Why hasn't this pole been repaired?

4:41 PM posted under Does Peru Have the Money to Repair This Playground?
I found the damage to the light pole on 4th and Peoria and it does look like it is something done some time back. The poster said one year at 4th and Peoria Street

I am a big fan of pole dancing. Please repair the pole before someone gets hurt.

Lets take this to the FBI lab. It looks to be older by the rust and wear. But possibly overused and not functioning properly. Definitely was not involved in a car accident in the last few weeks. If a child would bite the switch, we may have a problem. Could have been hit by a large truck. Was a traffic study completed? I am sure all can be solved with a touch of black paint and a few minutes of repair.

Anon 11:23 The dent and bending of the pole was done more than a year ago when a vehicle drove into it. The switch has been dangling by the wire since the time of the accident.
From the attitude you have displayed by your comment this is acceptable for you and the type of town you want to live in. I don't find anything funny about having to grab hold of the switch to create a base to push the button. You, the child and many loved ones could have a problem with this switch not being anchored to the pole because if switch is not activated and someone is hit crossing the street there could be a very serious injury or a fatality. If this was to occur would you still be so smart alecky on your way to the FBI?
Since when does a traffic study have to be completed to repair a pedestrian walk-stop switch?
To save you the time of commenting again I'll ask your next question for you "Why repair it no one has got hurt on it yet"?
Many years ago Peru and LaSalle County operated their roads under your type of attitude and waited for a wreck to happen before anything was done. A perfect example was the intersection at Shooting Park Road and 251 everyone knew it should have been a four way stop with lights but it had to cost a lady her life to prove it and the lights to be installed.
I pray that no one is hurt at this intersection or any other intersections similar to it. I never want to make fun of a condition where a child, a elderly person nor anyone else could be injured but if someone was unfortunate enough to be hurt you know what they say about justice if it would happen to you 11:23AM.
To all others lets be considerate of one another and make Peru safety conscious and always a great town to raise a family in and live in.

Could someone from LaSalle slap one of their stickers on this pole because Peru is not keeping its house in order?

well you see this is actually a "lectrical" problem. So it belongs to the "Lectric Department." Since it is not in the Public Works box, all that can be done is file a form asking for help. PW could hire a "trician" to help with this I spose. Gota bring that up at the Union Beer Bust. I mean business meeting.

But seriously. At one time we had a real Mayor and all that would need to be done is for hime to say get it done.

Anon 11:23 When trying to be cute, comical, funny on line it must be realized that it is a communication medium which you do not know how it is going to come across and how the recipient is going how to take it.
The blog could be described as a "cool" medium and a face to face communication could be considered as "warm".
I as most others had to learn this and often times have to remind myself of it.

The Electric Dpt. hasn't been ignoring this issue. Power to the inlets have been cut off since the incident occurred and should all be repaired soon.

Thanks!
Rodney

Considering that this accident occurred one year ago plus which resulted to pole and intersection light switch damage a general statement such as the the electric dept. hasn't been ignoring this issue is embarrassing and insulting.
This answer to this safety problem has up man shipped the "work in progress" quote which was the previous winning quote for this administration.
There has been power to the switch because if the button was pressed the walk, do not walk light changed unless this has been a Act of God. A failure in a simple fix such as this incident should not be excused this lightly.
Everywhere you look- playground equipment, general park maintenance, power plant demolition, Westclox building fire, swimming pool sitting empty with no progress of demolition, etc. - there is evidence that things are not getting done.
Reaching into that big bag of excuses or buying a new box of band aids to cover up city failures is overbearing to the final financier, you and me the taxpayer. In consideration I do not need any straw ballots or door to door surveys to come to a conclusion on the above. Would appreciate this time being donated to the conclusion of known existing problems and some evidence of what is being done with the taxes the city receives. I like many others am starting to wonder why I pay taxes.

Why should these city departments do any work? Harl could care less if city employee's are working or doing their job. He doesn't even know where every park in the town is! He's never in the town to notice the damage that goes unrepaired or the city workers doing nothing! Mayor Baker is still riding around and checking our our town. Harl is a waste and needs to go! These city employees never worry about getting caught doing nothing or stealing time or city resources because the supervisors are at home and the mayor is never around . Noone is driving the ship and noone is in the passenger seat watching either. All the goons are below deck horsing around.

As a money raiser for the Mayors War chest Peru should have a Automobile Show in the city hall parking lot. People could get a view of the luxurious SUV's the department heads drive around in at the taxpayers expense. Next to the sticker price should be a MPG quote for each vehicle.

