1923 Westclox Employee Handbook

I came across an interesting old handbook for Westclox employees and one paragraph caught my eye and many of you will agree we should hang it somewhere for all to see.

"We expect you to work hard, and the pay is accordingly large. Our motto is "Better Than Average Pay for Better than Average work" If you do not expect to work hard and carefully you are in the wrong place".

As the Mayor Harl attended the IML convention in Chicago this past week end and as leader of the city , I expect that the Mayor will provide a "report out of the convention" at wed city council meeting, i.e. what did he learn to benefit the city?

Anyone taking bets if this will happen ? Probably just a big beer/hard liquor drinking party.
I hope the Mayor did not walk outside drinking beer !

Brilliant comment 6:38 p.m.

Seriously though, I hope we recieve some information and insight about the conference from those who attended with sincere intentions to learn. Including Mayor Harl.
Keep in mind this was the first time Harl, Radtke and Hylla attended this conference. Others in attendance this year have attended previously anywhere from six consecutive years, (Waldorf), to ten consecutive years, (Ferrari), without ever presenting a report to the citizens of Peru who pay for these trips.
We shall see.

Correction. (Waldorf), five consecutive years.

To me, it doesn't matter how many years they attended (whether it be 1 or 20) reports should have been given. The new attendees will probably get the hint (at least we can hope). I wonder if Test and Chamlin were there and if our attendees participated in their usual treat. I wouldn't be surprised. Why should they refuse when all others have not (except Mr. Perez).

How about Potthoff? How many years?

Last year the lack of a brief from the IML was discussed and nothing positive was accomplished. This year everyone is still crying "Why not ask for a summary report during public comment". I don't care who went and for how many years a fact finding report should be given. This lack of improvement is ridiculous. The nearest thing I have ever heard to being a report was "We learned a lot and a good time was had by all". I only wonder in what proportions.

I'm sure Potthoff has gone to many conventions on the city dime. Last year he paid for his own transportation etc., the city only paid for the convention cost. Not sure what he is doing this year. Hasn't he been alderman for 20 years?

Well, once again we sent elected officials to the IML conference and once again we got no report or information that they learned anything that will help our city.
