July 3 Water St Celebration News

In case you haven't heard, the CSO is going to make a "non-alcoholic family" area at this year's 4th of July celebration. East of Brandy's to Maze Lumber will be alcohol-free, with port-a-potties and food vendors. The CSO is also providing separate buses to and from that area. Thank you CSO for making this important change. Sherry Mayszak Peru Public Property Committee

Have we not exhaused the fireworks and pickleball discussion? In the past the CSO has sponsored bus routes and also has a family area with games sponsored by the Rec. Department. Nothing changes in that respect. I wonder how the non-alcohol area east of Brandy's will be enforced? Will there be tickets issued? In addition the CSO has always provide pota-potties at their cost. Last year food vendors were also stationed east of Brandy's. The only change is the no alcohol policy east of Brandy's, a good idea and a hope it works. I guess Jim/Lindas and the other bar east will not be able to have outdoor serving of alcohol. And those RVs parked on Water street area will now be alcohol free. Good Luck!

Great questions! Will alcohol be allowed in the area at Maze lumber? Many families are in that area. This is also where the fire trucks are stationed. In which they have a cookout on us taxpayers dime. Interesting

A few signs should take care of any issues. No alcohol beyond this point!

You know the maze lumber property is private property, I think we still are a free country if they have alcohol it's up to them. The fire dept won't have any alcohol there I'm sure of that.

The point is that nothing has changed. Except the street east of the restaurant people will not be allowed to have private coolers of alcohol or sit in the back of the pickup with alcohol. And private property is exempt. And those who will be sitting along Water Street East Bradi's will not be allowed to have alcoholic beverages? Now there will be a great deal of traffic along the river west of Brandi's with beverages. Reserve your seat now! Was it really that big of a problem along Water Street in the past. And how much extra manpower will be taken off the streeets with the new crackdown. We all know that the real parties are at the homes in the residential area, that is where you have minors, dangerous homemade firework displays, traffic problems and more.

Is Peru hiring extra reinforcement police officers? Hey, Peru has money to spend, maybe they could hire some of the police officers from Chicago. I'm sure they will have recovered from the NATO Summit.

Maybe the volunteer firemen are going to be paid to help enforce the "no alcohol beyond this point," with their spotlights. Since we taxpayers learned they do security and crowd control and got paid at concert for a cause using spotlight on fire trucks. Called jack of all trades.

The cookout the fire department has isn't bought with taxpayers money, it's paid for with funds all you suckers donate to Liberty with. And by the way I just found out recently that the absent (minded) President of Liberty quit ! Earl must've had a power struggle with the chief and lost. Good riddens and go ruin someone else's fire department.

Anonymous said...

I beg to differ with you. We "suckers" are peru's taxpayers who donate our taxing money to liberty, therefore we must be paying for the fire departments PICNICS. Maybe Fire Chief King should invite those who donate. An iceberg is more apt to come floating down the river before that happens!!! Not donating anymore, so, save the stamp, envelope, and letter requesting donations!!'

Earl and fire chief were great friends for years. Also, Fire Chief King at one time was voted by fireman as president of liberty. Kings next door neighbor who is a fireman and who kings vacations with will probably become president. Figure that one out. Wonder if beef, and sausage for cookouts are bought at peru's famous deli that liberty funds are used for? For firemans parties.

Really? I was browsing these blogs and to read that donations to liberty fire company (peru's fire department) are used for cookout. What are donations intended to be used for? WHO authorizes these expenditures? Very much unacceptable in my opinion for donations to be spent on this. What happened to bring your own meat and a dish to pass?

It appears to me that the non drinkers and families with children are getting the raw deal here. They get the section with the rubble from the power plant and not much ground to sit on or put chairs on. From Brandy's west seems as though it will accommodate many more people. Is that why the CSO chose that side of water street for the beer gardens? I do agree with alderman Mayszak that at least they did make some concessions.

Wasnt Earl the one (president) who kept the cash hoards in the safe at the fire department? A little mad money whenever the desire for a good steak arises ? I agree, save the stamp and envelope because I won't be donating anymore either!
keep the cash for yourselves and avoid the tax man?

It is a start. Sometimes change comes quickly and sometimes change comes one step at a time. This setup may not be perfect, but it is a step in the right direction. A place to build upon next year when the power plant will be gone.

To Alderwoman Mayzak, let's please have this discussion on July 4th the day after the manure is cleared from water street. I'm an optimist and far from naive like most of you are. I understand there are four new council members and may not be familiar with political dust clouds so here is your lesson. With my understanding things take time to change, this is one thing that won't. I asked my husband if the city was adding extra patrol to police that area? He laughed and said members of the CSO are laughing louder because certain officials bought into it. I'm told beer and alcohol is still allowed in the areas you mentioned. Officers are being told to advise anyone drinking in those areas east of the powerplant to keep it off the roadway. Nothing has changed but the BS.
My source of info is factual. Coolers of alcohol and consumption IS allowed east of the powerplant. Just not on the roadway pavement."read the fine print" !!!

