Wonder what the traveler really thought about his trip, sometimes it takes an outsider to show what many of keep trying to get across to those who rule.

After last night, I've come to the realization that there is only one thing left to do that can save Peru. Peru is addicted to taxes. The only way to cure this addiction is to stop feeding the habit. For sure, everyone needs to vote no on this sham of a referendum. But, that is not all. Everyone needs to stop buying anything in Peru. No gas, no groceries, no shirts, no shoes. Stop buying everything. After three months when the sales tax revenue takes a dump, they will notice.
Make your purchases in LaSalle and Ottawa or on-line. On line purchases, for the most part, are not taxed by the seller. Sure, you are supposed to pay the sales tax, but there is no way to track this. Just check the "no" box on your tax form and carry on.
By cutting off the funds, the city will see who they actually work for. Hopefully this will only take three months so the stores don't move away. But if they do, who cares. It is not a long drive from Ottawa or even Joliet or Naperville.

Thie place is more like the Land that Time Forgot.

You could write the exact same article today. Except there are more boarded up buildings and no Long John Silvers.

And the evil thug he writes about is probably now on the Peru Council.

7:54 Why do you call this a crappy article. I found it interesting, informative, and well written. Good reading material. I think it's a shame that La Salle and Peru can't seem to work together. It would save each the tax payers money,
promote growth, and stop this childish behavior of which town is "the leader of the valley".

6:30 that's the most narrow minded thing to do is stop buying in Peru all that does is punish the little guy trying to make a small bussiness go in Peru. We need to elect people that do more than smooth talk B.S. to us, maybe vote for the one that says the things that have to be said and that maybe we dont want to hear but need to hear and not the one who just says how big of a crook the other person was, we need a straight talker and not somebody that just wants to get their picture in the news and then not follow through with what they started.

Well said 12:09. I just want to laugh at people like 6:30 talking about low taxes.

WE HAVE low taxes in Peru. You can say whatever you want but do an actual comparison. We have one of the lowest real estate tax rates and actualkly our sales tax rate is less then Joliet or Naperville. Are you kidding me??

Stop shopping in Peru, seriously. 6:30 you also fail to understand that Peru is a huge amount of the economic lifeblood in the Illinois Valley and many people work here.

The point of boycotting Peru shopping is to force the Mayor and Council to listen to the people. They can't spend what they don't have. And watch out for those so called low property taxes. One you let the pool camel in the tent, watch them shoot up for every excuse. I say - cut them off. They cant spend it if they don't have it. That is the only way anyone will see real change.

And then you will shut down every local business in the process. Pick a new battle. This "boycotting" of local businesses and a good local municipality is complete foolishness.
