I am really concerned as all people who live in the Illinois valley should be as to what the valley will be like in five to ten years as far as unemployment and to where all the small businesses will be. There are so many young adults who are already leaving the Illinois valley to pursue their careers elsewhere. Hopefully Lasalle-Peru won't be a Sterling-Rock Falls in 5-10 years. Sad, but the possibility is there.

Very sad. Unemployment in this area wouldn't be so high if business owners took it upon themselves to conduct their business legally. By doing this, unemployment wouldn't be so high.

This is a subject which has been staring our area in the face for years. When you have a constant high rate of unemployment nothing good comes out of it.
People don't move to the area, people leave the area, and those that have left the area don't come back to the area.
We all know the answer to lowering the rate of unempoyment-JOBS.The suggestion that illegals holding jobs that the present unemployed would be occupying is also true.
Before I express my thoughts I would like to know what the three candidates for Mayor believe would be good ideas on the growth of jobs in Peru and how they propose to accomplish this growth.

1:31 comment.. false. Your statement doesn't even make sense.

Bloggers blog 1:31 put it in a nice way . 3:56, maybe read beteen the lines. I did. If all employees were on businesses books unemployment everywhere might not be so high.

Whether or not they are on the books, they would still technically be employed. If they are off the books and collecting a cash paycheck then the unemployment figures are artificially high

No sense is right. Look around, do some checking, and I believe you will find that most of the unemployeed are union people who could not get enough. I am not saying ALL are that way. There are many who were happy with their jobs, it is only the few loudmouth lazy troublemakers who run business out of the area. As a result of this good hardworking people have to suffer and pay the penalty. Such a shame this area suffers from union strong and deteriorates like it does.

To All : your concerns about jobs are VERY VALID.

Yet , you would be among the folks that would support Mayor Harl for reelection as HE DRIVES JOBS OUT OF THE AREA with high electric rates, & higher taxes, and higher debt for the city.

I ASK THEN, WHY ?, WOULD YOU OR ANYONE SUPPORT HARL for mayor?

Let's vote for our city not the current corruption !

It upsets me that politicians will sit back and brag about bringing jobs to the area when a cheap retail store or fast food chain comes to town. I wouldn't be so proud to bring minimum wage jobs to town that actually create more of a burden to the social support system than already exists. A real leader will bring jobs to town that can support a family.

what we need are people in office who WANT to bring jobs to the area instead of unionizing what we have and driving them away.

On April 9th you should remember who brought us the large industrial employers on the north end of Peru. You should also remember who is currently trying his hardest to run them out of town.

Baker is too old and Harl is no good!
