Sczcpaniak sounds like a bully. When he says they'll be playing at 28th St next year like its a done deal, it makes him sound foolish. Ferrari and Ankiewicz laughing when it is suggested they play during the day is a disgrace. I'm so hoping Mr. Sapienza beats Ankiewicz. I believe he will act like a gentleman and be respectful to people unlike Ankiewicz who yells and laughs at them.

If Mr. Sczcpaniak heard loud music and kids swimming at the corner house why didn't HE report it? It also appears (from listening to this video) that alderman Ankiewicz apparently stretched the truth quite often because he constantly had to correct himself.

Who is in charge of Peru? Does anyone in the direct line of this cities management know why governments are established? This pickle ball issue has gone on for so long a time frame without the mayor stepping in to override the inefficient committee chairman that they both should be tossed out of office for no other reason than inability to utilize fair, efficient judgement.
Would someone inform the majority of this group the exact reasons they were elected because it is beyond time to start doing it!

Fair and efficient judgement is not in their vocabulary 2:19 and they also refuse to acknowledge the fact that they do indeed work for us. The tax dollars we pay, pay them to attend meetings and make sound decisions for all, not just for a certain group that they are trying to keep happy at the expense of others. But the one thing we can all look forward to is the election in the spring. Then, (even though we do not know) we will have a voice.

Peru Recreation Commission members and time on the Board.

Janice Grabowski since 7/30/99
Ron Kelsey since 1/15/99
Bryan Hartman since3/30/09
Tom Stuart since 2/19/96 (resignation submitted)
Ray Zborowski since 1996 (?)
John Deisbeck 7/06/09
Larry Weide is a recent appointee of Mayor Harl's.

Rounding the years: 13, 13, 3, 16, 16, 3, without including the recent appointee for a total of 64 years divided by 6 comes a average of 10.67 years per members time on the board. In round figures 11 years per member when the ordinance reads that the Rec. Com. Member is to serve for five years and be replaced. Two members of this board served 16 years which is 3x's + 1 more than the ordinance calls for and two have served 13 years which is 2x's + 3 years longer than what the ordinance states as number of years allowed
Who is responsible for not following the ordinance in this specific blunder. I use the word specific because there are so many similar major blunders that have not been confronted by those elected to do so.

Linda said...

Does anyone know who was president of the rec board before Hartman took over? Can't seem to find that information.

Anonymous said...

I argued that ordinance some time ago and was told that I was misinterpreting it. I was told that it reads "serve 5 years unless the major doesn't appoint a replacement".

Anonymous said...

you people need to know that these VOLUNTEERS were asked to be on the rec board as no one else would be on it. Jump in and take over as I think some of them would be glad to give up their years of service

Anonymous said...

If the major can read figures don't you think it is past due for him to make necessary replacements. There is no need in blaming the board for its apparent weaknesses but there is a need of putting the responsibility on those who are responsible for its present structure. For a board president to refuse to answer involved parties meeting after meeting is reason for replacement. He is not scaring anyone and only showing immaturity when he starts shouting that he does not have to answer people and when no action is taken by those he represents they are as much to blame as he is and should be replaced also. Presently there is a move to accommodate all of the above.

The mayor never steps in to fix anything unless its for one if his union cronies. Its like he just sits back and is watching our town get worse and worse.

Obviously the pickleball advocates are going to refer to the expense involved in returning the court for tennis. May I remind you the program was instituted on a test basis. Peru erected a tower north of town on a test basis to gauge the feasability of a wind turbine. That test FAILED, albeit eexpenses were incurred to run the test.
The test of pickleball has failed as a neighborhood activity. Move it out of the neighborhoods, and it passes muster. What could be simpler or more logical ?

7:24 where did you get your information? someone told you an untruth!

Anonymous said...

Anon 7:24 Get serious! The last time there was one opening on the Rec Bd. three (3) people applied for it.
This board has made so many questionable decisions ethical and legal, in regards to the fireworks and pickle ball that it is surprising anyone would presently want to become involved with it.
A efficient manager would ask all board members to resign and than ask for applications from all interested, reduce the board to five and start all over.
The existing board is forcing home owners of 28th st. to take this case to court. When everything is revealed the homeowners will win and the city representatives will again cost the taxpayers monies for attorneys and legal justifications.

Anonymous said...

9:43 You are correct, the legal fees will end up being more than the cost of a new court.

I been wanting to say this for years! There is this white dump looking building that I believe is a deli and has been downtown for years! WHY HASN'T THE OWNER OF IT BEAUTIFY IT??? It sticks out like a infected zit! Just saying the truth! I know this wasn't the section to put this blog.

