Proposed Sand Mining Near Starved Rock
Good Morning Lois
The LaSalle County Board has an important vote coming up in January, and I was wondering if you could find a space on your blog to let citizens voice their opinion one way or the other on the proposed sand mine. Thank You, Jill Bernal
Thanks Jill. I hope the county board supports all of the proposed mining and all of the economic benefit it will bring to the region. And it will bring economic benefit. At the same time I hope the county will understand its responsibility to ensure all mining companies be held accountable to environmental and safety regulations as well as being a good neighbor to all nearby property owners.
Jill - I beleive it is common practice throughout the country for governing bodies to impose an "impact fee", based on tonnage of material produced and shipped, from the mining companies, which will provide for the cost infrastructure improvements as a result of heavy truck traffic on city and county roadways. I hope the county board will consider imposing such a fee. This will not be a problem for the mining companies.
Its not a common practice to post impact fees. In fact its Anti-business. Steve, you obviously don't own a business. Yes to the sand mine and the boost to our local economy. Yes to the wages that the mine will bring. Don't impose monentary fines for a hopeful business.

Jill, I think its a great idea, you getting on the blog, asking for the peoples opinion of whether or not they want this. Yes to the sand mine.
