According to WLPO, gas in the Illinois Valley is between 3.85 to 3.89 but go to Ottawa where it is 3.82 or go to Streator where it is 3.62 to 3.69 per gallon.
Included in that gas price is local and state sales tax. This area also has the highest prices in the area, why?

It is not because of the sales tax. At the price per gallon you mentioned the difference in tax is less than two cents per gallon. These are market driven forces. Or are we going to say it is the mayor and city council's fault because they are lining their pockets again?

Looking at the 4/24/13 disbursements on the city website. There is an item for IVCC class for Heidi Addis "Business Skills" for $308. Why do the taxpayers pay for her education?
2:29. Why do the taxpayers pay for a dinner $250 for outgoing aldermen? I can see paying for the outgoing aldermen's dinner, but the other aldermen and mayor and anybody else should pay for their own meal. That's an example of lining their pockets.

It is a fact that gas is tangible merchandise and taxed like any merchandise you buy.
This blog is not what you think and sure there are some things said by some people that just "talk" but we do not concentrate on lies, rumors, innuendos and conspiracy theories. It is no longer even funny how many rumors turn out to be true.
Why don't you go and help the volunteers this evening and contribute instead of complaining about your feelings being offended?
My "feelings" are not offended and I am not defensive of public officials. I do respect the difficult job they have but I find out what is going on by talking to them and working with them and asking them questions. If they err, I call them on it and when they are right I praise them. As a local business person I have considerable respect for what they have to deal with and I do not agree with all policies. But a blog of nasty people who constantly complain does nothing to improve anything in a substantial way.
Also I am not downplaying what you are doing but I give far more time that planting some flowers.
Lois why don't you go out and run for office or do some good for the community instead of providing a forum for anonymous complaints that fix nothing? Please don't criticize my point when you are in the business of full time criticism.
I will willing to bet that many people who post here have difficulty getting to their officials either because they do not answer phone calls or because they don't have enough influence to make the officials sit up and notice them. I know people who have emailed or phoned the mayor with no return call and the same with aldermen.
Your name may be enough to get them to notice you. Not everyone can run for office and please respect that and not criticize what you don't know about.
Please remember that the people who post here are mostly residents of Peru and the constituents of one of those on the council and evidently they are not getting the representation they deserve. Not everyone can fit into your shoes and your business.

I have followed the pump price and wholesale price of gas for over 20 years and found the spread, on average, to be around 55cents. Right now we are being raped because of various alibis because the wholesale price today was 2.82, which means the pump price should be around 3.40. The price will be lower when THEY (the refiners and jobbers) want it to be lower.

Why is there such a discrepancy between the cities? There are times when Cook Cty has prices close to ours and they have much higher taxes. It seems that all the prices in a 50 mile radius should be the same.
Maybe we should get rid of the city vehicles for the uneducated supers and inspector. That should save money !
A few years ago I called the Shell jobber in Ottawa to tell him the Shell price in Dixon was 20 cents lower than around here. He said he had to meet the competition. Nowadays they are very carefull to not start a price war, which would mean they all would have to meet the next guy's price. It's a conspiracy and the Illinois officials don't do anything about it. The prices in Southern Illinois are much lower. The Shell guy in Ottawa told me to call Dallas, you know the shift the blame game.
If all of you don't like high gas prices than buy or build an electric vehicle. Turn your house into the gas station and start supporting the local guys!

Can buy gas in Bloomington today, Sunday, as low as $3.71/gal. Thats $.18 per gallon less than Peru/gallon.
I always hear about people complain about the price of gas going up, yet the cost of electricity in the same time period has come down!

The citizens of Peru have paid for their own electric production and still have a huge debt for the hydro-plant, yet independent sources are competitive with Perus electric rates. Those who believe that their rates are low are being fooled.
