Two Housing Markets and Two Directions

Very interesting article and who can afford to buy and the dire situation of many home owners. If you don't get the N.T. or just missed this, take a minute and read. Is our economy that bad and how will it be affecting our town. I did overhear a comment the other night that only one building permit was given this year in Peru

I do not believe the one building permit in Peru is accurate. We had Andy's Pet Shop, Rural King, the bank on Fourth Street and Rt.6 remodeled, the completely remodeled house on Fourth Street somewhat across the street from Andy's Pet Shop, one of my neighbors down the street had a new driveway put in, etc....I think that person may have been misinformed.

I guess if you would like to get technical, under our City of Peru 2012 proposed budget, under General Fund revenue it had 2011 year to date actual revenue of $43,171 for building permits.

Now it is a little more evident why the building inspector was always so busy and wanted his status changed from part time to full time. What was the cost to the city of his office - building inspector plus clerk plus expenses?
The cost of this position is what makes many cringe and doubtful when the mayor says we have cut to the bone and have nowhere else to go.
At the next council meeting Mayor take a look at the front row of faces looking at you and sharpen your pencil! Just a few ideas will drastically reduce the bottom line with a increase of production. Fact is many are puzzled that you can get one of your department superintendents to council meetings when his transportation has been seen in his own driveway more than at work for years. A time clock for all was a good idea. A idea that should not have been looked at the other way.

I think that they meant a home, not a business and one newly built not remodeled because your are right on with all you mentioned.

It seems that Fay Construction is building a home in the Marquette Manor 2 subdivision. I should have explained that initially, sorry for the misinformation.

If he has a building permit (Fay) it isn't posted anywhere. Shouldn't it be visible? Surely our building inspector is on top of these things (especially since there isn't that many homes being built).

10:05PM Willis Tower could be built across the street from the Peru Municipal Building and OUR building inspector wouldn't know it.

There is also a big hole being dug in the Sycamore Lakes development - I'm assuming that it is the foundation for a new house. It has a permit posted, but I did not stop to read it.

So, once again I guess certain contractors or individuals have to follow the rules and others do not.

When is the city going to get rid of the useless building inspector. He is not qualified. His qualifications at the time he was hired was; Neighbor to Mayor Baker.

really 5:42pm does it matter who is a neighbor of? that is just a rude no stupid comment... get a life

the comment made by 5:42 PM has validity because he brought no qualifications to the job and in all the years he has been in the position, he has not quite mastered the job.

What is rude and stupid is that this particular building inspector has been allowed to occupy the position. The only reason I mention the $28.00/hour the city pays him is to emphasize the fact the reason that he holds the position is not because Peru underpays it. It is quite a job since he is actually a Assistant Building Inspector with a clerk and pretty much has his own realm of authority. Could someone inform us to whom he does answer to and who is responsible for him. Who does he answer to, because this is the person who should evidently and eventually have to answer for him.

Tonight before the city council meeting the infrastructure committee is to meet at 6:00 PM. How can a committee meet that is associated with city business before it is approved and its membership is approved by the present city council at a councl meetin? There is a Public Works Committee consisting of two councilmen already in existence. Is the reason that the city alderman committees were reduced from three to two consisting of one new alderman and one old alderman that someone could foresee that he would create a role for himself as a continuous tie breaker, always voting to get his own way. This could be quite a ploy and change of events. Two years in which the council ruled the mayor and the next two years in which the mayor rules the council, and never the twain shall meet.

lois it still doesnt matter who he lives next to there is no rationale in your statement, you just have a beef with the former administration if you disliked him so much why didnt you move years ago or complain years ago, makes no sense to me

I did not say anything about where he lives. I said he brought no qualifications to the job and he doesn't and cannot keep up with the job even thought we issued just a couple (it seems) building permits this year.

5:56PM Years ago his inefficiencies were not as evident because their was a full time building inspector in charge of him. This particular building inspector was fully capable of covering up his mistakes or stopping them before they became evident. At that time you never saw the part time building inspector. He was more of a Jack in the Box than a real person.
