Selective Vision and No Will to Clean This Up
Controversy once again at the meeting, Ald.
Perez brought to light private property that is neglected with the
possibility of rodents and snakes living in the abandoned vehicles.
Sounds like nearby property owners are not getting any help so far from the
city after years of complaints. This ugly property has been in this
condition for many years and I guess the previous officials closed their
eyes to the situation. Located right across the street from what was the Peru Public Library before the current one was built.

sounds like the property at 2nd street ! never been painted in 30 years !!!! word is he paints for a living !!!
During the last administration the individual who owns the piece of property which is being discussed was asked by the Mayor when he was going to clean up his rat infested property. The property is still in like condition after four years of this administration and presently the same assistant building inspector last Wednesday proved that he still does not know how to handle the situation or he is afraid to.
After all of these years it is time to take pictures and approach the LaSalle County Health Department. Possibly you will be told that they do not care to enter city business unless the city government calls them in. From there ask them who in the chain of command is there to help because you have fear of health problems and children being harmed from rodent bites and snakes on the way home from school or playing when on the same block .
Also vacated autos, trucks, buses and campers can be used as hiding spots for vagrants and are seldom if ever inspected.
Surprising that this property has been allowed to remain in the same sloppy condition this long as the firm TEST is building next to it and investing a million dollars. Also the American Red Cross has blood draws across the street and is the site of its Peru Headquarters plus the PPD is a block away with open visibility. Doesn't the PPD have a responsibility in a unsafe hazard such as this. Maybe there should be a search of their records to find when they last approached the owner to bring the area up to code.
Who in Peru handles sanitation problems as this location is three blocks from a hospital and a half a block from a restaurant.
I drove past that property today. I believe we are speaking of the corner lot adjacent to Witczak? This has been like that for at least 12 years since I've lived here.
One of the Witczaks was a City Official and connected with the Bakers and Ankeiwitcz's . So good luck getting anything done with that. It's who you know in this city.
Keep Fighting City Hall Perez and eventually everyone will either Hate you, or Love you.
Holy blame finder Batman! You had to bring the Witczak name and previous admin. into play. Show your proof.
Why is a swimming pool construction site on Marquette Road allowed to go on for multiple years and have a broken fence around it ? It's an eyesore and a danger to the numerous renters of the apartments. Where's the Building Inspector and Aldermen Ferrari and Radke been on that case ?
Yes Yes Yes!! Finally a city official with some backbone to get that place cleaned up. We all know what will be done there- NOTHING! They will move some junk around and call that improvements.
Alderman Perez-If you are able to get that land cleared then you deserve a standing applause. I've personally complained about that crap back in 2006 and was told by Jack O'Beirne theres nothing to be done because it's shop materials. Well those same Junk materials are still there. I hope Perez gets this done!
Go Perez!!

This is the ordinance that is on the books.
Sec. 110-526. - Definitions.permanent link to this piece of content
The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this article, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:
Abandoned vehicle means:
(1)
Any motor vehicle or other vehicle in a state of disrepair rendering the vehicle incapable of being operated in its condition;
(2)
Any motor vehicle or other vehicle that has not been moved or used for seven consecutive days or more and is apparently deserted; or
(3)
Any vehicle that is unlicensed without proper registration or license plates.
Person means any person, firm, partnership, association, corporation, company, or organization of any kind.
Property means any real property within the city which is not a street or highway.
Vehicle means a machine propelled by power other than human power designed to travel along the ground by use of wheels, treads, runners, or slides and transport persons or property or pull machinery and includes, without limitation, an automobile, truck, trailer, motorcycle and tractor.
After reading this it sounds like you were not told the truth by the alderman.
True he used to run a business but that is no excuse according to this ordinance.
As I mentioned at the council last week, we were given 7 days to put plates on a car that runs or they would put a tow sticker on it. But then I believe I have reason to believe I was targeted by someone at city hall because of this blog.
Ya what about the death trap on Marquette rd
? That's against so many ordinances! But Taylor wouldn't know, he's clueless!!
he meaning the current property owner.
2:29 don't bother calling your aldermen about that fence on Marquette Road, nothing can be done about fences.
I gather by watching those city meetings that it all depends who you are on whether or not ordinances will be enforced.
That must be a Harl Home Rule Ordinance.
Can anything be done about a swimming pool which does not have a adequate safety fence surrounding it? Specifically a fence with a hole in it?
The fence that you mention is not in someones front yard only serving as a decorative purpose.

Yes it depends upon who you are in Peru or to what party you belong as to whether an ordinance is enforced or not but then it was no different in the previous administration. That is why the problem on Third street in the 1600 block still exists and has through several administations.
Skoog who ran on the Democratic ticket had no trouble with his sign, Nelson does because he is running as an independent against a party candidate. Even though both signs were put in the same location Nelson has been called on the carpet The further back that sign is the harder it will be to read which must be the point This is an important issue for Nelson to bring up because it shows he is ready to stand up for what is right.
Taylor is nothing but a small man.
7:57 PM
Small in stature or in the will to tackle the business that needs to be?
I think Frank is actually a nice guy that has to do a mean job. I bet Travis' sign issue was ordered from Harl. You notice in the video, Harl states "it's only 10 feet". No, mayor, it's all about being fair to each citizen, not a few chosen ones.
FRANK TAYLOR COULDN'T GET ANYTHING DONE IF HE HAD TOO. HE WAS BAKERS NEIGHBOR IS WHY HE GOT THE JOB IN THE FIRST PLACE. WE NEED SOMEONE LIKE BOROSTOSKI, HE GOT A LOT DONE IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS. FRANK TAYLOR IS AFRAID OF HIS OWN SHADOW. HIRE A MAN FOR THIS JOB.
Frank got one thing done. He will draw a hell of a pension from the IMRF. Being a city employee he only needed eight years to qualify and he is getting close. All the more reason to vote for as many new faces as possible. The only incumbent worthy of being re-elected is Sherry. VOTE FOR SHERRY
