Alderman Mayszak (my mistake, it was Perez) asked about the power plant demolition and the mayor responded that in addition to the original bid there would be an extra cost because the IEPA mandate on disposal of lead based paint in the amount of of 25 to 40 thousand dollars. The material will need to be taken to a special landfill.
When you have large amount of debris, how do you know what needs to go where? So I assume all the debris will need to go to a specifically chosen landfill. He did not say where this would be. Anybody out there keeping track of the expenses since this all began until it is finally and completely done.
Why does the mayors voice always sound so sarcastic when he answers either Ald. Mayszak and Ald. Perez? In my opinion.
Before we demo any more buildings we need to be aware before we take out one brick or board from the structure that due to the time in which this building was constructed, it WILL have lead based paint in it. Include that in bid specifications and don't wait until you are ready to take it down like the pool and now the power plant to announce, "surprise, we have to check more, we have to hire to check for lead based paint" I believe Chamlin is the company doing the checking. Need I say more?

Wasn't it also stated that barrels of something were taken to be tested to see if they are within acceptable limits? I believe TEST will do the testing. Don't remember what the contaminant might be.
In response to the question about what are the wayward spending issues in Peru, please crawl out from under your big rock and read the archives of this blog and you will find out more than you every needed or wanted to know.

I took only a few notes last night and it was stated by Test that they were given the "media" and it was suspected that there was radium in it. I don't know where the "media" was located and since the council never gives more information than they have to, I don't have more information and we don't have questions anymore because they get irritated.
The only question I would ask of Sherry and actually any alder person is, where are the test results from the many tons of debris that shipped out under the watchful eye of the two original contractors. Where did that end up? Or did they turn a blind eye because they claimed to sell the Power Plant to the contractor for a buck (or some low figure) and then claim absolutely no liability for any wastes from the demolition.
This really is a story that gets curioser and curioser. Time for the Trib to publish one of their patented, " Nothin to see here, Savin us lots of money, have you checked out the new apple pie recipes on page 8 " hard hitting investigative reports.
Lois you are dealing with fact. Why? it is so much more fun to gang up on Rod and kick him around than it is to openly discuss what is really happening.
Failure to know that all paint years ago was lead based, that another 25 to 40 thousand dollars would have to be tacked on to the demolition of the Peru Pool besides all other expenses such as trucking expenses and drivers.
Sure the Mayors voice always sounds sarcastic when he answers Ald. Mayazak and Ald Perez. Reason being that they don't play his game of discussing everything before the meeting. Practice makes perfect. The unknown is tough to encounter.
Why is it always Chamlin doing the checking? Is this consulting firm bonded for their mistakes and why don't they have to pay the difference. They are representing themseves as a professional consulting engineering firm and are charging as such. I understand that approximately three years ago Roger turned around at a formal city coucil meeting and snarled at a guest and stated "we don't do pools". Peru would be further ahead if he still didn't do pools.
the IEPA pronouncement of where the debris must be taken does not matter at this point. If they had said initially it needed to be treated in a different manner, the bids would have been higher and we would be paying the contractor more. Now that they decided after the fact of bidding, that it needed to be taken to a specific location, more will be added to the bill. It made no difference either way it is the same amount of money.
He sounds sarcastic because of what are the questions and where are they coming from. Like the Newstribune stated we have Bizzarro and friend pretending to represent the majority. In fact those who like a good show, giggles are the ones pulling the strings.
Videos have been posted on the city web cite for Feb. 6 and Feb. 11.
Lois, I belieeve you will pay more for two seperate bids than if everything was included all within one. Every time you sit a professional person down for a bid or consultation the clock starts running. If you don't belive me ask Roger. These guys are just like the little energizer bunny they just keep ticken, ticken, ticken ,................
Maybe they will take the debris from the power plant and use it to fill the hole in Washington Park.
But seriously - if you think this is an issue, just wait until the Westclox owners abandon the property and run away with their money and leave the City to clean up the mess.

