This blog is maintained for the sole purpose of allowing the people of Peru and those interested in the cities of the Illinois Valley to express their views.
“It doesn’t take a majority to win, just a tireless minority that will keep starting brush fires in the mind and hearts of their fellow men.” Samuel Adams
Thank you Lois for supplying these letters from the candidates. I am very impressed with the sincerity from most of the candidates, but I was extremely disappointed in the letter from Witczak. Did he really write this letter? Very, very sloppy and disorganized. Borderline embarrassing from someone seeking public office. I would be very concerned that he would manage his ward in the same fashion. This City needs someone who, at the very least, puts forth the best quality of leadership possible. Shame on anybody that would submit such a pathetic letter and assume voters wouldn't notice. The voters of that ward deserve someone that is willing to put in quite a bit more effort into the problems this City is facing.
The majority of these letters sound as though they have been written by candidates who sincerely want to represent their wards. They sound as though they have given a great deal of thought and understanding as to what Peru needs to move forward. That they took the time to write a personal note to their constituents during a very busy campaign process is testament to their character. GOOD LUCK ON APRIL 5th Mary, Steve, Rodney, and Mike!!!
This may not be the right spot to put this, I have been reading both blogs and both have some great "Fictional" reading. And they each bring up solid questions. the one I've been looking for is the answers to the questionare on the other blog. great general questions that would give voteres a better insoight to the candidates, So why would'nt these people answer:Second Ward – Bob Borostowski (Independent) Second Ward – James Hurst (Independent) Third Ward – Joe Witczak (Independent) Third Ward – Mary Landsiedle Fourth Ward – Steve Weberski Fourth Ward – Gerry Stachowiak (Independent Do they have something to hide ( 4th ward)
When Brian announced this several months ago, I thought that was a great idea and Mr Perez sent his in immediately and then the others began to trickle in and I talked to some of the other candidates about why they had not written a response. It was then that I found out he had a Potthoff sign in his yard and I thought why should anyone running against Potthoff bother to spend a great deal of time answering his questions for whose benefit. It made much more sense to get out there among the electorate and visit with them face to face and discuss the issues. If I had proposed a similar questionaire I know without a doubt that Potthoff, Waldorf and Mertel would have thrown it in the waste basket. Hope that you understand because I now do and would have done the same.
8:16AM Brian is entitled to his opinions and how he judges the candidates and I was disappointed to see that he believes that national party philosophies affect local elections. I don't. I claim to be an independent and I have voted for Republicans and Democrats and I did exactly that in the last election. Thee are conservative republicans and more liberal minded republicans. There are conservative democrats and liberal democrats and some of each party that is extreme in their views one way or another. You cannot put a person in a box because I don't believe there are any longer many people that vote a straight party ticket. Had not meant to be so lengthy on the subject but it needed to be said. This is a local municipal election and we are judging the currently seated council members by what they have done or not done. Also judging those trying to unseat them by what they are telling us about the manner in which they would work when seated on the Peru City Council. Neither of the blogs are "fictional" but both have their own opinions.
8:16 No, they have nothing to hide! They've been pounding the pavement meeting with their neightbors and fellow constrituents and actually talking to them. Something unique = don't you think? They've been trying to spread the word to their individual wards as to what they see for the future and what they hope to accomplish if elected. They've been busy meeting residents and asking them their opinions on city matters = another unique event. Many people do not even know that Brian's blog exists and some candidates felt it better to walk the streets = that's all.
12:42, 11:35 and 11:21, Here is my take on this issue, you have some of the candidates who chose to respond so who ever looked at the blog could get some feel as to who is running. I'm not saying if the same questions were posed on this blog that Mr Pottoff or Mr Mertel and Mr Waldorf would not have replied. My gut would say you would have gotten some type of reply. Now that may not be the reply you want but you would have gotten one. the question in thier mind is would this blog post them. As for the walking and talking I have seen more candidates in all the wards activly out working for the vote. That is a good thing for Peru.
the sign did not go up until sometime in the first or second week of March. The letters went out the last week of January. I brought up the party thing because I thought it odd that they would run as an independent while maintaining their party leadership roles. Running as an independent has a specific leagal purpose that I understand and support. But they could have mentioned their leadership role in their biography.
Brian are you suffering from major diaper rash? Some of your twenty questions were bias and did not pertain to the city council race. You must realize that most individuals running for a political office have political affiliations. I am very surprised that you got more than the three responses your survey was intended to promote.
There are several good brands of baby powder on the shelf. I am sure with your attitude you will need some.
Surely Cecil by now you and Brian must realize that most bloggers sign off as Anon so that they don't have to enlist in a lifelong mission of statistics and never ending writing around the subject proposed. Lack of guts - I know that is incorrect and I really don't have to defend myself. I also know that Brian didn't create a lot of interest with his blog by the number of comments received.

If you are a candidate that has a letter you would like to appear on the blog, phone or email us.

Who is Brian Foster? Is that another blog? I wouldn't go to some of those blogs. I hear they are posting IP addresses for all to view.
Wow 7:03! What childish comments. I hope you are not running for office. Posting anon shows you have no guts.
