According to the recently downloaded 2013 operating budget (on the city web site), $3,000 was spent on equipment for the newly established pickle ball program including nets, paddles and balls. Flyer is posted also on the city web site.

Pickleball Clinic Pickleball is coming to Peru in April. Introduction to the fastest growing sport in the USA. The Peru Recreation Commission will hold 3 Pickleball Clinics beginning on April 15th (dependent on court resurfacing). Pickleball Court is located at the 28th Street Park just east of Marquette Road. See the flyer for additional information and who to contact for the clinics.(from the city web site)

What is Pickle Ball? Where are these courts (I thought 28th street only had a tennis court and basketball court) and who has the equipment? How does one get access to the equipment?
Will the citizens of Peru be able to use this equipment at will and where will they find it? And, how is the recreation commission going to pass this information on to the community?
Yes Peru had a basketball court and tennis court on 28th st and now it is going to split it up three ways. Why would you share pickles in one neighborhood with a tennis court and basketball court and than put $40,000 into the updating of the tennis courts at Washington Park?
The pickle ball court is very easy to find just follow the bicycle path it is at the end of it.
Peru has no money for a splash pad because it has become too good at wasting thousands of dollars at a time instead of letting money accumulate until the children can have something. If adults wanted pickle ball they should have financed their own way. This is what the pool committee is trying to do. Is this pickle ball clan among the social strata of Peru (I understand one of the Rec Boards members has a spouse who is a big pickle fan) and many of the pool committee are just "common folk". Never thought the big machine operator would strive to rub shoulders with the suits.

Does this mean you won't show up for the Clinics?
What a shame, you will really be missed by all.
3;48 Are you trying to tell us that there will no longer be a basketball or tennis court at 28th street park? Also, no one has yet answered where citizens can get to the equipment necessary for this sport. Who is going to run the clinic and will they be on the recreation commission payroll?
Yes I'll show up for the pickles clinic' or should I correctly say that my money will since you suits can't pay your own way and need taxpayers financing. I won't miss you since self supporting flannels don't mix well with free loading suits.
Is there a caste system being created in Peru? Olive Garden private political pow wow and pickle. Would you believe that this administration had such fun with the indoor swimming pool which helped so many physically. The more things change the more they become the same, only this time it just isn't being done near as well.

12:28 PM FABULOUS!!!! I get so tired of all the negative comments on this blog. Let's see how many negative nelly's volunteer to help. The recreation board is made up of volunteers, no one is on a payroll, so if you don't like what they or any other volunteers group is doing step up and give your time and volunteer.
Get Up Off That Thing:
You've got us all excited about Pickle Ball but you still fail to mention where are the courts, the nets, the paddles, and the balls? Do we have to wait for a clinic to use the equipment paid for by the city?
There are no negative comments listed about Pickle Ball. Just questions that should be answered by someone who has the knowledge. If no one can answer these questions then just say so.
3:48pm March 29 and 7:40 PM,
you wrote:……wasting thousands of dollars at a time instead of letting money accumulate until the children can have something.
now that you “have been informed” that Peru children will be playing Pickleball in Peru Parks will you apologize for your any of your uninformed rude comments?
maybe you can volunteer or donate something to "this activity" for the children……apology first though
9:45 AM
I personally take affront at your comment. The age group of children that could use some activity in the summer are toddlers and all children up to about age 10 that are not involved in sports. That is where the splash pad came in. I don't believe that 5 year old kids will want to be playing pickle ball which will again be an organized sport as how many children can be playing at one time. And when it gets hot and the kids would like to cool off, they won't be looking for pickle ball.
1:44 You're absolutely wrong. The rec and park director is on the payroll.
Once again, how are citizens of Peru going to get access to this Pickle Ball equipment? Now you're talking about it being an activity for the children of Peru. How are they going to get to 28th street park to play?
Lois………..”you” want to explain 3:48comments to all your readers “You” know what she/he meant with that comment? “You” have now gone to a new level when you start explaining what 3:48 meant by his comments. We all should fear the day “you” start explaining our comments Let 3:48 answer unless “YOU ARE” 3:48 march 29

