Is the picture of the man sitting down the mayor of the city?

It looks like two protests. One for Right to Work and one for the Unions. Was anyone arrested? The rat appears to be blocking traffic. The Union Thug looks like he was about to assult the other protester. It looks like laws where broken. What is the Mayor doing about it?

This is just the start. We are ready to shut down every business and construction site in Peru unless we get ours! These business owners think the money is theirs. We say just raise your prices and pass it on. We need our money and we don't care who gets tossed aside as long as what remains is Union! Walmart, Target, HyVee, watch out. We are orgainzing and WILL SHUT YOU DONW UNLESS YOU CAVE IN! Solidarity for all Union Brothers and Sisters. The time is NOW! Shut them Down!

6:04 I don't think from that picture you can assume a union thug is assaulting anyone. He might have been asking if she wanted a cup of coffee if he went to get one for all we know. I would guess that whoever was taking the pictures might have called the police if they were witnessing an assault, verbal or physical, as would the workers.

It is sad enough without inflaming the situation with accusations of breaking the law. Maybe the lady holding the sign could comment on the blog about the treatment she received.

Looks like I found my next contractor.

The balloon, chair and the man sitting in the chair are blocking a turn lane on a state highway. You would think that at least one of the patrolling law enforcement agencies would have made a arrest. The only person who is obeying the law appears to be be the lady with the Right to Work Sign. It also appears that she is looking for a job. Did the union representative give her a application to fill out applying for a job or has any other craft given her a application to join their union?

Is that what union dues pay for a man sit in a chair and an inflated rat? I would be very upset that my union representative waited until the last day of construction to finally decide to "represent" the "brotherhood" considering the contractor has been on site for over a month now.

I think it would be much more effective if the women was wearing a bikini.

8:40 I don't understand the constant need to degrade the brave women who stand up for what they believe in. It is not funny to bring sexism into the discussion. The city would be much better off if more men posted their names and stood up to the status quo.

Agree with them or not, they care and have courage.

I would have definitely chosen a different construction company.

I was never involved or interested in union acitivities. My family consisited of many small business owners with no employees other than family. The first time I heard of the rat was at the rebulding of the House of Hunan and at at that time, it was explained to me the purpose of the rat. There may have been others but then it was when Rural King experienced the union disfavor with the rat in their lot. I don't believe it hurt either one of those businesses one bit. But now we have it in the old business district of Peru which really needs some help and most of us were very happy to see someone invest in the town.
To me it represents a "bully" tactic by the union and that really is a pain for a short time only. Nothing we can do about it, so lets move on and let them look like they do to many of us.

Is the rat a symbol of unionism as the hammer and sickle is a symbol of communism? Why would anyone downgrade themselves to so low a representation? There must be a inner meaning which is explained to the membership upon initiation. If they are not sworn to secrecy would one of them submit a brief explanation?
I would join a organization that had a lion or tiger as its symbol but never a snake, rat or spider or cockroach.

If you look closely at the photo you will view the union guy signaling he has beer in the back of the truck. The State that Norma Rae has on the poster looks like Mississippi or maybe Indiana. It looks like the poor little union guy that is out in the hot sun trying to earn a honest wage and this lady comes out wheeling this sign. She looks like she may hit him with that sign. I think she may have forced the union guy to sit out in traffic! He looks scared and intimidated by the lady and is sitting chained to the chair on a State highway. I bet she took his cold beer and pizza in addition to taking his self esteem. Where is law enforcement when a brother is in need?

Is the flag wearing union person asking the sign holding big business person if she wants to go across the street for some pizza and suds? Wonderful how people can work together to improve the business climate in Peru.

Come on give me a break! Some of you sound like this women saved our country with her bravery. The point of the matter is that the rat and signs were a staged act for a few minutes. Anything to get on camera. Lois is right its just a few minutes of individuals of expression.

Why is it that people that negotiate their own wage perform better and get paid more than people that use collective bargaining? Move on with the times people. If you are in a union, all you are doing is making some union official rich for doing nothing. The union officials are the real SKABS! I wonder how much this SKAB Union Thug is being paid to sit on his big but in the middle of the road all day long.

3:17 I was just disappointed by the stupid bikini comment, not making her out to be a hero. It does take guts to protest in person against any union around here. Windows get broken and people have been hurt in the past.

Since Peru is so greedy maybe the unions can make business move to Oglesby. Peru takes all the money and gives nothing to Oglesby. We need stores I hope the unions will make stores move to Oglesby.

Pay those union dues for the next election campaign cycle! It is certain that the union will bring a slate of candidates for all those Peru Township and City upcoming elections. Paid for by your union wages. Paid for by your tax dollars.

Speaking of the Peru Township elections what transpired at this weeks township meeting? Understand that the pay reviews and decreases and/or increases were to be the main topic. What resulted? Found no information in the newspaper.
With the conditions of Citizens bank in our locality making front page of the newspaper common sense would be a indication that drastic cuts should be made at the township level in pay because they are supported by these same people as taxpayers.
Anyone collecting $39,000/year in a PART-TIME job is going to have to jump through rings of fire under a magnifying glass to prove he is worth it in the future and than be able to put his qualifications on the table to prove it. The trustees pay per meeting is also a MUST for revision toward the negative side.
Opposite to industry politicians pay traditionally increase year after year whether money is made or lost. You never hear of a politician taking a pay cut and this must be stopped. The pay of people financially supporting the political segment has been decreasing for years and their cost of living has been increasing continuously.

9:28 and residents of Peru will buy in hook, line and sinker.

I wonder if the "King Rat" is going to protest LaSalle's new Rotary Park this weekend. They are going to do something unheard of. They are using, brace yourself, VOLUNTEERS to install $127,000 worth of playground equipment. By using volunteers instead of contracted union laborers, the City is going to save $50,000. Imagine the nerve.

Yes a real example of "Union's at Work" is your Peru TWP. Supervisor and Mayor. Dump all of these clown's and elect REAL PEOPLE !!!

Is this the job of that FAT A_ _ with a beard? Does he get paid for being lazy? No wonder this country is in the shape it is in.

Why should any employee be required to join a union as a condition of employment than forced to pay dues or fees to the organization IN ORDER to gain employment? That is NOT individual freedom.

Understand Right to Work is about the FREEDOM OF CHOICE not forced unionism!

Individuals should start appearing next to the "rat" with a Right to Work sign at every worksite in order to make an impact in your communities.

Anon 5:59 Everything has become so sweet politically that very few are running under the idea of reform, instead we are seeing the type of person who sees the pot of gold and says I want that too and more. Sad to say politically it is no longer what I can do for my country but what can my country do for me.
Much of this attitude is long term office holders who haven't had a original idea since LBJ was in office. For example: Trusteeships on the Peru Twp. What is the pay per monthly meeting which averaged 37 minutes/meeting last year.

I like what I see on the sign. Makes a lot of sense in 2012.