Someone is lying to someone here. Families will be going down there thinking things have changed and nothing has but the "line of BS" As I said-- let's have this discussion on July 4th. When the blame games begin.

3 parties for fire department a year on donations??? I agree bring your meat to grill and dish to pass. Cost $0. Does Liberty Fire Company have financial reports
for where the donation monies is spent

6:26 A.M. We've been told by our police department that there are no problems on Water Street with regards to the drinking. Are you saying that someone is pulling our leg? Does anyone know why the CSO has so much control and say as to what goes on down on Water Street for the 3rd of July celebration? After all, the citizens pay for the biggest expense for this celebration (the fireworks and the police wages).

Can the kids play in the powerhouse demolition materials? Thanks for the family friendly area. Must be the same group that planned the concert!

Anonymous said...

Thanks for trying Sherri and others. Water street should be our most appealing section of the City, but it is someone of an eyesore and bug fest. Unfortunately, other towns have nicer surroundings to view their firework displays. Easier parking too.

Anonymous said...

"SOMEWHAT OF AN EYESORE." It's the worst street in. LASALLE COUNTY!!!!!!!!!!!! Drive slow, it's like an obstacle coarse. It looks like the projects in Chicago, meaning water street. But, their roads are better!!! I know, I've been there.

Anonymous said...

Question. One block west of the boat club on the Mott side of waterstreet there is a JUNKYARD! It's been there for years. Why hasn't the city done anything about this EYESORE? I urge everybody to check it out! We taxpayers pay for a department head to oversee this. How could this junkyard be overlooked????????

Anonymous said...

It's on north side. It's all a bunch of scrap metals thrown all over. It's needs to be gone. Who own that property? Do they have permits, etc... Peru needs new department heads !!!! Blogger, you are 100% correct about the junkyard and waterstreets road.

Officers Wife,

Thank you for your information. I have not been to Water Street for years mainly because I don't like to fight the crowds. This year I will be going, and I will be in the "Family" area. I truly believe that the CSO is doing good things for the City. If they are laughing behind my back because I'm giving them credit for making an effort to have a family friendly area, that's just sad. I will be watching very closely what happens this year in the "family" area. If things aren't set up as promised, and if there aren't extra police patrolling that area, this discussion will continue and I will be very vocal not only with my disappointment, but also with my ideas of what will need to be done differently in 2013 - that I can promise you.

Anonymous said...

We have somebody judging and making recommendations that has not been on Water Street in several years? 2013 I promise, is that out of the politician handbook of famous phrases? Please tell us that the police will be taking care of public safety not the taverns, CSO or Peru officials. The city will be better off leaving the planning to the Police professionals.

From officers wife to alderwoman Mayszak.
I appreciate your concern and commitment. The police department only has so many staffed for that day,we are already limited on how many they can place on duty on any given shift.I can tell you this much,'we haven't gone down there in years either and had hopes on going this year but the only change that has been announced is for the officers to tell anyone east of the powerplant walking on the street with alcohol they are to be up and off of the roadway. If the city was going to make a family area alcohol should be prohibited beyond a certain point. 'according to my husband' "it's NOT" coolers and tailgating is still in place.I will also tell you the rumor is--- Harl met with the cso members and came up with this idea so aldermen like Rod 'tones it down' There is suppose to be signs placed near the beer tent 'NO ALCOHOL BEYOND THIS POINT'
( that is referring to beer sales from the tent) Dan from the CSO told my husband they will not be concerned with what people bring down, and neither will officers patrolling. This is just information that is out to the officers now. That could change after all this blog chat. You and Rod keep doing what you are doing.

A COUPLE YEARS AGO THERE WAS A GARAGE FIRE DURING THE FIREWORKS . THE FIRE TRUCKS WERE PARKED AT MAZE LUMBER. I couldn't believe the safety issue here! Kids all over the place, adults drinking etc.. These fire trucks should be at the fire station not parked at maze lumber. I couldn't believe that noone has the brains to figure thus one out!!!!!!! If fire call came in, makes sense that firetrucks arrival time would be alot quicker!!!!

That is also an issue with the fire trucks at the Concert for a Cause. When I expressed that concern to someone, they answered that probably would be easier for LaSalle to answer the call with mutual aid.
What are the fire trucks doing on Water Street anyway?

Anonymous said...

Actually I was at Riverview (Linda's) and could see smoke, etc... From garage fire. The trucks(fire) left parking lot and had to work their way up steep hills and through streets, during festivities. This is a safety issue and should be looked into.

Fire trucks on centrally located Water Street and at the centrally located airport surrounded by people without rapid egress from either location. Peru Police cars on Interstate 80 and getting detailed in Spring Valley and City Bus seen in Joliet. Is the little mouse that roared trying to conquer new turf?

Why are the fire trucks on Water Street Lois? Please get us an answer!