1:55 Your sarcasm and smart comments are becoming a little annoying. I surely hope you are not a rec commission member because if you are you're making them look bad. You ask for volunteers yet refuse to tell us where this equipment is, how we can get it, and where these courts are that you keep talking about. Come on now! Get up offa that thing and answer the questions!
Anon 4:58 After asking several times in comments to the blog and only receiving a promotional campaign for pickle ball in answer it appears that the personnel responsible for this equipment do not want to answer the question.
I would hope that those who do not answer these questions are not the same unelected individuals who the city administration hands $75,000 per year to do whatever they want with it.
If this equipment is being or has been used who has been using it and is it being presently stored at someones home? If this is true it is the funding of city equipment for private use by the taxpayers. (You Tube: Attorney General, State of Illinois)
8:47PM
You seem to throw around a lot of accusations and innuendo. How about instead of asking anon bloggers for information, you pick up your phone and contact your alderman, the Rec Director, or City Hall if you really want to know where the pickle ball equipment is being stored. If you don't, it seems to me, you just want to stir the pot and hurl accusations at these "unelected officials".
9:51AM
The aldermen don't know and I can say with certainty the Mayor does not and I don't have the name and phone number of the Rec Director. The answers sought should have been given by those who are writing in and seem to be promoting the sport but for some reason will not answer the questions. It's the public that wants to know.
9:51 There have been no accusations hurled at those unelected officials. Just questions that no one seems to want to answer for some unknown reason. It's as simple as that. Why do we have to wait until April 15th for the lst clinic?
Anon 9:55 Anon 8:47 pm did not use the term "unelected officials" - YOU DID. Now who do you want to incorrectly accuse of what next? Maybe your problem is that you think you are an "unelected official" anyhow Happy April Fools Day, PICKLE.
A note to the volunteers, committee members, mayor and alderman, it has to be a challenge to see a well intentioned program for Peru residents being associated with other subjects and projects that have absolutely nothing in common with a this project.
If I simply read that the volunteers of this project are introducing the sport of Pickleball for $3,000 as Lois stated, some people find a way to associate that with discrimination, wasting money, class warfare? What disappoints me is my fellow residents negativism and hateful comments toward volunteers trying to promote a sport my friends and I really enjoy.
I played Pickleball this morning and was looking forward to playing this spring in Peru when I return to town. It is such a fun sport for all ages and when I heard Peru was starting a program I was very excited. Can we please not chase away future volunteers from trying to bring new activities to Peru for such small monetary investment?????
I think the pickleball stuff in in some residents house next to the park.
10:41Please specify the hateful comments you are referring to. I've seen questions asked but still no answers given. I'm glad you got to play Pickle Ball and enjoyed it. Maybe others would enjoy it too if they had access to the equipment as you obviously did. The only discrimination that I can see being made is denying the general public access to the equipment that a select group of citizens has in their possession. This sport sounds like it could be fun and hopefully eventually this whole mess will be cleared up and all citizens can share in the fun.
The pickle ball equipment belongs being stored in a city facility if it was paid for with citizens money. Any and all city officials and citizens who if in fact have used this equipment privately or allowed it to be used without the consent of leaving all Peru citizens the use of the equipment are mishandling city funds. This and many other wasteful and mistrustful forms of government spending must be challenged and stopped. When do the rest of us get a chance at this pickle ball equipment? Possibly when the selected get tired of it and the newness wears off the equipment. It appears that some people are so distant from reality that they do realize what they appear as to others because they will not spend their own money to purchase their own private pickle ball equipment and expect the city to purchase it for them, which it has all of the appearances that the city has done exactly that.
Pickle Ball and its' equipment seems to have already disappeared. Are the clinics still a go? How will the public become aware of this activity when it gets off the ground?