7:04 I agree with you totally. Every city employee who has a vehicle paid for with our tax dollar drives a gas guzzling SUV or truck. Maybe that's why our park playground equipment that our children use is in the sad shape of disrepair as witnessed in the photos above that Lois provided. Maybe that's why the city can't afford a swimming pool or a splash pad (again for our youth). Priorities do not seem to be of importance to this administration.

Anonymous said...

Let everyone be fair on these "gas guzzling" accusations. To settle the issue, Lois, would you accept a statement from the city clerk or the mayor if they will submit the make, model & year of the vehicle that the city has given to the Police Chief, Fire Chief, Asst. Fire Chief, Superintendent of Public works and the miles per gallon for each. Also any other vehicles the city supplies its employees with. It should be remembered that the city pays for gas for these vehicles from port to port and all upkeep. If anyone else has further requests please submit because every city meeting that I have been to in the last 3 1/2 years there is nowhere to cut expenses.

Remember that the waste of city gas by superintendents in city vehicles and using city vehicles for personal use and going on vacation in city vehicles was reported to the mayor several times over the last year. The mayor and city hall and even the police department say they are allowed to use the city vehicles as they want. A vocal citizen even filled a police report on the electrical superintendent towing his personal trailer with the city vehicle and even got pictures to the mayor and the mayor did nothing! Unless they are an emergency responded they do not need a city vehicle to take home and do as they wish with. That would save the city $10,000's of dollars a month! And of course they aren't marked so they can travel outside of town and not raise an eyebrow! Sickening the wasted money and favoritism that goes on.

It makes no difference. This is a very small price to pay to further the labor movement. Union brothers and sisters, do not listen to this slander. His Honer is furthering the cause of Labor - that is all that really matters. These so called "tax payers" who think they have anyhthing to say don't understand that they must PAY THEIR SHARE to support the great cause of LABOR!

Anonymous said...

Anon 3:40 You refer to the Electrical Superintendent. Peru does not have a electrical superintendent. The title of the job is electrical supervisor because the person on the job did not want to give up certain benefits that he would lose if he took the superintendents position.

Anonymous said...

Anon 3:18 How about including the electric supervisors vehicle to the list. Speakingof lists where is the list that the Mayor refered the Ottawa newspaper to call the city clerk about. I thought each town was by law obligated to publish wages, benefits etc. of everyone who makes more than $75,000/year. why hasn't Peru done this yet?

To All: The pedestrian Walk Stop switch has been replaced and attached to the pole. What took the administration and various dept heads over a year to accomplish the blog gets done in less than a week. Congratulations all involved now onto the next mission.

Anonymous said...

and it was done on overtime.

Anonymous said...

Don't forget the building inspector. He also has an SUV. Does anyone know what happened to his old SUV? It sat at city hall for quite some time and now it's gone.

Anonymous said...

The old bldg inspectors vehicle is being used by the rec. Committee president.

Mr Hartman is the Rec Com President, is that who you are referring to? Is he also a city employee?

Anonymous said...

6:30 Are you serious? Why in the world would he need a city paid vehicle? Someone, please verify or deny this statement!!

Anonymous said...

Well it must be true, otherwise if I was the Rec Commission President I would be on this blog immediately denying that accusation. But then again maybe he purchased it from the city.

7:13 Do you expect him to research the perfect pickleball pavilions throughout Gotham riding a golf cart? Next you will be suggesting someone drag a sign around on a bicycle to promote all the positives in the Kindom of Harl! If we are to put Peru on the Map, we cant leave it all to our ministry of music and pizza. We need to present a leader of the planet, er valley, image and you can't do that in one of your commie Yugos or Japanese butt cramping mini cars. Why would they call them Sports Utility Vehicles if the leader of sports in Peru was not supposed to Utilize the Vehicle? Must I explain everything to you people? Any questions, put em on the cards.

Anonymous said...

8:57 Yeah right. He purchased it from the city. For the proverbial $1 we seem to sell things for? That vehicle sat in the city hall parking lot without a "For Sale" sign on it for quite some time. He is not a city worker he is an appointed individual to a committee.

Peru has turned into a bad episode of the Flintstones Cartoon

Fred Flintstone-Scot Harl (qualified to operate a crane/dinosaur but not a City)
Barney-Doug Beiderstedt Fred's partner in destruction of Bedrock/Peru
Whole cast of characters for mens only "Royal Order of Water Buffalos"
Dino-Doug Schweickert b/c he wouldn't exist in THIS series without Fred
Bam-Bamm-anyone from Chamlin because they get anything they want from the City
Arnold-Alderman Potthoff b/c he outsmarts Fred and Barney
The Great Gazoo-Alderman Perez or Alderwoman Mayszak...many "elders" in the "stone-age" look at these two like they are alien for taking a stance on issues to improve Bedrock.

Ya ba da ba do this is Peru!
