What will Peru do and how will the residents be affected by the middle of the week July 4?

Thats a perfect reason Peru has a celebration on July 3rd.

You are right, as most people won't be working on July 4

Peru always has the fireworks on the 3rd because the 4th is a holiday. That way:
1. Beer sales are higher with a holiday the next day.
2. Overtime is not as sever because the 3rd is not a holiday.

But we do pay for clean up on July 4 because Water Street needs lots of cleaning up. Is Holiday pay time and a half in Peru?

Why go through this Mickey Mouse game every year. Stop having them and save the money until someone comes up with a plan which satisfies all. Since there are firework displays nearby in every direction - Utica, Ottawa, Streator, Hennepin it is no big deal to be without for a few years. Ridiculous to come up with a bid of $500 less than $20,000
so that there is no need of seeking competitive bids by simply lowering the number of shells. Why can't the fireworks be held at the airport? Isn't there supposed to be a concert there? I do doubt if it is legal to sell and serve alcohol at a federally funded facility without FAA approval.

Peru is a working class city. Most of us work on the 5th of July and enjoy the celebration on the 3rd of July. Its tradition lets keep it that way. If the City can't afford fireworks than its ok to cancel. But its not ok to shout that there is a conspiracy because the Recreation department didn't give in to moving the location.

Read the post carefully, it had absolutely nothing to do with the location of the fireworks. Location was never even mentioned, it was about the poorly done or I should say the preferential manner it which the choice of a pyrotechnic company was handled by the Recreation commission.

Anon 4:22 At the last city council meeting it was proven by ordinance that the Recreation dept. Park board does not even belong involved with the fireworks if the fireworks are not held in a city park. There are a couple of alderman who claim the Illinois River to be a city park but they have claimed a lot of things in their quarter of a century service. The big difference today is that people want proof of what they say and it is no longer taken for granted that they are always correct. For instance what distinction has Peru in being a working class city when all cities in the world consider themselves to be a working class city, but Peru is the only one that calls itself "Leader of the Illinois Valley". This years inadequate handling of the fireworks and ordinances prove that the fireworks do not belong in the hands of the Rec Board Park Commission of these five or seven unelected people as well as the $75,000 annual unaccountable contribution they receive.

I think there is something more significant in this news article... the last sentence. "...announced that Marquis Energy of Hennepin will sponsor the grand finale of the fireworks show with a major donation." What has Mayor Harl done to build relationships with the large employers that call Peru home? I mean other than raise their utility rates?

FIRST PERU HAS TO HAVE A LARGE EMPLOYER!!!
