Peru Mayoral Candidate Scott Harl

Peru Mayoral Candidate Scott Harl
How soon they forget what they promised

Times change. He said what he had to in order to get elected. That’s OK. As far as I’m concerned the only promise he has to keep is to be a “Friend of Labor.” His Honor can do anything he wants to as long as he remains true blue to the unions.

"There once was a union maid, she never was afraid
Of goons and ginks and company finks and the deputy sheriffs who made the raid.

She went to the union hall when a meeting it was called,
And when the Legion boys come 'round
She always stood her ground.

Oh, you can't scare me, I'm sticking to the union,
I'm sticking to the union, I'm sticking to the union.

Oh, you can't scare me, I'm sticking to the union,
I'm sticking to the union 'til the day I die.

This union maid was wise to the tricks of company spies,
She couldn't be fooled by a company stool, she'd always organize the guys.

She always got her way when she struck for better pay.
She'd show her card to the National Guard
And this is what she'd say

You gals who want to be free, just take a tip from me;
Get you a man who's a union man and join the ladies' auxiliary.
Married life ain't hard when you got a union card,
A union man has a happy life when he's got a union wife"

Wow, what a joke. Thanks for posting this Lois. #5 - He'll listen to the voice of the people. Hmmm, I wonder how the people at the meeting last night felt about that. He'll listen to the voice of the people only when they agree with him. He's acts like a dictator, and if he doesn't get his way, he acts like a 2 year old. This guy has GOT to go next April.

Encourage citizen involvement , I will listen to the people*

* As long as Citizen agrees with me, supports my personal buddies, does not believe in that silly open meetings act or FOIA, likes pickleball courts, let's me change roads like a Lego set, offers their comments on neat cards, hates good accounting practices, enjoys the creation of brownfields and eyesores, loves big trucks, and thinks big parties can put us on the map.

Always read the fine print before you vote.

Strong leadership will always draw strong reaction from those who sit safely on the sidelines with nothing constructive to offer.

The Mayor did not exhibit strong leadership and in voice and demeanor presented himself with bully tactics. Logic and reasoning were not present Communication skills are so important for anyone at the top level in any government. The Mayor forgot last night that we don't work for him, he works for us and can be removed if he does not live up to our expectations.

HARL SUCKS ! HIM AND HYLLA AND MOST OF THE CITY COUNCIL NEED TO GO ! THE NEXT MAYOR NEEDS TO CLEAN HOUSE AND WORK FOR THE PEOPLE INSTEAD OF FOR BEER AND PIZZA AND THEM SELVES !

Anonymous said...

Who else do we have to vote for? Anyone? Anyone?

8:38 wasn't that a quote from Stalin? But I am not comparing Harl to Stalin. Stalin was shorter and had a cute mustache. But a very Strong Leader. Strong Strong Strong, like bull.

Harl never did what he promised. He was a front for the UNION. He never stood up against the old boys club. Why now does he finally get a backbone and stand against people with a business? These are people that bring in tax money for Peru. I guess if it were union shops at 38th and Venture things would be going another way.

Anonymous said...

When does the election process begin? Does one have to take out a petition if they want to run for office?

Anonymous said...

Whoever knows how to remove Harl now, please either do it and get the ball rolling or post how to do it on here and maybe someone will step up and do it!

Anonymous said...

Let's remove Harl to show that we citizens of Peru are taking OUR town back! And show the next mayor they better watch their step! !
IMPEACH HARL !!!!

Anonymous said...

Harl does not know how to run a business or have any idea what it takes. If he did he would not have said what he did to those business owners and managers. All he ever did was sit in a crane, and wait for someone to tell him to pull a lever.

Anon 7:11 Sad to say that Harl was elected with the campaign slogan that the citizens were taking OUR town back! I would go on but it being Friday I don't want to ruin my weekend. I can personally guarantee you that Mayor Baker in forty four years of office never disappointed or let people down as hard as Harl has in his forty months in office. Possibly the best way to show the next mayor to watch his step is to take advise from Mayor Baker who had 16,060 days of experience as a successful Mayor and than to accumulate a brief history of Harls 1305 days in office. At the end of his first and final term in office Mayor Harl will have a tenure of 9.1% of longevity Of Mayor Baker. The next Mayor must be a person who realizes that longevity is a great measuring bar of success as is keeping that good old gang of mine who put me there the same good old gang of mine who is going to keep me there.

Pinch me or smack me before I hurt myself for what I'm about to say and admit.
Last year I loathed Alderman Perez because I felt he was personally attacking the CSO. Over the past year I along with many others felt he was Harls yes man, especially after we got word he was helping Harl at last years Golf Outing.
I see it different today for the fact I have watched these council meeting battles and controversies after each meeting. Harl does not know how to manage himself or people around him. He comes across as a union leading thug, no offense against unions in general just some of the thugs that operate as a union hard head.
Here it goes but I'm calling it as I see it, a year ago I could have spit on him. The City of Peru either needs Alderman Perez to run for Mayor, or a person with his people skills and demeanor. He doesn't care who he runs over in the process of doing what he says he's going to do. I laughed many times at things he said he was going to do, and by Golly if he wouldn't push and push to try and get something done. He loses every week on an issue and doesn't seem to give up or act as a sour grape. My opinion of him being Harls yes man was far wrong and anyone can see that Harl wants nothing to do with the guy. That's my thought on this whole thing. I'll shut up now and wait for the kicks.

