Peru Council Meeting September 9 Part II Vote on TEST Contract

It appears that  City Hall does not wish you to see this council meeting as it is over a week and still it has not appeared on the city web site. This was done by a private party who attended the meeting last week.

There are so many comments I could make about Sap's speech. Why is it he feels he needs to be so defensive? How insulting is it to union workers that he assumes the guys from Lambrect only ate at McDonalds? Why does he trust the people who make bottled water? Does he know them? He was better when he kept quiet.

WHAT A BUNCH OF LOOSERS!!! They should have known the rules about having to bid on things OVER 20,000. It still smells to high heaven. Throw out everyone.

Please! Someone explain to me how this individual can video this meeting and post it on u-tube before the city can post it on their own web=site. The city has all the equipment which they purchased with your tax dollar for the purpose of allowing those who can't make it to the meetings to learn what their government is doing. I personally think the city once again went with a local business and a friend but that that friend did not fulfill their promise and give the city what they needed. Obviously the equipment is either a piece of junk or someone is just picking and choosing which videos they want the public to see. Another waste of mine and your tax dollar.

Unbelievable! A bunch of cocky attitudes. Notice all the bottled water that people are drinking? From the city. Do they offer bottled water to all those who attend meetings? Taxpayers. The city point blank only wants the citizens to see and hear what they want them to.

Yep. That also is the reason for an abundance of closed sessions. Everybody up there and some at the side tables need to go. Re: 10:47.

Just remember, we are the fools and morons that reelected and elected these clowns. Even if we didn't vote for them we didn't do our jobs by attending council meetings before to experience their cocky and ignorant attitudes. We didn't get together to back one candidate to beat Hurl. We didn't convince enough of our friends and family to get out and vote to fix this. We are all to blame. And lastly come next election we all won't remember all this! Shame on us ALL!

11:39 am, You are correct. We are to blame and shame on us for electing people like Harl, Sapienza, Waldorf, Radtke, Potthoff, Ferrari, Lukosus, and Mueller. One of the reasons Waldorf brought the issue forward so long before the end of the contract was to allow that much more time for the public to forget the issue before the next aldermanic election in April 2014 when he will be seeking re-election. You have to understand that nothing is more important to these guys then getting re-elected. "Nothing".
People like Harl and Waldorf have nothing of substance to offer as elected officials and they are very much aware of their own shortcomings. They know they will never achieve great things while in office becuase they lack all the essential characteristics of good leadership. So what do they do? They just fake it. They pretend they are fulfilling their oaths of office. They do as Chamlin or TEST instructs them and they follow a prepared script on meeting nights just like Sapienza did last week. There is no original thought. There are no progressive ideas to improve our city. Every decision is based on maintaing the status quo. But the most important thing to these phonys is to stay in office at all costs. Perfect example of that was Ferrari last Monday night. He was scared to death of the TEST issue and it was written all over his face. He did not utter a word. He just wanted it over with as fast as possible. Why? Because he was going to vote for it all along but he did not want to be noticed while doing so. A cowardly attitude that was used by Mueller and Lukosus as well. They do what they are told but they do it quietly hoping not too many of us will notice their ethical shortcomings. They are a sorry excuse for public officials indeed. All that you and I can do is try to keep the fires of discontent burning and channel the outrage and disgust that we feel for these pretenders all the way through to the next election.
If you want to make these people feel the pain and hurt that they so richly deserve then you must beat them at the polls. Boot their sorry asses out of office and you will take away the only thing they really care about, "themselves". And the free meals and beverages of course.

I think I am starting to challenge the quality of Connecting Points equipment and services if this video recording process is always failing. I think it is time to ask for a refund.
Hopefully, we don't make the same mistake and by faulty products and poor service like this in the future.

I felt as though Alderman Sapienza was at the front of a class room lecturing children. In my opinion he should have remained quiet and let the senior aldermen take the heat. He certainly did not come across as a alderman of the people.

Can we blame the city for not posting that meeting? What an embarrassment. Aldermen Sapeienza and the other goof talking about city contracts are incompetent. Could Sapeienza please explain how the Test owner helped put out the Westclox fire? Is Test a first responder? Why was he allowed to fight the Westclox fire? What a joke! Sapeienza is a joke!

Anonymous said...

Maybe he's on a mutual aid department that we are unaware of. Remember that there was emphasis on saving Test with that fire? Does my memory serve me correct, or do i have a memory problem. And also, on the scanner the night of that fire(in the beginning) someone asked over the scanner if there was a staging officer and a reply came back as no. Then days later someone said that they have traiining for this type of fire. Wouldn't the first protocol be to have a staging officer and area? ?????????????????

