Now that a Official Announcement has been made of the name of the corporation Eakas that is going to receive money from Peru and also a grant could a complete set of minutes be made available from the Public Works Committee. Was it even legal to approve the minutes, publish them and than withdraw them from public information?

As of 2006 Eakas had employed 350 workers. According to the news tribune today (5 years later) they employ 150 workers. The reasons for the lay-offs were not indicated. With the new expansion and the $35 million cost comes the possibility of adding 25 employees to their work force. This does not seem like a feather in Peru's cap to me. On top of this, if you read the WLPO article posted above you will see that the city of Peru will be making improvements to their west end water treatment plant to accommodate Eakas's expansion. The approximate cost of $1 million will come from the 1/2% sales tax designed for road and infrastructure repairs. I wonder how long, if ever, Peru will see some good coming from this huge investment.

5:15 Good thought and comments. I think we should all do the math! It does not add up.

Doubling the size of the facility, decreasing the staff by 1/2 leads me to wonder if the process is being performed mainly by machines. If so, I don't see this as a future potential for even getting back to the original task force. And, if I understood right Peru will be using the 1/2% sales tax increase to the tune of approximately $1 million to make adjustments to our west end waste water treatment facility to accomodate Eakas's expansion. Remember, we won't start collecting that tax until January 2012 and it was earmarked mostly for roads.

THis has nothing to do with this subject, but I am not sure how to start a conversation on here. City Ordinance that you cannot hang a garage sale sign on a utility pole in Peru? You also cannot put them in the ground unless they are 5 feet from the street!! ????? The Code Compliance officer (Boro) said, when I asked where my brand new signs were that he took down, they are in the dumpster on 6th St, go get them! We have to throw them away! On my way down West st, I saw about 6 GS signs in the ground, but NOT 5 ft from any road!! WTH??? Is it another "who you know"????

I quickly checked our ordinances but didn't find the sign information, so will need to check with the city clerks office to see whether they are enforcing an existing ordinance or whether they have recently passed a new ordinance.

I believe that at the last Zoning Board Meeting the ordinance regarding signage was an issue. It appears that the ordinance in place is rather vague so the committee wanted to establish a better one except there were not enough members there to vote on the issue. Then, I believe it has to go to full council for a vote. Therefore it APPEARS that a new ordinance may be in the works but has not been officially established. I think the signs could have been kept in a safe place and given back to the people since they were obviously not aware of the ordinance.

If your signs were removed and thrown away and you were not aware that you were breaking a city ordinance either call your alderman or come to Wednesday's council meeting and present your case.

I don't understand why the old ordinance is not enforced. Why write up a new ordinance if the old one was not enforced. What is the total expense of processing a new ordinance? I know that the present City Attorney has been in the office for over 30 years which leads me to this question.
If the present city attorney wrote up the old ordinance which is considered too vague and he is going to write up a new ordinance because of this is he going to be paid again for doing the same job. Good thing he doesn't work with me at Sears they'd present him with the lifetime warranty! Again I ask what is the cost of each ordinance?