Alderman A keeps insisting that any other park besides 28th St. is not a venue because of the type of people that play pickle ball. He also makes a comment in the video that this issue should have been addressed before it was done, but then in the next breath says that they absolutely need four courts. Just by watching these videos, I can see why the neighbors involved are so upset and would not be surprised if legal action was taken. I believe right now that is their only option, unless the mayor or the other aldermen step in and resolve this mess. This is making the city look bad.

I just listened to this video again and it amazes me how Bryan Hartman who is the president of the Rec Board refuses to answer a question by simply cutting it off. This is not the first time, I have seen this type of non cooperative behavior on his part. Whenever he decides that he cannot answer the question, he does this. With that in mind, how can this Rec Board ever hope to have an intelligent conversation with either the neighbors or any other interested party including the aldermen.

Upon further reviewing the video of this Public Property meeting and the previous meeting (10/22) I noted several statements that need clarifying. One is when Mr. Sczcepaniak questions the noise coming from a house on the corner of 28th street park. I think he should be made aware that that is the assistant police chief's home so if he would like to file a complaint he may do so. Also another lady present accused Jill of complaining about soccer at a council meeting. That lady should be made aware that she has never been to a council meeting and has no clue as to what she is saying. The third comment I would like to address to alderman Ankiewicz when he refers to the fact that pickleball should be played in a park because parks are for kids. How many kids have been at these meetings fighting for pickleball Mr. A.? Just some food for thought!

The video recording of the Nov. 5th city council meeting is now available on the city web-site. Please pay special attention to alderman Perez's comments regarding the illegal initiation of pickle ball and alderman Radke's negative response.(starting time 17:09 to 23:11)

Anonymous said...

Mr. Radke: How did you expect the 28th street neighbors to override the decision by the rec commission when you, the city council, had no authority to do so? That's why the rec board ordinance was revised. And, according to the OMA the rec board could not legally vote on the pickle ball initiation nor the court change because it was not listed on their agendas. Therefore no one knew what they were doing and had no reason to attend their meetings.

Bravo. You just stated the heart of the case. The rest of the argument consists of relevant details, but the source of all damages was that one crucial illegal act.
In every other case I have studied so far, none were instituted in this way.

5:03 I just finished watching the video from Monday nights meeting and it appears Alderman A has crawled into Alderman's R body as they are now finishing each others sentences. I thought Alderman R was a free and independent thinker, but was I wrong. He fooled me!

Just watched the council meeting video regarding Pickleball. Alderman Radtke seemed to defend the way Pickleball was illegally voted on by saying people had plenty of time during a May meeting to voice up. Alderman Radtke didn't seem to care about the citizens not having the opportunity to attend the meeting, or meetings in January when they voted to start the program. It seemed clear to me this council cares less about the effected citizens, or the illegal vote. If what Alderman Perez is saying is factual, then that sport should be eliminated from that location.
Alderman Radtke said citizens had plenty of time? My question is-How? If the board voted and approved it,and ordered the equipment in January nothing else would've mattered after that because it was a done deal.
Alderman Radtke needs to understand that a city board is a governmental committee regardless if it's made up of volunteers. If they did wrong then Alderman Radtke should be defending the citizens and not government. Its the citizens he's to represent not the powers within. I give credit to Alderman Perez for publically calling out a governmental entity for playing dirty politics. members on that board have served for many years, for them not to know how to make an agenda or the laws of the state then I could only imagine all of the other illegal activities they have pulled off through the years. Shame on them and any alderman or mayor who defends them.
The people need more represenitives like Perez and Mayzak.

Alderman R makes this statement.."anyone sitting at this table at that time could have changed the decision that had been made by the park board ,they chose not to. Were you aware at that time that the OMA had been violated not once but twice? Do you remember that the ambassador told you at the meeting that this was a portable game, but the month before they voted to make it permanent? I believe the neighbors were told that the council could not over ride the decision of the park board, but yet you state that anyone sitting up here could. I am assuming that you are referring to the aldermen when you state that anyone at this table could have changed the decision. So which is it? You cannot have it both ways.

Mr. Quick, there was too much money spent in the first place for a trial pickle ball court. It should have been tried with minimal money spent and then in a few years if it proved successful spend the money. But this is typical of Peru government.

There is strong evidence that the rec. bd. and the council cut class the day it was taught that you do homework and than take the test not vice versa. Lets blame a hot euchre game at RJ's.
