The Union Rat Has Arrived In Downtown Peru

I have been informed by a local business that the Union Rat has arrived in front of the old Amcore bank which was recently purchased by an out of town investor. A local non union individual is working on the bank. I guess it is creating quite a stir right along U.S. Route 6 through Peru. Excuse me I thought we had a free country!

I heard there was a Union on the Titanic. They where re-arranging deck chairs as the ship sank.

I saw that too, Lois. Some things like that I can't help but to chuckle at

Silly comment “Excuse me I thought we had a free country!”
Yes we do have a free country. That is why one laborer continues to work on the building while another group of laborers let everyone know they disagree on non-union status of the working laborer and contractor.
Now everyone is informed and we all will make decisions who we will hire and what business we may or may not patronize.
Sounds like a free country to me. How about the rest of you?

Take the rat and give it a proper burial. If you wish to protest, walk with signs with your comments of disapproval. We are tired of seeing this rat. I heard it was attached to the wire fencing and it was asked that it be taken off of private property. And using the American flag as a cover is not appropriate either. Were not all the workers union or non union Americans?

Anon 5:52 Could you explain your statement in terms that someone who has no understanding of what is going on can understand the problem?

MORE POWER TO NON-UNION WORKERS!!! HOW DO YOU LIKE THAT HARL?

I do think using an inflatable rat tends to dumb down the union image, but I have less problem with that than the American flag usage. Nothing makes me more angry than Tea Party Ultra Conservatives or Unions or even extreme liberal groups claiming the flag, as if their United States is THE United States. So many extreme groups believe their version of what constitutes an American is the only one. The only real distinguishing characteristic of American society over many others is its fundamental directive of pluralism, tolerance, and inclusion. We are imperfect, but our history shows a great tradition of tolerating different opinions. Unfortunately, we seem to be losing the centrists and diplomats, lines are being drawn. The history of Illinois Valley union violence is not a source of pride for many union brothers and sisters. Tolerance has not been a union trademark around here.

I'm sure Harl is the one who called Marseiiles office and told them about the non union work being done.

Lois @ 5:40 pm
So good of you to announce what "we want".  So good of you to instruct us to "walk with signs" and thank you so much for the proper instructions about  of "the American Flag".
 Lois you are arrogant.
Lois, your opinions are more like lectures.
Lois your opinions are overwhelming negative toward, well "everything".
Lois, I now chose to delete you, your blog, and all memories of your negative comments toward, well  "every subject you comment on.

I find that many times, intelligence can seem arrogant to the perpetually ignorant, opinions can seem like lectures when they expose flaws that hit nerves, criticisms seem overwhelmingly negative when almost everything in a town is wrong, and individuals with rigid thinking often take their ball and go home when people point out the arrogance and narcissism of their own petty world view.

Right or wrong, Lois and the blog will be here tomorrow, as will many people who find some union tactics and activities disgusting. Good luck trying to find a small enough corner of the world where the unions are not criticized , 7:26

This may be a silly question, but why is the union not inflating the rat at the homes being built for Liberty Village by the same contractor?

7:26 Apparently your opinion differs from Lois's and that's your right. What's upsetting to me as a fellow blogger is that you criticize someone who has given you the opportunity to voice your side of an issue. A side that is extremely negative to her and yet she let you express your anger. And, you didn't even sign your name yet you used her name.

I have received your post and am in total agreement. It was withheld because you used the persons name in the post and not your own when your sent it in as anon. Perhaps rewrite with a substitution for the persons name.

What is sad with situations like this is, when business people would like to locate in this area and see this nonsense they turn away. The union members are the biggest hippocrites because when they need a driveway or roof, etc. they have nonunion workers do it for less money.

great to see the union pride out their- scabs cut corners-

9:11 Union pride? A fat bald man sitting on his butt next to giant rat ballon. Norma Rae he ain't.
Maybe the union shouldn't cut corners on who they send to represent.

I sure hope the building inspector approves every part of the job to make sure it is a quality and safe project. Are the buildings at Liberty still standing? I remember ready an article in the news trib years ago about all the problems they were having.

How many times do you go by a individuals home that is a working, card carrying union member who has a non-union worker employed?
How many times do you visit a Wal mart store and see it filled with people waring union jackets, ball caps or tee shirts?
Hypocritical?
There is no such thing as being a little union, in this manner of speech it is like being a little pregnant you either are you aren't.
How many times there have been union employees who carried two cards and illegally used both in the same day.
How many members of unions have only union made clothes, union made televisions, insurance from a union corporation, eat at restaurants which only sell union products, buy only union made house materials and lawn furniture etc. Most who believe they are hard core union members wouldn't know a union man if he was staring them in the face.
Yesterdays winner was the young lady who on her own and by herself stood up for what she believes in. Union or non-union it is people like her and Lois who are what America is all about. I also bet they honor the American Flag and never use it as a decoration.

THANK'S FOR SPEAKING UP ---- UNION'S HAVE WRECKED THE AREA AND COUNTRY!! COME BACK TO REALITY AND WORK FOR A LIVING AND PAY YOUR OWN EXPENSES INSTEAD OF EXPECTING A FREEBEE ALL OF THE TIME. STOP SUPPORTING THE BLOODSUCKING BA'S AND OTHER'S THAT BLEED YOUR PAYCHECK --- IF YOU ARE DOING YOUR JOB YOU WILL KEEP IT. THE BIGGEST UNION PUSHER'S ARE THE LAZY TIME KILLERS -- NOT THE EVERYDAY HARDWORKING INDIVIDUAL.
