This park and many others in this town are a disgrace to our community.

This park definitely needs a new bench and some tender loving care.

there is not yet a topic on this but thought id put it out there. there was a fire today at Vinnie's Tap and man did all of the Emergency service personnel work well together, i was there and must say it was sad to hear some of the people "bashing" the VOLUNTEER fire department, by my observations they saved a mans business from burning to the ground. For that i say Thank You. To the people congregated around watching these men work complaining about them, if you think you can do a better job i challenge you to take out an application and get to it, if you are not willing to do that then zip it! if you dont have anything nice to say dont say anything at all

PFD always does an amazing job. But in all honesty, i think i would have let that one burn.

The PFD is paid by the city taxpayers!!!!! To do their job. Thanks PFD. Good plug for PFD blogger. You must be a fireman, wanting a full-time fire chief or live in sycamore lakes.

PFD IS VOLUNTEER, HOWEVER, the fireman are paid VERY well ($32), per call and paid more if fire call exceeds a couple hours. Compare what PFD is paid per fire call to surrounding departments. You'll be surprised.

We must be in the process of or have already hired summer help - and now the fun begins. Today I already witnessed 4 kinds riding in the back of a city pick-up truck. Yet, when I drove by Centennial Park and Baker Lake the garbage cans were filled to overflowing and garbage was strewn all over. What happened to our Friday and Saturday garbage pick ups?
Do we not have a set schedule and maintenance plan for our city workers? We need one desperately!

I have had a communication with Ald. Mayszak and that have been 30 summer help hired.

Also The Rotarians in Peru do work in the park twice a year, planting flowers and trees. Their first time will be this Wed. at 6 PM.
They do not cut grass and trim in the park, that is the responsibility of the city. Maybe we all could help and see if extra weeding needs to be done in the flower beds, if they would not mind.Unless the summer help will take that job on.

I believe its been reported PFD firemen receive $32 for the first couple hours, and then around $12 per hour after that. I believe LaSalle has a similar system, and are paid about the same. When you consider the risks that they take for us, all of their training, and time away from work and family into account, I think its pretty reasonable. Remember back to the westclox fire. I'm sure a majority of those guys took time off of work that they were not paid for. I'm willing to bet that it happens more often than we know.

How can they be riding in the back of a pick up when passengers in the back seat of a car have to wear seat belts?

Anonymous said...

Isn't it illegal to be riding in the open bed of a pick up?

I thought it was anon 6:29. We've done it before and apparently we're still doing it.

I talked to the city hr lady last year and she sent a memo out to all dept. heads that no one is to ride in the back of pickups. they must be seated inside and seatbelted. She also informed me that the memo went to the chief of police, and if I saw this happening to call the police and her with the truck and location. I guess the memo has not been sent out this year.

Today was the lst day I witnessed the summer help at work. They were cutting the grass in a nearby city park. There were 2 individuals who kept cutting and cutting the grass over and over again until someone in a city truck entered the park and spoke to them. Then another summer helper appeared on a lawnmower and they all departed the park. No trimming or weed eating has yet been performed this year. The park doesn't look much better than the pictures of the park above. If this is any indication of how our tax dollars are going to be spent once again this summer I think we need to come up with a better plan.

An interested taxpayer!

Does the city have a policy for drug testing for summer help? Due to the fact that jobs being performed require using equipment. Would drug testing employees lower the cities insurance premiums? Just a thought and an idea.

Thanks to the interested taxpayer for trying to prevent poor prior work practices to not become the work ethic of another summer. This work ethic is not only that of some of the summer help but also of those who manage the summer help.
Being that historically this program is a continuous target of constructive criticism year after year it is time for all taxpayers to observe it and to directly call officials in charge of city functions and inform them of the way the managers they have appointed are doing their jobs. Also networking through personal contacts and the blog are good updates of city programs.
The time to make a job out of a job is overdue and finding where the responsibility lies and seeing that they are fulfilled is long overdue in Peru.

I was told tonight about a path through Washington Park where city trucks travel from the city park garage to another storage unit in the park. That these vehicles are not little golf cars but big city trucks driving through the park near to where children are playing and I heard they don't creep along. I vaguely remember some concrete or other hard surface near to the tennis courts but not that familiar with them. Anyone else seen this happening while children were in the park using the playground?

If you see anyone riding in the back of a truck call the police. If you see workers abusing our city equipment or wasting time call the police. Since the mayor and hr won't do anything about our worthless supers then we need all these incidents documented. Call the police. Stop our tax dollars being wasted!

8:49 Call your officials? There's only 2 that would do anything, or at least try, but if they don't get the support from the mayor to hold the SBleck accountable then forget it. I think we all know which 2 to call.

9:26 Yea we do---Alderman Bob, and Jim. Jim who,you may ask? the one appointed for one reason and one only.'Bobble head'. If you don't believe me, what has he done for us lately? You meant to call these two, correct?
