The purpose of this picture was to test and prove the extreme tensile strength of the bench which was made from donated plastic bags. As you can see this was more than a valid test and the bench passed all expectations but word is that one end sunk into the ground at least 4 3/4 inches and the little boy on the end appeared to be on a teeter totter.
What a bunch of tools !! And I don't mean the kids. So when we sign a waiver at the beginning of the school year for the school to use pictures and video of our kids as they wish, this is what they mean? I'm pretty sure this is illegal in any state. You can't exploit kids as a political ad! Grow some morals! !
This picture will be included as part of a community profile to be published by our local News Tribune. I downloaded because it showed some of our city officials, no other reason.
A bench is now the standard for city developement. Really....a bench for a news photo...a bench! A sign for a roadway and a bench for Peru news. Maybe we are setting our goals too high for this new administration. I did hear that they may change a light bulb at a Park. Can't wait for that photo opportunity. At least we know that a few at city hall have alot of free time.
We saved and turned in our plastic bags and I believe the city has already received 4 of these benches yet none have been circulated in our parks as promised. Will they too disappear and turn up in the cemetery or at city hall? Oh yeah, 2 are already sitting at city hall.
Wow this is quite a event for a park bench. Please remember that the bench was donated by Advantage Logistics. A nice photo for those running for reelection in April 2013. My only question is "where is the bench?"

I saw a photo like this at a garage sale. It had Mr.Ned, Bozo, Cookie and the duck inside a big tent with kids. In this photo I don't which one is the duck.
You know what, I thought it was a nice thing to show kids young and old that working together no matter what you disagree on that you can get a nice thing done. It shows that with a little comunity effort they showed the kids that recycling does pay off. Maybe you poeple with your smart --- remarks should be happy and not try make something bad and cheap out of something nice I didn't see any re-elect signs so those that complained and made fun you should be ashamed of yourself. No matter if it's a few simple benches or something more important maybe it's a start, aleast there was some cooperation on the council, that's how cities can get things done. joe witczak
Please remember that these benches are donated to the city, if there is an area that you feel they should go then contact your elected representative. We (Advantage Logistics) have made suggestions that they go to the veterans homes first, but I would personally like to see every bench in Peru replaced with these. If you have any questions do not hesitate to ask.
Well said, Joe and Justin. My statement about this is how sorry I feel for the people making the nasty ugly comments. They donated a park bench and gave it a school for the kids to use. Is that so bad? In the sad dark world of anonymous blogging, it is.

I am not happy or agree with a lot of what is going on in this town and how much it has changed for the worse in the last few years, but what can I do about it other then voice my opinion in a nicely manner. I know my father works hard for his ward and tries to do what is best for the city whether you like it or not!! He can't please everyone and not all are going to agree with him. That is life and something he deals with and chose to do, but For someone to call him a heifer or the bench is sinking?? Please grow up!! While I agree some/many comments posted are for argumentative purposes and contain undocumented/researched conclusions; some individuals on this blog have devoted many hours and resources to provide trustworthy information to the readers.
Unfortunately Mr. Clark, please recall not all individuals may have the same "resources" as you that allows them to go "directly" to the source.

Norm, I personally am not interested in soothing the ego of people not doing the job they were elected to do. I want people to be informed about what is going on in Peru that does not make the paper but does affect each and every one of us in one way or another just like the neglect of our city parks and then they are taken over by the not so nice element of our citizenry.
I am certainly not in the business of soothing anyone's ego myself. I agree that there are a lot of things that could be (and maybe should be) done differently/better. Name calling and rumor mongering however is not what I feel is the most effective tactic.

"You are welcome to agree or disagree but please do it in a manner that is respectful to those who are reading this blog and contributing their ideas or searching for answers." Emphasis on respectful.
Your resources involve an entire organization that indeed allows better access to the "source"/politician in some situations. Where as the average citizen must rely on creativity and sometimes "horsecrap" in order to gain the slightest attention from our elected officials.

Would it be considered political bullying by politicians and political committees to continue to drive up unreasonable costs for the last building constructed in downtown Peru and for the next one which has already cost the builder, TEST $81,000 in cost of the land and over $1,000,000 in potential construction costs? When is construction of TEST's new building going to start? Is it going to have one of those big blue and white signs in front of it in association with the Mayor? It will be great for downtown Peru to get a investment of this magnitude. Getting tired of smoke shops, gold shops instead of a tattoo parlor, a Karate shop, a game shop which never got the doors open and a closed down bank protected by a cage so it doesn't fall apart on someone's head. Hope TEST's investment will give the forgotten downtown Peru a much needed rejuvenation.
From celebrity waiter to kiss the bride to Bench tester! WHAT'S NEXT? Didn't I read once a few weeks ago that one of the persons in this picture is rude to citizens and taxpayers at council meetings? What goes around comes around eventually. Glad the bench passed it's test! It sure looks like it did to me. Peru wouldn't want a lawsuit if it didn't pass.
