I know that the SPW in Peru has ordered a pressure relief valve for many parts of Peru but I do wonder if the topography of Peru increases our risks of many more breaks compared to other towns in the area. Much of Peru has a lot of steep hills and the break at 1st and Peoria is probably a testament to that since it is located near the bottom of the Peoria Street hill. Maybe we need to be talking to engineers in West Virginia for advice.

I wonder if all the expansion up North and the addition of all that concrete is also adding to the extra flow of water to the south end of Peru. I also wonder if it wouldn't be wiser to concentrate our efforts right now on infrastructure rather than roads.

Lois you have just stated a comment today at 12:34 on the same subject. What is your solution to this problem. From what I hear Peru has a Engineering school in Champaign called the U of I and another in Peoria by the name of Bradley which both are of high esteem plus many others in our state. Why do you suggest talking to engineers from West Virginia - I hope not because it is hilly.

Yes that was the jist of my comment as I was in need of a little humor. Also because just maybe we need to examine things with just a bit of common sense. Like water runs downhill faster and with more force than if everything is level.
Please laugh a little with us.

We should consult Virginia - just as hilly - but they are a right to work state.

I guess I'll just say thanks to the city employees that gave up time with their families instead of complaining....Thanks guys!

If employees of the Peru Water Department could not be contacted or refused to work Christmas or any other holiday what procedures would the city have immediately available? What is the hourly pay for Christmas Day?
Remembering the tiff about the CSO,a private organization, having no female members it would be interesting to know how many male employees are in the city clerks office? How many female employees are in the street and water dept. and how many female employees are in the electric dept?

such garbage you post 5:38, the city workers hourly pay on a holiday should be at least double what there normal salary is, you would expect it if you had to work, where do you get your info? who REFUSED to work??? i dont think it matters how many men/women work in a certain department as long as the job gets done-troublemaker should be your name

6:38 Take a well deserved time out and when you are mentally more stable come back and answer the above questions with fact rather than your personal feelings if you have factual answers. These are business questions managers answer all the time without letting their personal feelings get in the way unless they can't answer them. If they cannot give a business answer they are replaced. You get second opportunity after your timeout and if you don't do any better consider yourself replaced!

6:38 They refused to work on it and said they will just let it run all night. Now that it ran all night, the water undermined the whole street block. Everywhere the backhoe drove on it caved in the road. So instead of getting them out of bed and fixing the leak, now the whole road has to be replaced. Which will cost more money. I feel sorry for the first salt filled snowplow that drives over it.

Would anyone tell why the Peru Street and Water Department refused to work on the water main break
on Christmas Eve which appears to have caused much additional damage to the street than if it had been repaired immediately? The comment by Anon 5:58 now seems to be of much greater significance.

Who is or are they? If a violation of a contact has been broken what disciplinary procedures have been enforced? If there is a contractual clause that states that the penalty for refusal to perform a stated responsibility as directed is dismissal it is the supervisory staffs responsibility to enforce it.
6:38 You have had four full days and one hour for your time- out and have failed to answer 9:09 consider yourself to be replaced also.

What about Peru's Christmas party? Was it put on by the city or by others? I think it was at the maples during the day.

Sounds about right. This group critcized the last group because the last group met after council meetings. Now its ok for this new group to meet at another place for whatever, whenever! So much for CHANGE. The more we change the more things look alike.

Lois it is a shame how this blog has gone. The break was fixed on xmas day and how do people know it is a party at the maples during work? Was that poster their to see? Maybe the employees paid for themselves during thier lunch break! Now this blog is trying to control where the employees eat? Lois get back to the real topics, because you and Linda are embarassing yourselves with all this heresay and half truths!

9:12 Where did you see me post anything about a party or the break not being fixed immediately? I DO NOT, and I repeat DO NOT believe in heresay and half truths. Yes, I do ask questions and try to seek answers so these half truths that you speak about become fact or fiction. The trouble encountered many times is no one has a definitive answer so, if you have some facts make them public knowledge.

I think the break was discovered on Christmas Eve and yes it was fixed on Christmas Day and I believe that is what was posted. Looking back, I cannot see where anyone complained that you did not work on Christmas but they believed it should have not been left to until the next morning but fixed on Christmas Eve when it was discovered.

Sometimes people assume that Christmas parties continue in the city of Peru. I heard nothing about a party and if employees wish to get together on their own dime and celebrate the Holiday, no one should complain. Don't you think it is understandable considering past practices of Peru that seeing a bunch of city employees eating together that people will think "now what is the city paying for"

Old beliefs die hard in Peru.

I was visiting my mom for Christmas who lives on that corner. I talked to the Peru City worker at midnight/1am who said it would be fixed in the morning. I don't know much about piping/infrastructure but I would think running all night as big as the break was would cause more damage. They were there early in the morning and worked most of the day missing their families for Christmas. Either way, they would have made money because it broke in the middle of the night. I am appreciative that they were there to fix it and did it in a quick enough fashion that our water was running by time our whole family was there to celebrate. I am so sick of people being so negative about everything. Don't we all learn from things that happen on how to do better the next time. Hopefully they have fixed the road so it is safe enough until they can have a permanent fix. I truly mean that since my family is driving over it daily and their house is right there.
