Important meeting in that the Recreation Commission for a number of years has been handed the responsibility of hiring the pyrotechnics although they never legally had the authority to do Now Ald. Ankiewicz would like the ordinance changed so they are allowed to have the "actual" authority to do so.
We elect aldermen to wisely spend our tax dollars to benefit the residents of this city and instead they tell the Recreation Commission "you take care of this"
I believe that when aldermen say to go out for bids on all major expenditures, that it should include our fireworks also which is a major expenditure.
Why does one alderman want to give an UNELECTED COMMISSION this responsibility? Actually most of the people on the commission have already overstayed their designated time of 5 years and should hang up their hats and Mayor Harl should be appointing new members.
Lifetime memberships on committees should be discouraged and not encouraged.

More people would like to be involved and the city is doing a very poor job of seeing this happen.

THEY DON'T WANT ANYBODY IN THEIR THAT MIGHT HAVE THEIR OWN CHOICE OR REASONING ! THEY ONLY WANT PEOPLE WHO DO WHAT THEIR TOLD OR THE MAJORITY DECIDES !

Does anyone know how they (the rec commission) got so much power and who gave it to them? Who told them to spend $20,000 on fireworks? Why not $15,000 or less? Who gave them the authority to make changes and alterations to parks and recreation activities that affect many residents of Peru? I believe their input and suggestions are valuable but that the major ones should be presented to full council for discussion and voting. I also think citizens participation should be considered on certain topics.

To 6:27 Enough publicity and things will change. Publicity and the press is like garlic to a vampire.
These politicians know they can't hide things like they have in the past. The days in the back room of the Deli are over. The more press these crooked politicians get the less power they have.

DO YOU MEAN FIREWORKS SALES IN THE BACKROOM? CHECK IT OUT.

Council Meeting for 5-30 will open with a "Strategic Planning" Presentation by: Facilitator- Don Kachur.

A successful business, organization, or household must have a "vision" and a "mission" of where they would like to be in the future. "Goals" must be set, then reached through a successful "Action Plan." To have a successful plan takes teamwork, with constant communication and evaluations of where the goals stand.

The City of Peru must have an "Action Plan" in place. Now is the time to move the city full speed ahead. The "VISION" of growth within the downtown shopping district, while continuing our growth to the north, while making our waterfront of waterstreet an attraction for tourism is a "VISION" every citizen of Peru has.
The City of Peru doesn't have to strive on carrying the title of "Leader of the Valley" we need to work closely with our surrounding communities.. Promoting growth for the entire Illinois Valley so the entire valley can strive to success!

Politics and personal agendas must be set to the side.. so the strive to a successful community can be attained.
Government must welcome input from the community, and focus on the future, so we can grow off of the accomplishments from our past.

All Meetings are open to the public and citizens are always encouraged to attend.
Please join us Wednesday, May 30th. as we work to move the city full speed ahead.

Thank you!
Rodney Perez

FAA said no to using the airport for any more concerts! When advertised that profits are going to private school in LaSalle, they said no way! Take that Peru , corrupt leader of the valley!

2:22 Did you get your information from a reliable source or is it another rumor?

Ms Noonan still has the Kid Rock signs up west of town and at her business, so I don't believe it is fact.

Things are not getting any better politically in Peru. In the past Peru had a battery operated vehicle which was carted from parade to parade because it did not have the ump to drive it a parade, participate in the parade and than be driven back to Peru. No one wanted it in their department to drive and it was too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter. But it could be found.
Now Peru supposedly has a white pick up for what reason no intelligent individual has come up with yet, which like the pickle ball equipment cannot be found.

Lois, I see on the public property agenda there is an item about recreation commission ordinance. I hope that the committee is going to have many discussions regarding what the ordinance should or should not say. This will be brought before the city council...right?

The strategic planning session is the same process that L-P high school recently completed. Same person as L-P employed. If the elected city leaders don't know what the mission of government is, then we have more problems than we ever imagined.

WE HAVE MORE PROBLEMS THAN WE EVER IMAGINED!

A number of suggestions have been thought of in regards to the white pick up WHEN FOUND. It should be distributed to outstanding city employee of the month. Another suggestion has been to include it as a city department truck and finger paint on the side "honorary ambassador of pickle ball, sunset park, recreation commission". All lettering is supposed to be upside down. Submit any further suggestions to blog.

To 2:36 there are many issues with this recreation board and how it is ran. I hope something gets done about it. They are not elected officials.

Lets give the pickup truck to the recreation ambassador to store and place the pickleball stuff up for the crowds of pickleball players. Thats the one department that doesn't have a big truck. The big truck is a status symbol in our City. Some towns value education, skills, experience. Peru values the big truck.

Bottom line is that peru's fire chief spent we taxpayers money irresponsibly!!!!! On a $30,000 truck!! Maybe he should go to a fire academy, take a class in finance, and maybe graduate, go to Chicago and become fire chief there!!

Let's not forget that this was approved (I believe unanimously) by our council.

Jonathan Brandt, appointed administrative hearing officer. What's that position responsibilities?? What compensation is to be paid??? Doesn't Peru already have it's city attorney?????????????????

Anonymous said...

CITY OF PERU ---- WHAT A FARCE----WHAT A JOKE!!! HOPE ALL SURROUNDING TOWNS ARE TAKING NOTES-THIS WAY THEY WILL ALL KNOW WHAT NOT TO DO! CAN'T WAIT FOR A NEW MAYOR, SUPER, AND ALDERMEN. THIS BUNCH IS WORSE THAN THE LAST.

Anonymous said...

3:17 my questions exactly. more waste of money in Peru? Don't we already have an attorney. 100% not happy with hiring Brandt for anything.

Anonymous said...

WHAT IS A "ADMINISTRATIVE HEARING OFFICER?" and WHY DOES PERU NEED THAT APPOINTED POSITION? WHAT ARE WE TAXPAYERS PAYING FOR THAT POSITION?????? What's next a queen and king appointed in the city?

Justin Loger said...

I remember being at the meeting when administrative adjudication was being discussed but I cant seem to find it in the minutes. If memory serves me I believe since most of our cases are tried in Ottawa then that is where a majority of our funds go as well. Even though having an attorney costs money we would be making more money in return by having the cases tried in Peru. I hope this makes sense and is somewhat accurate
