Peru Requirements to Allow the Dog Pull

I have received the information from the city clerks office of what the city is asking of the dog pull promoter.

Prior to the event a Certificate of Liability Insurance naming the City of Peru as additional insured and a copy of the rules of the event. You will also need to obtain a raffle license. Dated April 7.

The city is also setting the following stipulations to be met prior to your event.

1. No non-competing dogs allowed.
2. No flexi-leashes allowed
3. Veterinarian must be present on the grounds.
4. Current veterinary record must be available.
5. Human competitors must be at least 18 years of age
6. Dog competitors must be at least 2 years of age and no older than 10 years of age. Dated April 12.

Does the event process damage any of the property or grounds? Who pays for cleanup or repairs to the sod?

Who is going to clean up the grounds, after this debacle? The poop, the grass, the trash? Will this ruin the grass? Do we have to plant new grass after they pull tires across it? Somebody better ask some questions. I hope all the aldermen who voted for this, are in attendence, and see if its like playing euchre.

DATED April 12th? Isn't that the day after the meeting when you were told rules and regulations had already been sent? Just curious! Are we being fooled to believe something that's not true?

Why do they need a raffle license? I don't recall anything of that nature being mentioned prior to this. Also, read tonight's open forum (April 14th) regarding a possiblity of putting up "booths" at the park. This, to my knowledge, was also not mentioned prior to this open forum letter.

To all the previous posters, you have good questions which should have been asked by our "silent" aldermen. Since O' Beirne was the most vocal, I would think he was leader of the pack. Perhaps some type of wood planking will be put down for the pull but the city should have explained to their residents. Hey you guys, you said yes and now tell us what you said yes to.

On May 7th (I believe) there is an arthritis walk at Baker Lake. Does anyone recall that being approved or mentioned as a "WALK FOR PEOPLE AND PETS"? Our walk is the only one that includes pets.

I just checked the N.T. blog on this topic to ask a question and I see it is no longer open.
My question is where have the dog pullers had their event in cities preferably not too far away but in Illinois? I ask this so that the city could inquire of the location and was it something that the local residents enjoyed and looked forward to have more of such events. If you are a dog puller please give us the information so we can talk to other cities. And also did you ask any of the other nearby cities to host your event and if so which ones?

I just checked the NT blog page under "most commented" and it is still open. Which blog are you looking for?

concerning the insurance... did you paraphrase the city requirement or is the liability insurance requirment actually that vague? If it is that vague, they can get by with a $10,000 liability policy when it should be at least a million.

That is the wording from the letter sent from the city of Peru to Tom Rodriquez.
