in areas south of Shooting Park Rd. and not anywhere near the Park. This is how this recreation board skews your questions and the truth for their own convenience. They seem to be assuming more power than what they were given by ordinance and should be put on probation with oversight by the MAYOR,

Lois: If Mr. Hartman didn't allow the ambassador to answer the questions then who did answer them and what qualifications did they have to answer? Were they present for every session? If not, how could they prove that the season was successful? Because the ambassador said so? Or because his wife said so?

I listened to the whole viedo. All I can say is its cut and dried, that Grabowski has a lot of in with the Rec. board, including his wife,AND THE REC BOARD HAS A BUNCH OF STUPID PEOPLE ON IT.
THE PICKLEBALL COURT SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN, AND I LIVE SOUTH OF SHOOTING PARK ROAD.

I agree with 5:38 Oct. 10th. The report presented to the rec board proves NOTHING. Where are the facts, the numbers, the statistics? Who should have answered or was more qualified to answer pickle ball questions than the AMBASSADOR of the game? Are any of the board members 1 of the 20 local ambassadors that are repeatedly mentioned? If so, CONFLICT OF INTEREST? Oh no, that's right! This committee doesn't have to abide the Robert's Rules or the OMA.

I've played pickleball at the 28th street park a few times, so I monitor this blog as a source of amusement. While I dislike obnoxious noises as much as the nexy guy, I think it is absolutely absurd that such a big deal is being made over a game that is played a few hours each week. To the complainers- you live by a park. Accept the fact that noise and commotion will occur in a public gathering place. I don't love the noise of cars driving on the road by my house, but I deal with it because I'm not irrational and selfish enough to make a big stink. If you truly dispise the noise that much, just close your windows and do something other than brood. Then again, you could always keep blogging and entertaining me :)

A new mayor and a few new aldermen and the Recreation Board days are over, well at least members with more than 5 years of service.

7:05 I am always so pleased to find another brilliant lurked, reading the blogs for his/her amusement who has decided it is time to share their view on what people SHOULD do in their homes, what they SHOULD tolerate, and above all has reviewed the db studies and knows all about the times and duration of the noise. Have you studied the cases from other cities as well, taken the measurements, paid the attorneys as well? Sounds like this amusement is an expensive and time consuming hobby for you.
Your analogy of the road is a great one. I suppose you have never heard of citizens fighting when a road is widened or designated for massive increase in traffic, fighting to get sound barriers. Why can't they just close their windows. They are by a road for Gods sake.

The strangest thing is that there are rubes like you who say just close the window or join in the game. I knew a guy in a frat house wdid said the same thing to his neighbors. I'd let you talk to him but he might disagree with you now. See , he actually grew up.

The neighbors should have fought like hell when those courts were first put there for tennis in my opinion. They are too damn close. And now they gonna have to fight like hell to get rid of the pickleball phenomenon.

7:59 Appreciate your concern and apparent support to those of us who have to listen to this game time and time again. You're right when you state that we should have fought like hell when the court was first put in and then when it was changed to pickleball but what you might be interested in knowing is that in both cases we were denied any information that these changes were going to happen in this park. As a matter of fact the tennis court was petitioned to be located in the northeast corner of the park. How and when it was changed to its' present location we don't know. We woke up one morning to the sound of it being dug up. As far as pickleball we heard nothing about it becoming a permanent set up in our tennis court until it was a done deal. No survey was taken. No one talked to us about it. No one even acknowledged our living so close to this court. It was a cut and dry decision made by a board that includes the wife of the pickleball initiator.

Just remember the Aldermen who have remained silent on this issue since its conception. Remember the Mayor who has not uttered one word. Remember all of this when you are in the voting booth next spring. Do not forget that other than Alderman Mayzak all have remained silent and have not represented the people that voted for them the first time.

5:38 Did you notice on the video when the ambassador was asked about the numbers by President Hartman he immediately said he would prefer to just read his report. He never answered the presidents question and the president did not press him for the answer.

11:35 This is no joke. And if it was why didn't the president say he was joking. He was serious, dead serious. Which leads me to believe there must be individuals that live around the other parks in Peru that are telling him, do not even consider putting that in our neighborhood.
