St Paddy's Day Parade LaSalle

I took a little time on this beautiful day to watch the parade in LaSalle and I was not disappointed. Thank you to the Peru Fire Department for sending 2 trucks. Rodney drove the tanker and I think Tim Riordan drove the fire truck. Someone will let me know if I'm wrong. Thanks to the LP band for bringing the great music that was very much appreciated. A few floats, lots of trucks pulling flatbeds with signs and people. Lasted about 45 minutes and it was lots of fun. Thanks to the organizers of the event, "you did a GOOD job". The Illinois Valley definitely needs more of this type of community oriented event that all ages enjoyed.

It seems that Rod is always driving the fire truck in parades or functions. Does anyone else on the F.D. get a chance or are they overuled because he is an alderman? He sure is a press hound!!

Sorry to douse your flaming remark but I do know that there was a signup sheet to volunteer for this parade and these 2 firemen were the ones who signed up. Hard to take part when you don't offer your services. I personally am thankful we have 2 who offer their service without reimbursement and represented Peru well.

It's pretty sad that Police officers get paid overtime to do parade duty but the firefighters don't get anything . We (Peru) just authorized paying the city band also for playing at every city function but once again the fire dept is told to do it for free . The Ambulance does parades on duty also . City of Peru officials you suck ! fairness goes along way .

I don't know what is right or wrong on this issue but I do know that people used to want to represent the city and were proud of being a part of things like parades. Now everything is all about money.
It seems that volunteerism is not alive and well in this city. It is alive and well if you wish to spend time picking up trash and doing the work that should be done by city employees.
How many people that participated in the St Patricks Day Parade in LaSalle were paid? The H.S. Band came and walked and played without pay.
This parade took 45 minutes, can not anyone volunteer that amount of time representing your own city?

There are many many towns that still run their fire departments on a volunteer wage(Meaning the don't get paid for nothing)! Some departments only pay a couple dollars for each fire call made!!! Ask our fire chief if this is correct. He's on a gravy train in Peru and be knows it. Fireman in real hometowns don't take advantage of it's taxpayers!!! Call the surroundings towns within a 50 mile radius of Peru and see what their fireman get paid. In Peru if a firecall last 5 minutes we taxpayers pay each fireman $32. RIDICIOUS!! I'm not saying that peru's volunteer fireman shouldn't get paid for volunteering but REALLY! How
About the fireman that just sit at station and get paid?? The fire department is money hungry for it's fireman! Actually, maybe the two who drove fire trucks in the parade were the only two on the department that weren't out till early morning sat., celebrating the coming
of Patty's Day. I'm glad that most of them have firefighters license plates!' for the after midnight drive home.

I love the fire department hounds on this blog who are also illiterate! Good thing you post anonymously! You might never get a fire truck to respond to your house as much as you drag them down! Here are a few fun facts for you:
1. Anyone can get firefighter memorial license plates
2. If you have said firefighter memorial plates, you are still subject to the same laws everyone else is. (Listen to a scanner once in a while an you'll hear vehicles with those plates being pulled over AND ticketed)
3. Firemen like to go out to eat just as much as anyone else. Just because they're eating out, does not mean they're drinking adult beverages.
4. Firemen are over 21. If they choose to have an adult beverage, so what? Once you have a drink, you can no longer respond to calls for 6-8 hours.
5. So only the firemen that are on scene deserve to get paid? Give me a break. Since they don't get paid for covering the station during a call, you can wait for an extra few minutes for those money hungry firemen to respond from their homes when you get t-boned, probably by some drunk fireman on his way to the first call, to come cut you out of your car. Better hope its not on fire.
