Nice to know that we have been over paying the district all these years. I guess it is great news, the board has enough money to pay for this. But... what happens when the Chicagocrats put local funding for teachers pensions back in play? Or when the state just decides to cut the budget? What happens when the contract is up and the teachers demand a raise becase we have all this extra money? Oh... ya, the sales tax will be back on the ballot as soon as the LP board askes for it again.
Overpaying 6:04? You had better check your tax rate again. Because they build up some reserves and pay as they go I suppose you think that is a bad thing right? If only our other local and state governments were ran as well as our local school districts. You will not see this on your tax bill. The county school sales tax is another issue but it has nothing to do with this.
absolutely not Mr. 6:04. But a rainy day fund is supposed to be used for just that... a rainy day. No one is going to be hurt and the education of the students in not in jeopardy if the sports complex is not built. This reminds me of a joke about the U.S. Air Force.
At the risk of upsetting my Air Force brothers and sisters, there is a reason that they have the best facilities in the US Military. You see, Air Force planners must have went to the same school of government spending that Mr. Quesse and Mr. Wrobleskie went to. When the Air Force builds a new base, they talk congress into buying a parcel of land that is ten times the size they actually need. When funds are appropriated for the new base, they promptly build a golf course on it. When they are out of money because they spent it all on the golf course, they ask congress for more money to complete the base. After all, they have a considerable investment already. When they get the additional funding, they dive in constructing and Officer’s Club, an NCO Club, and an Airman’s Club. Once the clubs are finished, they go back to congress and tell them they are out of money. Again, Congress appropriates more. The Air Force promptly builds a Commissary and Post Exchange, using up all the additional money. The Air Force approaches Congress again. Congress, getting wise to this ploy, tells the Air Force that they must use the money for military construction this time. So, the Air Force promptly builds military housing for their officers and NCO’s and barracks for their Airmen. Again, depleting their budget, they go back to congress to get more money. Congress gives them the additional funding and the Air Force finally builds a runway. This is why the Air Force has the most luxurious facilities in the U.S. Military.

I agree there is some creative financing going on and I actually applaud them for thinking outside of the box.
Just don't get your facts on anything related to government or school finances from the news tribune.

Nice to see that someone can manage money.