Could we please stick to criticizing decisions or actions and stop with the name calling and mean comments? Some of these people really do want to do what is best, even if you don't agree with everything. NEVER on here is there a positive comment and our city does not function differently than most.

You can always tell the people who have never lived anywhere else as they always say things like "only in Peru..."

No, not only in Peru. Call your aldermen. Express your opinion. They vote. Express you agreement or disagreement with the vote. And then you vote in the next election.

That's how it works. The ballot box does the best talking.

WHAT A STAGED PERFORMANCE!! CONGRADULATIONS ALDERMAN SAPIENZA!! I wonder when the awards will be given out? Peru is a thing of the past with this administration. At what date is Coca-Cola moving out? There will be another building for the future hopeful "BIG" politician (our mayor)to re-fill. I hope he never makes it to Springfield, there are enough mistakes down there already.

5:05 are you serious? call your alderman? with the exception of a few, i have never seen so much arrogance and lack of leadership/managerial skills in one room. yes. positions have changed significantly in the last few years and will continue to do so until we get it right. maybe if some of these aldrman and mayor spent more time trying to manage a city vs building their idiotic alliances, we might see progress. Unfortunately, all the youth leave this area and we have nobody to step in. same old. same old.

5:05 People did call their aldermen with regards to this issue and alderman Sapienza"s lecture was one of the results. Some of the other aldermen "just acknowledged" the fact that they too received phone calls and e-mails. Alderman Perez was the only one who listened and respected his constituents input whether he agreed with them or not.

To prove these officials are deaf and out of touch all we have to do is listen. That meeting wasn't about the integrity or performance by the contractor, it was to shop around to see what's out there. Alderman Perez said it best the last minute of that debate, then the last alderman to speak after him defended the contractor again.
I've owned my same Ford F250 since 1998 because it served me well I'm not going to run out to the Ford dealer and buy the first blue Ford F250 I see because the one I've driven for the past 15 years was great! I'm going to shop other models, check prices, and test drive. If I don't find one as satisfactory as the ford 250 then I'll pay the extra to have satisfaction.
The point is, it's irresponsible not to shop. And very irresponsible not to shop if you're spending our tax dollars.

Anon 9:21 Great comment. Your example takes this bidding issue to the simplist and precise termnology. But! The problem is deeper than this.
In all actuallity the problem is that the city council and administration understood what the large majority wanted but they intentionally avoided the issue to obtain their own wants.
Your city fathers are more intent on representing themselves than you and me.

How was the council meeting tonight?

Anonymous said...

Very quiet and not well attended. Why should anybody attend when their voice won't be heard anyway?

The last 2 council meeting vidoes seem to have once again been eaten up by the equipment we purchased from Connecting Point (or so we're told), once again there was a need for a closed session that apparently wasn't too important because it was not listed on the agenda, and there was a lengthy discussion as to why we can't close our Smoke Shop even though Spring Valley closed theirs.

How many aldermen did you hear complain about the video equipment ? That in itself gives you the answer, they don't care that we evidently purchased defective equipment or don't care that they are spending you money for nothing.
In fact, it is possible that orders have been put out not to put this on the city web site, makes them look bad.
Our government seems to have become self serving, and not serving the people of Peru. This has happened way to many times for it to be the equipment but if it is how stupid are we not to bring it up for discussion and decide what we are going to do about it.

This sure makes Connecting Point look bad. I think it's time to contact Comcast and see if their equipment works properly and reliably. No more Connecting Point!

Lois, I have a question for anyone out there. Did anyone check and see what the new company that got the Test contract at the old landfill is actually costing us? Because I understand that it costs the city more than what Test's bid was, because they said there were different tests that the epa wanted that were not in the bid and that it would cost the city more and Test's bid said any testing that was needed they would do there. If thats the case (and Im just playing devils advocate here) maybe we don't know everything and we are better off staying with Test the company we know. Maybe you could foia that info Lois or Mike and let us all know what you find as I can't get to meetings anymore.

How long has the city owned its present video equipment and does it still have time left in its warranty? Whether it is a active warranty or not Connecting Point should be so embarrassed that it would replace the defective equipment free of charge, UNLESS it is not defective equipment at fault.
The rate of failure of the equipment jumps off the chart every time a council meeting has content that city officials have reason not to want to be seen. Would you call this good luck, bad luck or well timed breakdowns?
Surely it is not short or long range planning!

The sodium is a result of the treatment process. I might be wrong since it has been awhile since I was at these plants, but I thought Peru and Oglesby used a lime softening process to soften the water and remove radium. This adds sodium to the finished product. Ottawa uses a different process that adds no sodium, and LaSalle has no radium in their water and does not soften the water so no sodium is added in their process. There's some info in this fact sheet at the end http://www.idph.state.il.us/envhealth/factsheets/radium.htm
