Water Main Break of the Week - 7th St

Out for a walk this afternoon and came across the latest water main break, this time on 7th Street between Monks and Lincoln Ave. Ald. Ferrari lives around the corner from it. Hopefully this will be an easy fix. We just had Ossola put in a line of water main down Monks from 7th to 4th St. and this break is just around the corner on 7th. They talked about increasing water pressure with the new water main. Wonder if the pressure could have caused a break in a weak spot.

Lois, As you took that walk, did you notice HOW THE GREAT CITY EMPLOYEES (MAYOR'S BOYS) ARE WORKING ?

When I went past the job site there were two men working and SIX WATCHING. Now is that an issue to be discussed with the mayor or should it be ok to spend OUR MONEY ON SUCH A WASTE OF TIME ?

Maybe we will hear soon how the city do not have enough emmployees to get our jobs done !

I walked by the break twice about 30 minutes in between. One employee was working the backhoe and 3 others were working on the ground. On a busy street one had to be watching traffic like Drennan did a couple of weeks ago
at the break on Peoria St.

Quit your complaining, how would you like to be working in the messy dirty dangerous situation all water main breaks are.
You would complain about anything as long as Mayor Harl is mayor.
Get a life!!

Is 7:37 K or D? Sad pathetic souls. I've walked past many of the breaks during the last year. Unfortunately, there are way too many. Could that be a result of the "look away and maybe it will go away" administration from previoius years? Lately, I've seen the crews out well into the evenings. That's a long day for someone. How many hours a day do you work? Do you even have a real job? Or do you just milk the system? Who do you think digs the hole, braces the wall, brings in replacement material, stands in sewage or water for hours until everything is working ok. The trucks drive themselves too? The backhoe? The dump trucks with the replacement rock? The watermain fairy? Who directs traffic? Who manages the pumps to keep the water out of the hole long enough to get access to the pipes? I would probably back off little one. You can even begin to play with the big dogs!

I have NEVER made a complaint about a union employee at any time and I had a lot of complaints with the old administration but that was NOT ONE OF THEM. You have me mixed up with someone else who used to run a blog. I do believe that city workers have been union for some time as are the police and fire dept. This blog is only one year old and was not up and running during the past or when the mayoral campaign was taking place.

Boy it's a good thing we have smart poeple like you folks watching over the city. I don't know how the city made it with out your help for the last 176 years. Maybe you should have started to put your two cents in thirty or forty years ago when all of this terrible things were suposedly happening and then maybe you could have stoped it. Oh that's right it's easy to second guess someone who had the nerve to run for office and try to help instead of being a back seat driver and complain.

Looks like you are just looking for an argument. Go somewhere else. We have been putting our 2 cents in for just about that amount of time but you didn't have your computer turned on.

7:28 and 10:14 You have it all wrong. Were there problems in the past administration - ABSOLUTELY! Are there problems with the current administration - ABSOLUTELY! Do unions, or the lack of them, make a worker better or do a better job - ABSOLUTELY NOT! Are there bad apples in every bunch - ABSOLUTELY! What we need is to quite pointing the finger at one another and start working together to solve the problems that we continue to experience and complain about. Hopefully the swearing in of some new aldermen will open some new doors for us. Some of our old aldermen were, and still are, unapproachable.

Just about 10 days later, another break just around the corner on Lincoln Ave. In fact very close to Ald. Ferrari's home. Miserable weather to be in there doing repair on a water main. I thought when they put in a new main down Monks Avenue, the poor water pressure in the area would be improved. Is the infrastructure so bad that it is causing breaks a block away with an increase in water pressure? This is either the 2nd or 3rd break in the next block since the major replacement was done on Monks.
