Please don't overlook the comment made by former alderman Mertel. We of the First Ward have recognized his arrogance for years and finally have sent him home in defeat.
I don't think so he congraulated Mike on winning and he is allowed his opinion just like you are. You sound like sour grapes because your man didn't make the cut. Lets see what the council does now Good luck Rodney, Mike.
Of course out of all of that you would single that comment out. Mr. Mertel was gracious in his loss to Mr. Radke if you read all of the comments. Both are nice guys and Mike won fair and square. Mertel's comments are in line with what many believe about the fourth ward, obviously. The voters have spoken. Move on.
I would doubt that Mertel's defeat is a good thing, but we will hold up the Radtke letter everyday he votes on the city council to verify his position.
Will he help the 1st ward ?, I doubt it, because he does not know where I live in the first ward.

11:32AM The First Ward and Fourth Ward happen to be miles apart and each has problems unique to each. We share the use of public works but differ in many other aspects. I can pretty much guarantee it is the one thing out of the whole article that people will talk about and remember. Mr. Mertel seems to have a habit of speaking aloud when he would benefit from being quiet.
Those who voted for Mr. Mertel 4 years ago and those who voted for him this election should be ashamed of themselves after you read his comments regarding Mr. Weberski. This is the kind of individual you want representing your ward? Wonder if Mertel had won and so had Weberski? Mr. Mertel has already shown he would be unwilling to work with a fellow alderman. Why do people find it necessary to be cruel and in my opinion inhuman? This is not what I want representing me or the city of Peru. By the way, what exactly has Mr. Mertel done for his ward?
Well the voices come out. One of the greatest things an Alderman does is not only take care of their ward but pays attention to the whole city, and that is what Mr. Mertel did. Mr Werberski stated that if Mertel paid more attention to his own race he might have done better. The same could be said for STEVE signs all over the city Please. Get ready Steve you better let the Mayor his days are numbered time for a change!!!!!!!!!!!!

Imagine what kind of world we would live in if all of the alderman were "QUIET". Whether you like his comment or not it has nothing to do with you. Let Weberski and Mertel deal with it however they want. The residents of Peru need to focus on issues dealing with the city not on some silly comments made in a newspaper.
12:34PM Mr Mertel did not take care of his own ward only the areas that he thought would give him enough votes to win (until this year) and that is the reason he lost so badly in the second precinct of the First Ward. Most of the candidates had signs all over town and that happens to be a non issue, just an election occurrence. Just for your information, I actually voted for Mr Mertel once.
I think Mr. Mertel does not know how a gentleman, would act, just like he didn't know how a alderman should act. He never returned your calls, he lied to me about being out of town, you could not rely on him for anything. He was always arrogant, looked down his nose at you. That is why I voted for Mike Radtke. I hope he has a good 4 years.
It does have something to do with me as he was one of the representatives of the ward I live in and I am angry at his inability to be a gracious loser and embarrassed that someone who represents me and everyone in this ward would express such arrogance.

I have called him on many occasions and felt he was responsive. Maybe you were angery or rude which may have caused a defensive posture. I hope Mr. Radtke is just as resposive as the past alderman.

1:58 The big difference is that Mr. Mertel was a representative of the ENTIRE CITY OF PERU and I am embarrassed that our surrounding communities have to read things like that in our local paper.
Just listen to the "talk" around town. EX Alderman Mertel is the headliner...and not in a good way. No class, no dignity, and people just shaking their heads in disbelief. Shades of Charlie Sheen mentality! Maybe he can take his act on the road, too!!
Radtke is a young, bright, educated, professional with quite a bit of energy to take on the thankless job ahead of him. He is successful in his business life. He understands the requirements to run a department successfuly AND at a profit. Could Mertel ever say the same in his business background? The election is over. We have fresh ideas from new alderman coming on board. Go forward!
Maybe the reason, Mertel lost was, he never would answere a phone call, you left a message which was fine, but 4 to 5 days later he would call back, too late. I asked very few things of Jamey, I only called him twice in the years he was in, but he could not or would not help me. Sorry Jamey, But I voted for Mike. I LIKE MIKE!
I asked very few things of Jamey. But there were concerns that were brought to his attention. What bothered me the most was the fact he never brought any of the issues up at a city council meeting. I stopped asking. I LIKE MIKE TOO! Listen to the people in your ward Mike. You have our support.
