Ottawa Fire Dept. moves up to paramedic level - LaSalle News Tribune - LaSalle, IL

Even if you don't read the article, be aware of what is taking place in surrounding cities as ultimately their actions have an impact on how we develop and grow or don't.

Does the Peru Fire Department have plans to do the same?

Are any PERU FIREMEN paramedics? And if so can they just have an ambulance to come help people. The volunteer ambulance people look out of shape and never tuck their shirts in...thats not somebody i want taking care of my family.

I believe maybe one or two might be paramedics and there was talk about an ambulance at the fire station. I understand what you are talking about with appearance.

Until we get some aldermen who are willing and I mean willing to get busy on EMT service for this city, nothing will get done. It will require new people with new ideas and doing what will be best for the city. Every time ambulance service comes up, there is nothing but squabbling each and every time. People are always being protected by the status quo and the aldermen current and past who are on the ambulance board.

There are no Peru Firemen that are Paramedic to my knowledge. There are several that are emt basic.
So if you're in a car accident and an ambulance person comes up to treat you and doesn't have their shirt tucked in your not going to accept their service?
Most of the time they come from home to answer the call. Have you ever wondered what the fireman wear under their gear? Drive by the station after a fire call and see how they respond to a call. Some are only in boxers. Ripped shirts even!
These emergency responders drop everything to help strangers and sometimes come from work or home and don't have time to dress up to save your *ss !!!

The firemen are on call. The ambulance people are on duty so why would they not be properly attired?

Some of those employees of the ambulance are huge! They don't tuck their shirts in. If they're on duty then why aren't they doing push ups and sit ups to stay fit? and maybe don't park your ambulance outside of the nearest fast food restaurant. Show some pride. Be a romodel and be in shape. Because if not that Tells the public they're not professional and that leads people to think they don't know what they're doing. I'll drive myself to the hospital, thanks. And Peru is a progressive town with a progressive department and chief I can't see our town waiting too much longer until they educate their fireman in para-medicine.

Please remember there is an ambulance board of directors that has Bob Ankiewicz, Dave Potthoff and former alderman Don Piano on it plus ambulance director Mark Roberson. To get anything done, this group of men have to agree to do it. we continue to fund them at $4000 per month. From the tax return, it appears revenue has gone down for them.

This link will take you to the website of Urban Institute national center for charitable statistics,(La Salle County) from there follow through on Peru Volunteer Ambulance Service and you will end up with there 2011 tax return.

Speaking of ambulances services looking unprofessional, take a look at Lasalle. Has anyone seen the junks they call ambulances? These things don't even belong on the road. Seems like once a week one is being towed to the the repair shop. It sounds like a crap shot if your going to make it to the hospital or not I'd you need one.

The Lasalle fire Chief has ran the Fire department into the ground but he does not care as long as he gets paid it is all about money going into his pocket.

What does lasalles fireman get paid per fire call! Lasalles fire chief? Asst.'fire chief? Compared to Peru's in each of those position???? Did Mayor
Grove appoint Lasalles Fire
Chief?

I went back and read the blogs from December 2011 about paramedic meeting tonight. After reading all those blogs under that title there was one that caught my attention. It was that Perus Fire Chief was giving classes on safety procedures to EMT's. because of too many claims. Is this true? Also, on many other blogs since Dec. 2011 questions of bloggers have arisen in regards to how many of Peru's fireman are EMT's?? Is fire chief king have his EMT certification? I was curious in order to teach safety procedures like he did in Dec. 2011 blogs that he would have to be certified as an EMT. How can we check on certifications. Another blog a while back someone blogged that maybe a couple if Peru fireman have a EMT cert.. How many exactly have that and who are they. We need facts! Because ambulance service in Peru in re-surfacing.

The Peru Fire Chief shouldn't need his EMT cert. He's a Chief of a Fire Department. On calls he is there to over see the safety of his crew. That doesn't mean he has to be an EMT. Your comment is way off topic. What were are talking about is if The Chief's fireman, who are on the front lines, are going to be paramedics and man an ambulance out of the station. In Peru we need paramedics who aren't the size of cars and who care about themselves before than can care for the residents of this town. We need REAL paramedics who have pride in their job and not be sitting in front of the KFC shoving fried food down their gullet. The county of LaSalle is ever growing and we need to catch up to these other towns who are offering top notch service to their residents. The fireman of Peru are great and we get what we pay for, there is no question there. We need fire based EMS in our town. Most of the volunteer ambulance people are great and serve this town with pride. Some of them are fat and over weight and can barely get out of the ambulance. We trust and have seen the firemen pull people out of fires...why shouldn't we trust them as paramedics.

So question for you. Annon at 11:53. Would that ambulance member that is "a car" be good enough for you when your near dead to work you as a full code? How about when your family member gets hit by a real car!? Or maybe you fall and break something? Or when someone knocks you out cause you over step your boundries and make crap out of firemen and ambulance workers???Clearly your judging people by thier cover. You proly arent that small yourself! These people on that ambulance service are here to help people. And if your seeing them at KFC than your in the wrong town! And btw QUIT STALKING! To the rest of you. If your sitting outside of the fire station at night watching guys come to the station in boxers.... YOU HAVE A PROBLEM!!!