The second cost will not go out for bids but will be tacked onto the initial cost of demolition. Nothing was stated about going out for bids to haul away the debris. Is that what you meant?
How about a blog heading about a new fire truck for the fire department. Paid for by a state bid? Wouldn't it be a grant? What's a state bid? In tonights newspaper! Fire Chief King requesting approval from council. Need a new one because of a little rust? How many miles can this rusty truck have? What's going to happen to this rusty truck? What other manufacturing fire truck companies submitted a bid proposal? E-1 fire truck only?? What kinda kickbacks could someone be getting on this deal?? What brand are the other fire trucks? Why E-1? Why not Pierce?? Could there be a conflict of interest here? A little rust! Get some body work done then. Sounds like a new fire station is the next request. After that a full-time department request. Oh, dont forget Operation Promise is now out of town.
Probably selling old truck, monies from sale into liberties account for their parties. When will the purposal come for a new command vehicle?
Where does the money from Dimmick go each month?
Wlpo had something on radio about a new fire truck for Peru. Also WLPO's website also had it. Yes, article said paid for by state bid in which fire chief king told council. No cost to taxpayers. Didn't understand state bid either. Please would someone explain what that is? A state bid. So with that being said, insurance won't go up for truck? Who pays for lettering for truck? It seems that all fire truck companies would be looked into for the possibility of a new truck. First time citizens of Peru heard about this. Isn't this public info.? Kinda sounded like it's basically a done deal. Again, Peru wants to have the best of the best to try and look better than the surrounding towns and cities. Wondering if the rusty truck going to be sold? Can someone tell us about mileage on it also? The above blog does make one wonder. And to say truck has rust, make the department look stupid. All for show.
WHATS A STATE BID IN WHICH THE FIRE TRUCK WILL BE PAID FOR? WHAT WEBSITE DO I FIND THIS? It's kinda confusing how certain request go to council with flying colors. Probably who you are that matters with very few questions asked. And to think how Operation Promise was handled by the council. Very sad. Can't wait to see program In the new town. And absolutely not attending any concerts for charity. Because all proceeds don't go to a charity, like the soda and pizza I would have purchased!
Charity concert for a cause: Has anybody wondered how the big name concerts were promoted to the business promotors for the singer? If you were the singer and were told it's a charity concert, you would be generous(I would), thinking all proceeds would go to charity. However, if you were told charity concert. And only portion of profits go to charity, would you be as generous? I wouldn't! Could it be possible that concerts are promoted as all profits go to charity, therefore, the performer cuts their rate tremendously. I find it very hard to believe that the past and present concerts with the big names would come to Peru, Illinois to perform at a discount rate for personal financial gain on someone. It would be interesting to talk to performers business Agents to hear how these concerts were and are promoted to them to come to Peru! Really, think about it.
12:58 we get it your against Liberty Fire and the City of Peru. Nobody ever said the the fire truck is free, if it is purchased it may be purchased with the State bid. Liberty Fire did volunteer to handle the financial aspects of the Operation Promise, that probably would indicate to resonable persons that a check and balance system would be in place. Since your questions were answered, I would like to give you a question. Liberty Peru Fire Department has been a valuable organization for about 150 years. Yes they train, raise money and fight fires in Peru and other towns. In the 150 years there has been only two firefighters that do not belong to Liberty. Yes 150 years. I would think that thousands of these brave, dedicated individuals have seen a value in being part of a team. In public safety it's critical to be part of a team. The attacks on the Liberty Fire are coming from the few disinfranchised. In my day if you were not part of the team in the military, police force, fire department, than we had a firing squad ready.
Please explain "state bid"
@2:00. Im on my lunch and didn't take 12:58's blog to be negative. 2:00- did you read wlpo web page yesterday? Didn't it read no cost to taxpayers regarding truck? Can't remember, can you check it out and get back to bloggers? Also 2:00, have you read blogs over the last couple years? 2:00, do you volunteer? I also noticed that for the first time I heard about new truck proposal. Only from E-One company and not other bids. @2:00, what's a state bid? Can you check that out too? @2:00 What's this new truck going to cost taxpayers? Would it be in parades with volunteers (no pay) driving truck?? Ive read that people who donate money to liberty don't really know where their donations go. Evidently some monies go for parties from reading these blogs. GTG- lunch over.
This is in reference to 2:00 blog. Oh. Liberty Fire Company must be good at keeping accurate records for the last 150 years. All records regarding donations and expenditures over the last 20 years would be interesting to see for all those people who generously put money in a donation envelope and sent it in, knowing they also pay taxes! From reading blogs I gathered donators were unaware their donations paid for steak, alcohol, etc.. True? False? Set the record straight 2:00.
The city of Peru should have gladly taken over the Liberty Fire Company's financial bookkeeping due to the fact of where donations from taxpayers monies are being spent. Why should taxpayers donate money to a fundraising organization for them to have parties? People that donated the money could have a party in their own backyards and play horseshoes. Better yet, have party at 28th street park and play pickleball, not tennis. How's that for a day at the park? But first, call city to make sure grass is mowed and not 6-10 inches long. Also, request extra garbage cans so that you can recycle your beer and soda cans. And don't get splinters from benches.
Regarding the request for a new pumper truck for the fire
Department. On the wlpo website yesterday it states that repairs were done on on the truck that the fd has now and they were costly. Then, why get a new one if it's going to cost taxpayers and the city. We do gave mutual aid that have trucks. As long as the one the department has now works than why spend spend spend. The newspaper in paper yesterday made it also seem that it was going to be a certain brand name of a truck and cost already determined. What about all the other names of trucks i see in parades? Did they put in a bid? Why didn't taxpayers get all information? It's our money being spent. How many command vehicles have been purchases in the last 5-6 years? For the fd? Fire trucks in the last 10-12?
OVER 1/2 + MILLION DOLLARS FOR A PUMPER TRUCK!!!!! Here is an idea , FIX THE RUST ON TRUCK THAT THE FD HAS NOW AND DONT SPEND MONEY FOOLISHLY. Really, how many miles on this truck? Maybe this new pumper truck requested can be used as a cooling off motive to spray water on kids and families so the can cool off this summer. Is their financing available for a splash pad??
I stand to be corrected. Not on website of wlpo. In conversation with people supposedly no cost to taxpayers. What are taxpayers cost?
Great signs for Mike Hart! Noticed several by 28th street park in taxpayers yards!
9:42 and they will be very dissappointed if the selective candidate has no plan of action. Those same fickle voters had signs for Scott Harl last time around. Next week it will Don Baker signs. Were those the same people that were critical of Mr. Baker for not raising taxes? Remember the tea party? We now have the WE Party. But they only have 2-3 members of THE WE PARTY.
11:48 What plan of action did/does the present mayor have besides silence?
11:48 I hope those neighbors put Giordano signs after Baker's. At least they are not afraid of saying they made a big mistake.
I thought this was America. Can't people support a candidate without individuals like you 9:42 and 11:48 making rude and ignorant comments? As 7:45 Feb. 19th states at least they admit they made a mistake and are looking for a solution or a compromise to correct their mistake. Let's face facts! The present mayor has NOT given us the CHANGE he promised while campaigning. It's once again time to move on as it was 4 years ago.
