Divergence: White-collar jobs up, manufacturing jobs disappearing in Illinois

Divergence: White-collar jobs up, manufacturing jobs disappearing in Illinois

What is a call center such as Office Max be considered white or blue collar? For lack of knowledge in today's business world I find it difficult separating the two collars. It is wise to be aware of the statics of white and blue collar workers but I believe a understanding of what jobs can be exported and which jobs cannot is a key to ones future.

If you sit at a desk, you are white collar.

Off topic here, but whoa! Did you see the rec board is cancelling the fireworks and subsequent contracts? Now what are we going to do?

@2:53 PM
go to Hennepin, Utica, Sreator, Ottawa and see better ones. Glad to see them finally come to a end. A nationality that was not in this country when reasons for the 4th to be celebrated are the worst for cherry bombs, firecrackers etc. and no one stops them from illegally shooting them off for all of July.No respect for military men with PTSD and dogs who hide because of them. The 5th of May should be banned.

2:53 I think its high tide, sorry I mean high time they find a different spot for the fireworks.

2:53 - I agree. Looks like it will be flooded out again this year anyway. We should join forces with LaSalle. Have it at their nice new park.

I'm trying to confirm your story about Peru fireworks being cancelled indefinitely. Where did you get that information?

Anonymous said...

Why are the cancelling the fireworks? What about the businesses on Water Street that look forward to that income? Aren't bouncy houses already ordered for that night? What the heck happened?

speaking of businesses on Water Street. Still waiting for the grommet burger joint in the ESDA building. How long has it been now and does anyone have the over and under on when the city will repurchase that rat trap?

Do they pass the hat at Peru fireworks or is it the Peru normal fundraiser of gambling like a 50-50 drawing? Would charging set fees to attend be a better way of paying for the fireworks, such as a $50 for pick ups, $25 for cars, $5 for each individual person and $75 for each motor home, RV and private boat. People pay $100/patio table and more at private businesses to see the fireworks why doesn't so much of this $100 get donated to the city.
For several years it has been a constant complaint that the
fireworks are a huge drunk but the reason has never been put forward now it has been communicated that the CSO is charging $2/beer. No wonder there is a excessive amount of drinking, at a event such as the Peru fireworks $2/beer is promoting excessive drinking. The Peru fireworks should be renamed Peru's Happy Hour. What is being done with the CSO's profits.
If the fireworks are no more than a public drunk they definitely should be self supporting rather than taxpayers funding them.

The businesses on Water Street pay a fee to the CSO.

The CSO of Peru, or as it is also known, (Cronies Scamming Off of Peru) fills their coffers every summer at the expense of the hundreds of sloppy drunks who migrate under the Peru Big Top on Water Street. The CSO is a front for Peru's citizen political wing with membership consisting of mostly slack-jawed Peru men best described as Meat-Heads, aka "dead from the neck up" who are programmed to protect and promote select Peru businesses and politicians. They are a fraternal organization that provides its members hampered by limited social skills and abilities a place to feel they belong. In return the members are required to perform certain duties to benefit other members including campaigning during local elections for insider candidates like Waldorf and others.

Why would a private business have to pay a fee to the CSO? Is this group that powerful? And by the way, we need to remember the true reason for the 4th of July, our INDEPENDENCE and FREEDOM. If the Rec Board is in charge of this event, they need to start rethinking the location. Be proactive and move the event somewhere else, then the worry of flooding every year is over. Water Street is dangerous enough without flooding for God's sake, move it. Maybe everyone should attend the rec meeting tomorrow night to voice their opinion, after all it is our money being spent we should have a say. Whether they listen is another story!

ha ha, typo.. grommet burger should be gourmet burger.

The CSO problem will take care of itself. Average age is about 70 and they don't let new people in. In five years or so, most will be confined to the old pensioners home.

I heard that the tax bill has not been paid on the old ESDA building.

Anonymous said...

If 12:44 is correct, that's the first step in the process of the city getting that old ESDA building back.

Just fishing for ideas. How much area is needed to set the fireworks off and be visible to all. With the number of parking lots in the area of downtown Peru and including 4th street sidewalks and road could the fireworks be set off south of Art Giese's Tavern in that parking lot and the ground displays shown west of City Hall. With some professional advise this may be a win win for all. Everyone sitting at their homes would also have a ideal view.

4:21, yea if they join up with Lasalle, you will still complain because they also are having a beer tent there during their celebration just as everyplace with fireworks do

Anonymous said...

2:34, not complaining about the beer tent. Just making and observation that in Peru the reason for the fireworks is selling beer. Not the other way around.

You sound very bitter about the CSO. I am not a member but have been asked many times. I happen to be involved with other organizations to help promote the city and the community. You have to draw the line somewhere. My guess is that you sit at home on you a.. and complain that it is too hot too cold. You are an arm chair citizen who doesn't have the drive to help others.
I think the CSO would let you join as long as you worked and didn't complained all day.
