Western End of Water Street

The large open area where a few cars are seen on the edge is the empty lot formerly National Sheet Metal which was taken down because of extreme contamination of the area on which it sat and this is where the "beer garden and band" are situated and beyond that is an active RR line.

Now it is the time for the police chief to calculate how many officers he will need to adequately patrol the entire where people gather and then figure out how much cost per person it will be and give to the Mayor and the finance committee the figures so the City Council can allocate the additional funds to keep Water St. free of open cans of alcohol and and underage drinkers and checking their containers if need be.

It always happens. Their is always some individual or group which is determined to get payback rather than accept the majority decision and make the most out of it. The vote has taken place, the decision has been made now is time to let it rest. There are many important issues which Peru government has facing it. Some of which are who has been selected to be on the "Peru Super Committee", is the city sponsoring a Christmas Party for city employees and a holiday bonus being the employees already have rec'd raises in a down economy. Most corporations have discontinued party expenses.
Should the city policy of letting city employees drive home in city sponsored transportation be discontinued - additional mileage on vechile and cost of tires, insurance, and gas etc. There are still many cost saving areas to be encountered out there that have to be faced some which will be very unpopular . Many of us are now going to be among the troops whom Mayor Harl was referring to when he said "Be careful this is a double edged sword, the troops are not going to be happy"

I am pretty sure the city Christmas party was eliminated and I would imagine the bonuses were not. Employees using city vehicles for personal travel has a long history of taking place in Peru and should be eliminated also.

11:17 another issue which will have to be dealt with is ward redistricting. By the way what ever became of the electrical survey which was to cost the city $22,000?
A couple of weeks ago I saw a city employee cutting the grass at the swimming pool when it was still very short. Today, 9-23-11, I was riding by Washington Park and witnessed a city employee on the riding mower cutting the outfield grass of the big diamond.
I believe Steve said first the money would have to be appropriated for roads and than a plan would be made. The $7,000,000 has been appropriated and the city has a line of credit, if this $7,000,000 is for roads what process has been made for a plan and who is to put the plan together? Chamlin Consultants, the Super Committee, city council or all.
What is such significance at council meetings that 50% of the meetings end up in closed session?

4:12 When was the $7,000,000 appropriated?

To 4:12pm
Closed Meetings are held, in my view, because the Mayor does not want His lack of understanding of city Government TO BE Public.

Pretty Obvious. There are more closed meetings with Mayor and you could add up since the incorporation of the City of Peru, Quite a few years in total.

11:17 What is the present status of the fire department in Peru and how long does the city intend to support the PVAS with $4,000/month and yet allow them to be treated as a independent organization?

Those of you who support the "super committee" I hope you realize that only half of the city will be respresented by 4 people and therefore any policy recommendations by the 4 people will be FORCED UPON THE ENTIRE CITY.
Do you really thing that is true representation of and for the people? Why do we elect aldermen to represent ALL OF US.
Maybe you are TEA party supporters also driving this country into the ground!

When will we get off of the junk issues and start talking about JOBS for our city and increase revenues, to correct our needs and not talk about political wants or power?

This blog is more of a "gossip column" rather then a "issues and resolution recommendation column". When will it change ?

10:20 AM I believe that any policy recommendations made by any committee in our city government would have to be voted upon by the entire council before they are approved or disapproved.
The blog has spoke of jobs for Peru as has the city administration. Blue collar and White collar jobs to retain the youth in our area are of up most importance as is lowering this unhealthy rate of unemployment for the previously employed and the under employed. Peru is a member of the Chamber of Commerce at the tune of $13,200/year and has its own Director of Economic Development and a promotional expense account of $35,000/year.
Would you please explain what you mean by increasing revenues as Peru has a tremendous tax revenue coming from retail sales and within the last month raised the sales tax by1/2%.
