Not only interested in IDOT planning but also what progress has been made in recent years with Amtrac and its future of connecting Peru to Chicago?
The local elections only being months away, what plans have been made for Peru candidates to have public debates. It would be great to see a politically independent group or organization step forward and conduct a series of debates. Would the local radio station once again broadcast a debate and could they be telecast over Channel 13?
Would one of the local high schools or the junior college have a group of students who would be interested in participating? It is time to encourage local students to become involved in politics and give them hands on experience in local elections to develop our future leaders.
I'd love to see a panel of students with their visions of the future asking questions along with our questions. I believe the questions and answer session would be a wake up call for all of us, as would the debate session.
A characteristic of being young is that you want a direct truthful answer rather than being trained through age to be accepting of an answer in which the person talks around the subject and never answers the question. Youth strives for the truth, age thru experience accepts and refrains from embarrassing one to get to the truth. Maybe we ought to give the whole works to those under 25. (They certainly can't do any worse.)
Sound Absurd? Presently the end of social security and medicare only appear to be a short number of years away from being eliminated and if still in existence those who receive it are going to have to work longer than ever before.
Still Sound Absurd? The next generation is going to be the 1st generation in the history of our country to have less than their Mothers and Fathers.
Still Absurd? Our generation is the 1st generation of our country which will leave our debts for the future generations to pay for.

COME ON PEOPLE WAKE UP, SEE WHAT IS GOING ON AND PREPARE TO TAKE PART. THIS IS YOUR TOWN, YOUR COUNTRY - COMPLACENCY IS NOT THE ANSWER. WE "ALL" NEED TO BE INVOLVED!!!!

@9:54. You are so correct! However, haven't you noticed that many times we taxpayers ask questions we don't get straight answers, or an answer at all, and sometimes a beat around the bush answer? April is approaching, so hopefully we will have a change (big) in Peru.

Recently a individual purchased a piece of property in downtown Peru which has been on the market for over four years. At approximately 11:30 PM today he got a official greeting from a union organization and its symbol the RAT.
This greeting most likely has been extended because a non union contractor is doing the work on this project. In the last year other building owners have been treated with a visit from the Rat in our area because they hired non union contractors. What is upsetting is that these same building owners have contacted and asked both union and non union contractors to submit bids for jobs and have only received bids back from the non union contractors. But when the actual work was started the union RAT made his appearance. Another issue which has to be considered is the cost factor of union vs. non-union. A high percent of the time the union contractor is significantly higher. Every time I see this RAT which I assume is signifying scab labor by union terminology only, I also see the American Flag being flown. I can personally guarantee you that more non-union workers served America than union. Simple math proves this. What fails to be understood is that a person in a democracy has the right to work and has the right to be non-union at the same time. In many cases he/she cannot or could not get into the union.
May America always be the land of the free and the home of the brave, which includes free choice.

The unions are organizations which have been trying to replace free choice with no choice for decades. The lady with the Right to Work State sign has the right idea. In these states the union does not have a closed shop and the employee has the right to join the shop union or not to join.
These are also the states which have been getting all the work for years. Illinois is a closed shop state.

Citizens of Peru,
Congratulations on a great website to keep everyone informed on local issues. Its imperative to keep informed and educated about your community, after all, as citizens, you are the first line of defense for your own well being and liberty.
Keeping that in mind, regarding your upcoming IDOT meeting, Peru citizens would do well to understand who IDOT really is, what their true objective is, and who really is their master.
A revcent post of CITYWATCH, @citywatch1.blogspot.com addressing issues with regional planning, also mentions IDOT and their complicity in the matter.
Peru's is no different.
Hope you can investigate and learn.
Thanks, and again, great job.
CITYWATCH.