You are very perceptive and thank you for your posting. I assure you that you are not alone in understanding what you see going on at city hall. Communication and effective communication is such an important part of being a city official. I did not know either Ald. Perez or Ald. Mayszak before they became aldermen but I see that they not only get it and they have what it takes to be an effective alderman and an effective leader. Now we just need more of them as council members and one to be our mayor.

Read today's Newstribune article that states no business hurt by the realignment of Utica's traffic! I tend to think that the Peru issue is way overblown. Somebody looking for their name in the headlines?

Anonymous said...

How can you compare the realignment in Utica to this intersection?

12:13 Congrats! You just won the annual most irrelevant blog post of the year ( quite an accomplishment on this blog lemme tell you). Your post was chosen for it's perfect combination of choosing a completely incomparable project and area, exquisite denial of collected data, and standard claim that any alderperson who represents his constituents is a glory seeker. For your prize, you will be awarded an honorary seat on the rec committee for life, your own set of 3x5 index cards pre printed with praise for the mayor, and an all expense paid trip to Peru's newest tourist attraction, Le Ruins de la Plant de Power. That includes all the mercury you can eat. And you thought this blog was worthless. Aren't you glad you stopped by?

The lesson to learn from those comments made by 1:14 is that traffic design may have or may not be responsible for any of those who claim that business is damaged by the improvements of the traffic flow. According to the article in the Newstribune it was not a factor for Utica business. I guess the proof would be to compare quarterly statements that would prove business losses. Hopefully those business owners will prove that business was lost by the change of stripes. If that is attributed to the loss of business by all the business owners, then the Mayor would have no choice to re-visit the change. How quickly some have dismissed safety as a issue. It is now about loss of business? Most reasonable individuals will agree that safety has increased with the fact that traffic is off of 251.

1:14 - Hysterical! Love it! Thanks for posting, and for hitting the nail on the head!

I think I'll vote for whom ever isn't supported on this blog next time. But Lois you and steve were real strong supporters of Harl and tried to convince us how much better he was than Mayor Don Baker, well you both were wrong, but at least you have the courage to stay here and keep fighting for peru more than I can say for chicken s*** Steve, he seems like a phony just like Harl, but you probably already know that Lois. keep up the fight Lois you do better with steve.

2:09 how in the he'll is safety increased by minimizing wait and back up on a multi lane, divided and stoplight controlled intersection and transferring the risk to increased lot traffic, unsafe left turns to access business near the new design, and insufficient turning radius for emergency vehicles?
I cannot understand the IDOT recommendation not to return it to the much safer 4 way stop. Has anyone been able to get a FOIA of their rational. You could seal the south exit and go to a three way stop and still have northern mall access 200 yards away. I thought the point was to discourage , but not entirely prevent northern mall access and encourage use of the western boundary road. That would do that as well for those who shop at the mall and want to patronize the northern businesses afterward.

4:17 Those of us who supported and backed Mayor Harl did believe it was time for a 'CHANGE'. The problem we have to admit to today is that the change we got is not the change we were promised.

I believe the slogan was "Its Time."

You have to go to city hall and get documents if you want to run for office. I called County Clerk(our election authority) and I believe they said city hall should havve a packet of information

I will admit that I was one of many that wanted serious change during the last election. I wanted to see major house cleaning. I believed Harl and his promises. I hope he is reading this blog and realizes just how mad and disappointed his supporters are. He has not come through with one promise that he told me personally and I will not forget that at the next election. Remember, blogs "assisted" with the ousting of the last mayor and I hope it helps with new change at the next election. I am embarrassed to say I was seriously wrong in my previous choices. Lesson learned!

Anonymous said...

I'll say it again. As long as he supports the unions, increases the "prevailing wage," and takes work away from skabs, me and my brothers will support His Honer. That is the only promis that counts. He can say anything he wants to get elected. As long as we get ours, we will get the vote out for him. One way or another. Just like last time.

9:27 I have to agree with you. I was also a major supporter of Harl and all his bs tactics. I would like to see either a young person, female, or both run for mayor. The city of Peru needs someone who is a people person and actually has a sliver of common sense. April can't come soon enough.

YOU MAY TRY TO GET THE VOTE OUT FOR HIM BUT I KNOW THERE IS A LOT OF NON-UNION VOTES HE'S NOT GETTING THIS TIME.

Anon 3:30 There is a lot of union votes he's not getting this time.

To 4:17 p.m. - Mr. Weberski who happens to be my brother in law, regularly attends most council meetings.
How about you stop by city hall and share your cowardly thoughts and name-calling with Mr. Weberski in a "face to face" setting with him.

Ya. That's what I thought.

8:09 Where is his office at in City Hall?

That mayor Harl, I know that ALL politicians keep ALL their campaign promises, why isn't he like all the other elected officials?????
